  • Something I hate is when a book is being made into a film, or even when a scriptwriter hands the script to the director. The author/writer has in their head what they see and what they think the world and the characters should look like but the director will probably change that completely to their own adaptation. How ever awesome the Lord of the Rings films were, they sucked compared to the books. My opinion.

  • It's all his fault Precious! Yess! Yess! That Peter Jackson should be cut to pieces and fed to the orcses! Since he made the movie about The Precious all these fantastic scribblers are coming out of the Fangorn woodwork.

  • This really helped me get on track!

    Cheers

  • Good tips! Great movie (dark knight) and ...you sorta sounds a bit like the joker XD

  • Whats the name of his book

  • Christopher Paolini, though he has borrowed idea's from Tolkien, portrays magic brilliantly, as TelecasterLORD73 has said. His focus on character development is also admirable. The writing of Tolkien, however, is unmatched. No one, and I mean it, NO one has ever written as good as that guy.

  • When Eragon used magic to escape the prison he had to wait days without eating or drinking because they were drugged. He couldn't contact Saphira, his dragon, and he couldn't use magic with the drugs, but in the end, he had only managed to use a very little burst of magic to escape, only to have Murtagh rush in minute later, complaining about him ruining Saphira and his plan to rescue him.

  • @Alverez73726 I thank you immensely for this advice, I have been working on my first book for over three years and a background history for the story for a lot longer, I am fifteen now abs I have finished my first book, and I am on the second, the first book was worth 190 pages in an actual book (cut down of course) about 119 pages of A4 paper, and with 44591 words! When I finished I could not believe it.

  • Great Video! You really gave good advice, keep it up! I wish you luck with your book! I'm working on a trilogy right now.

  • I've maxed out my volume & can barely hear you, please turn your own volume up in the next vid.

  • @typohear You may have heard the expression, "Show, don't tell." If you haven't yet, you probably will. Try seeing what details you can reveal about the plot without any dialogue whatsoever... for instance, if a character is upset, does he simply say it? Or can I tell by the way he's acting or looks?

  • Btw, my story is called, "Abandoned Memories", and i started making it when i was 15. Also, I have to say one thing about dialogue. The plot of my story is actually revealed through the dialogue. I was wondering if this was a good thing or a bad thing. Thx!

  • Hey man. I love your advice! It's very helpful, and many of the crucial elements that you said needed to be in a story were present in mine. For example, I agree that magic shouldn't be present in every chapter, because it would end up seeming too predictable. I will subscribe, and I would love to check out your story. In return tho, I was wondering if you would look at mine as well. My story is about 62 pages long so far and 8 chapters, so it shouldn't be that long of a read. Thx!

  • When you open a book does there have to be a battle going on? Because In my novel I start talking about the main charecter, setting, and plot.

    Got any advice?

  • @jax1616g haha lol no there doesn't have to be a battle. but don't bore the reader with unecessary dialogue unless it's important and furthers the story.

  • @alvarez73726 Oh and sorry to bother you agian but can a climax be excepable in the beganing?

  • @jax1616g sure, a climax can be a great way to start off a book. my book opens with an invasion.

  • @alvarez73726 Thanks it's helpful to get advice from a pro, I'll just keep making my novel origanal with somthing that has never been said before.

  • I've been working on my novel and I found the best freaken name for my main charecter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's such an awsome name that I can't share it with anyone because they could steal it. :)

  • To me writing a book is a peice of cake. I am in the begining and as i wrote the book formed. The nsmes is all i find hard. I want a unique name, different from the others. And im only 11!

  • Hi, im trying to write a novel wich takes place in an asian-like setting.

Can you give me some advice.

  • @villi1997 Tell me a little bit more about the setting. Its hard trying to give advice if i don't know more.

    -Mark

  • @alvarez73726 Well, it's kinda like the show Avatar the last airbender, where people can control elements, except it has more elements than water, earth, air and fire. It has like Ice, Darkness, Light etc.

And each tribe has a god.

  • @villi1997 Hmmm. If you are going to do that, i'd suggest you make the most original story you can, if not, your story might not ever get published because of certain similarities. Try and invent a magic system that is plausible. The only other advice I can give is to make sure you don't take from the story of The Last Airbender. Darkness isn't an element, its actually just the absence of light. But I do sicerely hope your novel becomes a success.

  • @alvarez73726 im changing my mind... My novel is going to be a mixture of Pokémon, Megas XLR, and mabey some elements of generator rex

  • If I may, a climax is, by definition, the point at which all plot and character arcs meet to force the resolution of all conflict, followed swiftly by what is called the "denoument," or the resolution of the story. Generally you will have high and low points prior to "the climax", but none of them function in the same manner as the main climax. hope that helped.

  • this was really helpful :)

  • I had to turn up my sound to hear you, but then I played something else afterward. I think I went deaf for a second there. Great tips though, but ... why is it so dark?

  • the sound is so low

  • thankyou for these tips, you have given good advice

im 16 ish :-) hoping to start writing soon (if i get time with all my exams lol)

    God bless :-)

  • These are actually good tips. I'm amazed. Bad video, good advice...LOL

  • Thanks for the tips!

  • It is actually extremely important for the antagonist to have a backstory (and a good one). It puts some thrill into the novel. Good vid ^^

  • @AllThatAwakens Thanks a bunch!

  • @1b74 yer shut the up. I bet your crap a that mike is better than you are

  • @1b74 ya now i know not to read your books cus i know ur a jackass. way to sell yourself

  • All the authors I know say to NEVER write like a movie. It kills the inside emotion, and just shows from the outside.

  • what exactly, do you mean when you say the character(s) need to have more BACKGROUND? or BACKDROP?

  • @yetidude13 I mean there past. Look at Aragorn from lotr for example.

  • Where r u at? Its soooooooooooo dark...

  • @Anayden lol, in my room.

  • your giving advice about how to write a book when your not even a published author yet. bit of a joke that come back when you become published and sell copies.

  • no i got more expirence as i am already a published author. And it was a friend who showed me this video saying how he found it funny.

  • @1b74 Well, congratulations man. I'm just giving my personal advice on how I wrote my book. Thanks for watching anyways.

  • @1b74 I am already published as i've stated. My book is in the last stages of editing.

  • @1b74 What book did you have published?

  • @thiswonderfullife the books i have had published are the last ten seconds, not a good day to die, the crime trade and a few more. you can see them on amazon.

  • @1b74

You are fucking retarded. All the books you mentioned you wrote are written by different authors. You are a fucking idiot.

  • @AllThatAwakens they are my books and I wrote them don't know what fucking books your been looking at. But the ones that I write have my name on the front cover SIMON KERNICK can't miss it.

  • @1b74 also how do we know thts even you?

  • @1b74 your so full of yourself. give your fellow writers some fucking respect. Hes trying to help people out and your here trying to sound like your better then everyone because your a "published" author. give him some respect. Good job Alvarez i liked the video

  • @Eric0399 Thanks Eric.

  • @lilmichael212 Bravo!

  • @1b74 If you are an author....with that spelling.....and that attitude....I'm a cave-dwelling disco monkey.......

  • Hey, mate. Good advices here , but I got one thing to say... 6:42 Here it sounds like you think that magic is a stupid thing to put in a book. Well, remember that magic is a very wide topic. No fantasy-author portrays it in the same way, and I think it's brilliant how Christopher Paolini, writer of Eragon portays magic. In his books magic is nothing else than energy taken from other objects, channeled in a special way. I think magic is awesome, if you can put limits to it, like in Eragon.

  • I never said it was stupid. I just meant to say that the "Magic thing has been done too many times in the same way. I just meant to say that if you are going to have magic, make the magic system original.

  • @alvarez73726 If that's what you meant you and I are totally agree! :)

  • Are you going to publish your book? Thanks for the advice.

  • Thanks dude! - Love the Dark Knight also.

  • Your welcome. Hope I helped a little.

  • My advice: Read a lot, define your world over time, and go back to refine if their are inconsistencies and/or plot holes. Let the story flow naturally for the personalities & motives of the characters. Don't set-up too much in advance, a rough outline is helpful, but don't plot-plan. Take cues from your own life, or other books/movies you like. It's fine to start generic, and then deviate. Try adapting a classic no one owns, but let it change when it wants to... like an old fairytale perhaps...

  • Once you publish the book, tell us, I would like to read it.

  • Alright: I'll let you know.

  • Makes sense.
