I don't want to nit-pick, but buffalo are still around. In fact, they are so plentiful that they have been taken off of the endangered species list and there are around 500,000 buffalo in some 4,000 ranches throughout the United States and Canada. If anyone has ever had bufallo meat they would know that it makes one of the juciest, most tender burgers around. In fact, that would make for a really good episode of Good Eats...

@ptrlapp The large majority of farmed buffalo isn't buffalo, but rather, beefalo. Crossbred with cattle. There's only three or four herds of pure buffalo left in the US.

@ptrlapp Buffalo isn't very cheap, and it's not very widely available. I'd be able to get it in my town, but I'd have specifically go to a butcher shop instead of going to the nearby mega mart grocery store. Even if buffalo is available, it's likely to be frozen, which means I can't really judge the quality of the meat. Also buffalo has less fat than beef, so it's easier to overcook. Although it's a nice change from beef, I don't necessarily enjoy it more than beef.

@ptrlapp my friends fathers business partner has a ranch with dozens of bison. my loose connection with the guy means i get 20 free grass fed steaks a year. you arent kidding about the meat, almost like a sweet beef
