Ok I think I figured out what happened but this is purely speculation.

I think she was told that she was lipsyncing, (FYI, they still sing when they do this, their just not heard on the speakers for the crowd), however I think the mic was broadcasting to the world. Since she wasn't hooked up with an ear piece to hear herself, she was totally out of key and really, really, really, really, did I say really, terrible. I don't think she could hear herself and didn't know anyone else could.
