On her deathbed, Rose's last thoughts were of Jack, a stranger she knew for less than two weeks. At the same time, she expresses no thoughts for her children or her late husband. Why? Because Jack represents something she knows she cannot have. She's self-entitled and all-consuming. She truly doesn't care for either Jack nor her children/husband.
For those who didn't understand, kate winslet's character uses leonardo's character's lower class vitality to restore her ego, he draws a picture of her, she gets all the attention to make her feel better, but when he is freezing or frozen to death in the ocean, hanging by the side, she has no use for him anymore and let's him go sink. No more use to her now, so she disposes.... What a love story.. Superior class dynamic with Inferior class.
i have to write a paper on this dude he better not dis my movie. also i have no idea what he just said. i hate these damn theorist him and foucault, butler, kristeva all them incomprehensible gibberish and ramblings about nothing
Other critics agree with me, posted after previous comment was made incidentally.

The discussion about Titanic begins at around 7:50
It's a bourgeois film, it panders to comfortable myths from the perspective of those who benefited from them.
Today ships usually have sufficient life boats.. not due to lessons from Titanic, but because most people insist on those lessons being heard above 'glamour' of profit for pompous rich owners.
@TheBoomViper You haven't cited any critics or anyone known for deep insights.
You somehow expect us to consider tabloid ads, Murdoch's gutter press etc, they loved it. $ talks.
When discussed as a social/cultural object.. It's solitary Conservatives with the Terminator soundtrack featured big on their channel who come to defend it. Nothing wrong with that.. however it does prove my point for me. TYVM.
You wish me to cite film critics? As for your other political bullshit, I can assure you that nobody cares. Nobody is going to waste their time listening to some self-satisfied bunch of dickheads whining about Titanic's supposedly-political themes. If that's all you're drawing from the film and moan about, then you just proved that you haven't got a life. Nice going.
@MrClipper23 well i am struggling in my soc class where we have to do readings on him and i really am trying but to me it is just so hard to understand. it is like he is speaking another language. but what really sucks is that everyone else in that class seems to understand him perfectly. i feel out of my depth

@fleurgi Slavoj puts well why Titanic got hyped by tabloids IMO.
Consider how Titanic contrasts particularly strongly with films by Ken Loach for instance.

Solidarity, reasonableness & humor of regular working people; real lives, replaced in Titanic by alienated self centered drivel.
If history had really been like that.. ships would still have oars, evri1 would be in chains rowing them.
Titanic is like a Murdoch greed cult prono. Shame really, effects must have cost heaps.

A handful of critics agree with you, so what? You're still a minority, a little black dot on the whiteboard.

@fleurgi I sympathize. Have confidence in yourself, and do not let the accent intimidate you.
