From 1998 to 2007, Michigans No.1 receiver had at least 1000 yards, averaged at least 12 yards per catch, and scored at least 8 touchdowns in every year except 1 (2006), and in 06, Manningham had 2 of those 3 categories covered.

He was not a backup, or a role player, or the complimentary No.2 receiver. He was the go-to-guy. He was thrown to more then any other receiver. Infact, only Greg Mathews came close to Odoms in passes thrown at. Odoms stats were thus terrible for a No.1 receiver. No other logical deduction can be made.

And as I've explained millions of times, his being a freshman doesn't fucking matter because he's a wide receiver, which is by far and away the easiest position to be productive IMMEDIATELY. From David terrell in 1999, to Steve Breaston in 2003, to Mario Manningham in 2005, and to Roy Roundtree(!) in 2009, there have been almost a half-dozen freshmen receivers who were much better statistically then Odoms.

@BillyMadison And most importantly, using Threet as an excuse for Odoms' season being much worse then other the other freshmen receivers I mentioned ignores the fact that two of them (David Terrell in 98, Roundtree in 09) each had erratic, interception-prone, 1st year starting QB's in Tom Brady (GASP!) and Tate Forcier. Brady was not Brady until the 1999 Penn State game, so don't even bother arguing with me there. And Forcier was a True Freshman.

Bottom line: Odoms sucked dick not because he was a freshman, and not because he had an erratic QB, but because Odoms is just not the in the same universe as those other receivers and therefore had no business...

Roundtree was entrenched as the starter in the slot, while it was all Hemingway and (unfortunately) Stonum on the outside. Why? Because all those guys were much more productive than Odoms, even the notoriously underachieving Stonum. Odoms never should have been the go-to-receiver as a freshman in 08 when he couldn't crack the starting lineup as a fucking Junior.

We really have no choice but to start Denard at QB (he'd transfer anyways if we tried to move him to the slot). My concern is what kind of version of the prostyle Borges is going to run. Hopefully its more like the Spread HD ala 08 Penn State then a traditional prostyle.

If the shotgun is mostly what Michigan runs, than Denard should have the same QB rating he had last year and be less erratic cause he's an upperclass returning starter

He was not a backup, or a role player, or the complimentary No.2 receiver. He was the go-to-guy. He was thrown to more then any other receiver. Infact, only Greg Mathews came close to Odoms in passes thrown at. Odoms stats were thus terrible for a No.1 receiver. No other logical deduction can be made.

And other then Manningham, all of them were over 200 pounds (Manningham was still 181). Odoms did not have the natural athletic ability to make up for his lack of size.

And as I've explained millions of times, his being a freshman doesn't fucking matter because he's a wide receiver, which is by far and away the easiest position to be productive IMMEDIATELY. From David terrell in 1999, to Steve Breaston in 2003, to Mario Manningham in 2005, and to Roy Roundtree(!) in 2009, there have been almost a half-dozen freshmen receivers who were much better statistically then Odoms.

@BillyMadison And most importantly, using Threet as an excuse for Odoms' season being much worse then other the other freshmen receivers I mentioned ignores the fact that two of them (David Terrell in 98, Roundtree in 09) each had erratic, interception-prone, 1st year starting QB's in Tom Brady (GASP!) and Tate Forcier. Brady was not Brady until the 1999 Penn State game, so don't even bother arguing with me there. And Forcier was a True Freshman.

Fortunately for THE TEAM, Odoms lost his job to Roundtree and hasn't seen the field as a starter since with the exception of the first two games last year when Hemingway was nicked up and he started opposite Stonum at outside receiver. Roundtree was entrenched as the starter in the slot, while it was all Hemingway and (unfortunately) Stonum on the outside. Why? Because all those guys were much more productive than Odoms, even the notoriously underachieving Stonum. Odoms never should have been the go-to-receiver as a freshman in 08 when he couldn't crack the starting lineup as a fucking Junior.

We really have no choice but to start Denard at QB (he'd transfer anyways if we tried to move him to the slot). My concern is what kind of version of the prostyle Borges is going to run. Hopefully its more like the Spread HD ala 08 Penn State then a traditional prostyle.

@Brewhaman BTW, Michigan only put up 600 yards against the Delaware States and Bowling Greens of the world (Baby seal University, as mgoblog calls it). The 2010 offense didn't do SHIT against red letter teams (Brandons words, not mine), hence why the season average finished below 500 mcuh less 600. And then there's the 107th ranking in TO margin and the pitiful PPG against red letter teams (7 against Ohio State). Dickrods offense=overrated paper tiger!
