It is in no way SCI with better graphics, you can feel the different artist direction on the game, the different gameplay and how it was guided for the maisntream gaming community instead of the competitive core of the game. I know many disagree, but I think WoW is the best MMO out there for MOST people, because it takes less time than many of the others, and it's still pretty good. That being said, someone, Blizzard or not, needs to step up and make another mainstream MMO with faster paced gameplay than WoW

Of course it's SCI with better graphics. I think they believe that SCI was the best RTS formula possible, with few exceptions. Those exception imo are games like Total Annihilation/Supreme Commander with the commander building stuff, or WCIII with RPG elements. I don't think the RTS genre can be taken much further. MMOs, on the other hand, have plenty of room for gameplay improvement. So chin up

Blizzard is pretty smart if you think about it. It is not that the lan is missing. They are just not including the interface for it. Once you go into battlenet and verse someone close to your network, it will switch to lan-like mode. The fact that you need to get verified by battlenet is smart in a way cutting off priacy. Starcraft 1 was too easy to just download it off internet and play the lan without paying for it. It benefited those large paid lan game rooms.
