i have a 2008 chevy cobalt LT sedan and i commute about 60 miles on the days i work, 30 n 30 back and i average about 39-40 mpg going about 58-65 mph! i was very pleased going from a navigator to a cobalt! its a wonderful car! perfect for the commuters! interior is nice on the 2008s +
General Motors just announced that it is recalling 1.3 million cars because the steering may fail while you're driving. The recall affects the 2005 to 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt.
May I ask whether or not you drive it like a granny would, riding around shopping for groceries on a Sunday morning with a feathered foot, because mine on the highway gets about 27mpg, but I dog my engine stich shift style, I think that might be it huh.
No, usually I'm doing 70 on the highway. I travel where there's a lot of hills. Yeah, the stick-shift style may be doing you in, but not that much. Checked the tire pressure?
i bought a 2005 used cobalt with 45k miles, just to drive back and forth to work, i get about 28mpg going 12 miles one way with 5 stop lights. no problems with it, great car.its a hell of a lot better than the honda civic i had.
dude i freakin love this car, i am gettin 30 MPG from an automatic. and it has a decent amount of power too. critics complain that it is bland and that the interior feels cheep but i dont agree. but a tip, dont get an ls if it is an 06 or later, it is very stripped down, but you get what you pay for
The base model Pontiac G5 is the exact same as the Chevy Cobalt LT (except the front grill, steering wheel logo, and tail lights -- all of which are purely cosmetic differences)
We've got an 06 automatic Cobalt and, with a 50 mile a day commute (mostly on the highway, at 65 mph) I can expect 34-36 mpg. One time, though, I got curious and set the cruise control at 55 all the way home and managed 41.8 mpg. Pretty impressive from a 2800lb, 145hp car! It's good to see that American auto makers have started to take small cars seriously, after how godawful the last geration of compacts were.
Definitely better than the Cavalier, but not as good as some other small cars. I'd feel safer in this Cobalt than I do in my '97 Tracer. It did good for it's time, but not compared to this.

I have a cobalt SS. V8 in this car is great! But i have the coupe. It looks to me like the coupe is a bit safer than the sedan.

@MomentFan96

@MomentFan96 The cobalt only comes in 4 Cyl models...
(excuse me if you installed one your yourself)

I drive 70 miles a day and my cobalt's been great. Getting 48.3 mpg average is good. Got mine in February 08 and have 30,000 miles on it!

Holy, I own one and this is crazy. The whole front end gets crunched into nothing. AHAHA

That's good. The object of the crush zone is to absorb the energy before it gets to the safety compartment.

Check out the Smart Car crash test. I saw it and thats why I bought a Cobalt Instead.

The interior felt very cheap in my '05 Cobalt. The silver started peeling off of the handles of the door on the inside.
