For these games the actors only have mere minutes to convey personality, emotion, drama, etc., so they have to overact in order to deliver as big of an impact as quick as possible for these cut scenes. I think these guys for this game did an admirable job, and it is clear that this is heavily based upon the David Lynch 1984 movie which was a brilliant envisioning of Dune.
So, if Elara really drank the water of life , she must be a reverend mother too because she lives, right? As far as I remember, drinking the water leades to two things only - either gaining the memories of her female ancestors (which is simply becoming a reverend mother) or dying. So why is this old bitch behaving like Elara has a rank that's lower than hers?
Hahhaha, I couldn't stop laughing for several minutes. I love the onscreen comments you added to these vids Smithdanger, it's a treat to watch these again, thanks!
why is everyone talking about how bad the acting is? this is only for a video game and the actors know that so they are not going to give their best performance for a video game and why should they since they are not getting any substantial amount of money or recognition.
i have the opposite opinion. i thought she was brilliant. she seems to hold up a facade which she cannot.
she puts on the atmosphere that dominates the entire game thickly. she strongly overacts, but so do all the actors in the game. they were clearly instructed to.
unless she is not acting someone that's putting up an act. in which case she would have sucked.
Yeah. By the time this game was made, Westwood Studios knew it wouldn't be around for long. According to the First Decade Bonus DVD, they wanted to have a lot of fun with Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge. Since this game came after Red Alert 2 (I think) then they'd definitely want to have fun with the last of their Dune franchise. Personally, I find the overacting to give it a certain flair.
the acting by the ravened mOther is so bad I smiled.
When she get's all "you dare to use the voice on Me!" lol so bad and when shes talking about deaths she sounds like she saying "there are Desks and there are desks"
What does Elara say after RM says "perhaps you are the one"?

Part of the problem with the acting is that they are trying really really hard to mimic the 1984 movie.

The acting in these cutscenes were indeed bad but I much rather watch these corny movies than the movies from Red Alert 3.

Word. Red Alert 3 doesn't even come close the feeling of the older games. :/

Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge had some very campy cutscenes as well

Yeah, I really liked Nicholas Worth's role in those. ^^
Too bad he's dead now. :(

desks. awesome :) Her acting wasn't as bad as it could have been, but I get the feeling she wasn't too into the material.
