When NBC aired this movie in the 1970s, they cut the opening titles from the beginning, slapped on their own makeshift main title just before the first scene, and waited till the conclusion to run the film's title sequence, presumably because scenes from the film were used in the titles and they didn't want to spoil it for anyone.
@TrgdyAnn This was on AMC a few days ago, and I watched it again for the first time in years. This without a doubt, is Roddy McDowall's BEST role ever. Look for 60's era body builder Dave Draper in the one scene where he and McDowall square off. GREAT scene!
@Shawnster65 I ordered it on Netflix a week ago, and the very day it came, TCM played it,....LOL Roddy McDowall was definately underrated in this film, but he was a very intense Actor all around. Luvd his Character Acting in the Klassic 'Planet of the Apes' also. They didn't have an easy time filming with that make-up on. He and Kim Hunter were a great pair up for that series!
@TrgdyAnn Agreed, McDowall and Hunter made the most beguiling pair of Apes in the whole series. And that classic makeup is always a charm..watching them talk thru their makeup with the unrealistic lip movement makes it all the more nostalgic.
"The Legend Of Hell House" was downright spooky, and then we have....Peter Vincent, VAMPIRE HUNTER from "Fright Night"!!!
I have vague memories of seeing this in the 70's on TV but had the soundtrack LP (sadly long gone) which had a number of different versions of this song on it. Damn, I can feel a quest (and probably an expensive one) coming on!
@AnatRock it's a euphemism for the expression "fuck a duck," which just means "this sucks!" so I think grammatically it would be "Lord" as in "God help us" or "Jesus Christ!" and then, literally, telling someone to have sex with a duck. So if there is a similar idiomatic curse in Russian, perhaps with another animal or something like that, you could use that form and just replace your animal with a duck? Use your imagination!
@ivyshoots It's a supplicative cry for the Lord, to "love" or "show mercy" a duck, once you're stuck, out of luck, like Chuck, and nobody gives a fuck. Please just bear with me on this explanation, my name is Charles and I've been there before.
This is a wonderful film. I was just a small kis when it came out but saw it a couple of years ago for the first time. The cashmere sweaters of it all ! It's just one of the best 60s films. Yes.
This is one of the greatest movies EVER! Great song too -- lyrics by Ernie Sheldon, I forgot that; he wrote Baby, The Rain Must Fall and joined the Limeliters for three weak LPs in the '60s....
Neither do I, but I don't tell them what to do regarding all the revivals they do; if the want to do it, they can do it. Hollywood shouldn't be any different. Plus, it's been 45 years, what harm would a remake of this movie (based on a novel) do?
I'm just expressing a personal opinion, Neville, not giving anybody any orders.
I think you'll admit that most present-day remakes are pretty awful, and that Hollywood (like the record industry) is more interested in exploiting "back catalogue" - so to speak - rather than developing anything genuinely new.
@blackrock1969....or Colin Hanks. Or Daniel Radcliffe. Or any young man who can act. Please stop being such a purist about any new movie version of what is basically a novel at its source.
Cool, they only had the sweater scene on before but this song is so crazy. Very underrated movie. Roddy McDowell is so amazing, caught by his love and by his cunning. Long live mollymauk!
Hey- Hey- Hey, Dave Draper Mr. Universe.

Can you believe Roddy McDawall was almost 40 when he made this movie. He didn't look like a High School Senior but he sure didn't look his age

I don't see how doing a remake would harm anyone. It could make it more well known, even if they do muck it up.

I pray to God that NOBODY does a remake of this brilliant film. (I loathe remakes anyway - let's have a little bit of originality!)
PS. I hadn't previously noticed how bizarre the title song's lyrics are.

Broadway does 'remakes' of great musicals all of the time, and you don't mind-what's the damage here with this movie?

Yeah, well, Neville, I NEVER go to Broadway...

Someone should do a remake of this great movie, and the theme song would fit like a hand in a glove for Smash Mouth.

I agree with you 100%, and the blond girl on Heroes can play Tuesday Weld's part-the Roddy McDowell part, I'm not too sure. Got any ideas?
BTW, don't mind those people who gave you thumbs down-I give you a thumbs up.
