Because I hate the command line shite you have to learn for Linux. And all the Linux forums are full of people that say (when you ask a question) "If you don't know, you shouldn't be using Linux." So I don't bother anymore.
I am loving the new Windows 7 though. Its very light on a system (I loaded it onto an Acer One Netbook - 1.6Ghz CPU, 1Gb RAM - and it runs great) Maybe I'll use Win7 for the next build.
And yo dont have to learn the linux language to use it. I use Ubuntu and its all GUI. The forum is the best online now and ive never read of "If you don't know, you shouldn't be using Linux" over there.
Maybe I will mate, I have finally got all the parts apart from RAM for my next build though I still have to cut the new case up, and get it painted...
I have tried Ubuntu in VPC, but could never get used to it.
but however the intel cpu are better then amd that is something everyone shut know that is in the gaming market but you need like 200 euro for a intel cpu and 100 euro for a amd with the same performance
i will get my AMD phenom 2 945 next year april
will run on 3GHz stock but you can overclockt it to 5 with watercooling but however there are still no benchmarks of this processor so i will wait till next year that i will upgrade my rig
why are you going for the Q9650 when intell have there new Core i7 production line
will be a nice project if you will put it all in a lian li server cube will olso be nice if you drill out the tob of it and place there your radiators
it is still a dream of me to get one of that cases and dremel the top out and place my 9x120 mm radiator so it will not be anymore on the outside of my case.
I went with socket LGA775 because I already had the board before i7 came out. And due to the actions of some greedy idiot property brokers and bankers around the world, I don't have as much money as I would have before the credit crunch!
Anyway the Q9650 @ 3Ghz will be a big enough jump from the Phenom @ 2.5Ghz. Of course the Phenom is OCed to 2750Mhz, and I will OC the Q9650 to about 3.8Ghz (I know you can get it to run at 4Ghz, I may need this CPU to last a while!)
Well I got the PU for a bit of future proofing. I now have a second raptor and a GTX280.
In a month or so the PSU, GPU, HDD's and DVD drive will all go into a new build.
Intel Q9650, Asus Striker 2 Extreme, 3 separate water loops. All in a Lian Li server cube case cut and drilled to accommodate the rads and res's. The case will be painted inside and out, with a bit of airbrush artwork on the outside. And yes, there will be a big window, CCFL's, and LED's. I cant wait!
The BIOS was updated to version 1103, I updated it with EZ Flash (Ausus' own program). I am getting a really stable 10% overclock at 45Degrees C under load with the water cooling.
BEAT THIS!!!!: Prototype PC with:Prototype CPU 16 Cores each @ 3.02Ghz,3 Tb HDD ,2x Nvidia 8800GTX OC 1GB DDR2,16GB RAM GDDR 3,Prototype case with fan cooling+water cooling+liquid ice tank (only for overheatings).NO I AM NOT JOKING,THE SYSTEM WILL BE OUT IN MARCH 2009 FOR THE LARGE PUBLIC,ESTIMATED PRICE: 6000$ US

i think your 1000 watt psu is like 300 watt overkill
i have now the 9950 x4 running on 3.2 ghz a 4870x2 non overclocked and like 6x 500 gb hdd's and 2x 300 vl raptor and this on a corsair 750 watt psu
but nice rig even the watercooling.
still need to install my watercooling will be one long day to install my new 18mm tubing in my rig and a radiator with 9x 120 mm fan

veca1987 3 years ago
The 9950 is out now, i'd go for that as you will be able to OC it a little bit more. Up to 3.1-3.2 maybe?

lies, 8800 GTXs are old now and they don't come in anything more than 768 mb
but 16 core cpus are coming out, but for corporate use, I would know, my dad works closely with Intel
