  • Which trail is this? I grew up in Bentonville, and usually just went on the two-mile wild spelunking trail.

You're spot on regarding the whole southern accent thing. I recently went hiking in the BWCA on the Canadian border. The owner of the cabin we stayed at wanted to know why someone who grew up in Arkansas had no southern accent. I had to explain how that the Ozark region is so full of outside influences that a southern accent will seldom be heard.

  • @heezdedgym (Continued) I still contend that most of the southern accents that one hears in Branson are faked for the sake of the tourists, the same way they end their sentences in "eh" in Niagara Falls.

  • I would say 80% of the people I know from NWA share the same accent with the narrator. The "deep south" known for it's typical accent is quite a long ways from the Ozark Mountains.

  • I'm not from Arkansas, I was there with my then-girlfriend April and she was from Arkansas. I'm actually from Oklahoma, so not too far away. People have told me they're amazed I don't have the standard Okie accent =)
