  • Very brave kids, I only wish the 101st had gotten the chance to beat the shit out of a few of those racist fucks trying to protest the desegragation

  • hey guys you should read "Warriors Don't Cry" It's a book written by Melba Pattillo Beals. She was one of the Little Rock Nine and she tells everything she rememberes about the time. Its amazing.

  • They were so strong to go throw all this I admire them.

  • i admire people like this. i know they were scared out their minds but they kept going forward. people of today shouldn't be so arrogant just because a biracial man is in the white house. racism or any ism doesn't go aweay with one act or it would have disappeared when lincoln outlawed slavery, when women got the right to vote and work...

  • The national guard was originally there to prevent these nine icons into the school. However after the supreme court case brown v board of education which allowed the integration in public schools. Therefore the governer of Arkansas said that he would withdraw all soilders and police officers from the school. Leaving these nine children to the hands of the people of Arkansas who despised them. Dwight D. Eisenhower sent in the 101st airborne to escort these nine students to school everyday.

  • I'm kind of sick of people making reference to the founding father's intent when it comes to race and the constitution. Let's not delude ourselves into believing they weren't, for the most part, slave owning would-be segregationists themselves. Can we as a country move past needing their permission to do what our evolved democracy requires in order to achieve true equality?

  • Thank you, National Guard, for letting these nine brave souls get the education they EQUALLY deserve!

  • So much hate when all these kids wanted to do is learn.

  • @surgedark: Just from that comment you seem like the type of person that makes me embarassed to be white, but to answer your question we need those things because as citizens in a global community we need to be able to interact w/ people different from ourselves&if we can't even do that in our own country then we're fucked. Staying separate breeds suspicion & keeps people from realizing the simple truth that people are just people & every race has good and bad & we're really not so different.

  • @RUNNINGxFROMxLIONS28

My god you're a dumbass. Enough said.

  • more chicken

  • chicken

  • chicken

  • The military prevented these students from going to work? And this was in American?

  • this dude is so fucking boring!!

  • Why do we NEED integration? Why do we NEED diversity? I don't get it, can somebody tell me why we need these things?

White America (1776-1964) did perfectly well without any of those things, why are we fixing something that was never broke in the first place?

  • @surgedark

let me ask you something. does our constitution say 'all men are created equal except for filthy negroes'? does it say 'all men are created equal but white men are still superior.'? No, it sais 'ALL MEN ARE CREATED EQUAL'

  • @Glassandcandy

That is because the thought back then was that Whites were men and nonwhites were sub-humans. If we considered nonwhites humans back in 1776, it would definitely specify that "Whites are created equal." Otherwise, why didn't the founding fathers argue for black voting rights if they intended it for all men?

  • @surgedark Benjamin Franklin once explained that the separation from Britain was necessary since every attempt among the Colonies to end slavery had been thwarted or reversed by the British Crown. In fact, in the years following America's separation from Great Britain, many of the Founding Fathers who had owned slaves released them (e.g., John Dickinson, Ceasar Rodney, William Livingston, George Washington, George Wythe, John Randolph, and others).

  • @Glassandcandy But as a country slavery was still legal, infact it was legal long after the British Empire had outlawed any form of slavery.

  • @Mizzuru True but it was of intense debate among most colonist and the founding fathers, it was a controversial issue and a rift had been formed ever since the country first took shape.

  • Pretty much all the southern states

  • Arkansas

  • If the wealth of all nations was evenly distributed and the financial stress of survival was lifted, we would not have the physiological need to blame someone else for our own misfortunes. Poverty, oppression and fear is the fertile grown of racism and the people in power will maintain their greed.

We as the masses must work together instead of blaming each other.

The Little Rock Nine are the bravest among us. They lead the way for us all to share among ourselves starting with Education.

  • @lightofdae

Did you know a negro millionaire last week in Detroit murdered a white man? I thought poverty was the root cause of it.

  • @surgedark

just because one person does something wrong doesnt mean it's the fault of an entire race. following your logic, i should be mad at all whites because of oswalt killing kennedy!

  • Holy shit! Is this Morgan Freeman?

  • you should read warriors dont cry. Melba, shes one of the nine, some bad stuff hapened to her

  • in oprah they intewviewed the little rock nine and

some of the white students who abused and hurted them

and most of them apologized and ment it but there was this

one adult and they could tell but then Ernest green reconized

him and said "Your that guy who was near my locker you were the

guy that i feared the most". Ironic isnt it?

  • The south. Being racist as hell since the 1800s.

  • @9N8X I've lived in the North and South for years in both, and to be completely honest, there are a lot more racist people in the North (Blacks Racist against Whites, and Whites Racist Against Blacks) than down South.

  • @kevinncc1701 what states specifically?

  • @Summerslam96 I've lived in the South in: Georgia, Florida, Alabama, North and South Carolina, and Virginia

I've lived in the North in: Ohio, Michigan, West Virginia, and Pennsylvainia.

And in Ohio, Alone, i've met more racist people than probably in all of the South.

  • Hey, Guy who who's comment is below mine. Fuck you. That is just plain racist.

  • @sleepyluiz13 And apparently the internet is full of racists who can't spell.

  • shocking!

  • AMERICA...THE LAND OF THE FREE? whoever told you that is your enemy!

  • Now something must be done!

  • Yes I know my enemies

They're the teachers who taught me to fight me

    Compromise, conformity, assimilation, submission

    Ignorance, hypocrisy, brutality, the elite

All of which are American dreams

All of which are American dreams

All of which are American dreams

All of which are American dreams

  • The South: Suffering a time lag since forever.

  • pocat6 is so full of shit, HE'S A NAZI!

  • My grandpa was in the national gaurd protecting them!.. he told me story's tonight

  • not blacks, African Americans!\

out of the 1 billion black folks in the world 40 million live in America. 100 million is south America and 900 million in Africa. If that minority is angry, soul search your American country, not the black race!

  • actually, whites cause more crimes, US news services are just racist.

  • Yes like Bankers setting up a shell game to Fuck over America for their profits. Wonder how many were Black?

  • It isn't about being black or white. In my opinion for our society to make a step forward..every ethnic group & gender needs it time to "feel special". This is a time of atonement & all other ethnic groups etc...should not be invited.

So...black history month is very important & should be recognized as such..but...white history is just as important. White Europeans founded this country..so it only makes sense that for this period of time..there are more accomplishments listed in.hist. books.

  • my couisin goes to Centrel and i went their (i live in Little Rock) the school has turned into a big peice of shit its looked down upon if you go to centrel here. Centrel now is where gun and gang and knife fights happen its changed

  • What needs to happen to restore the school to what it should be?

I have to tell you, when you look at that angry mob in old videos that assaulted those very innocent and terrorfied 9 black kids, I'd say THAT KIND OF HATE is responsible for the downward spiral of the school.

If there's a gang problem, lets get rid of the gangs.

If it's a poverty problem, lets work to lift everyone from poverty.

If it's a drug problem, lets incarcerate anyone found with drugs.

  • The idea that you can change the morality of people by having the federal government create certain laws is what is wrong with this country.

Everyone is so dependent on federal government to fix everything that nothing gets done from the local level.

Once the federal government stops attempting to rule our lives and policing the world and once the control and responsibilies goes back to local governments and individuals, thats when we will start to see real change in the US.

  • Your assumption is the state and local governments are better at morality than the federal government.

Bigotry and Discrimination is usually caused by fear and ignorance. When the federal government changes a law, and the people can see it doesn't destroy society, they eventually realize their fear was unfounded.

But progress won't be made if the government doesn't fix the things that the people screw up.

And discrimination against any group, on any level, for any reason, is NOT OK!

  • Completely Classless - and ignorant comments like this make you look like you drink toilet water!

  • The HATRED in California's Proposition 8 is reminiscent of The Hatred the Arkansas 9 fought back in 1957.

Today, in California, Right-Winged Religious Zealots are attempting to amend the California Constitution to promote discrimination, hatred and bigotry.

If you have any friends who live in California, please urge them not to eliminate anyone's right to marry, and to VOTE NO on Prop 8!

    Thank you!

  • why?? maybe segration is the right way. look at this fucking school, its worse for everyone, thats the theme of this show, its worse for black whites everyone. this school has turned to shit

  • Chad, it's "segregation" -- not segration

And if the school is worse for everyone, then do something to change it. Make it better!

I would have hoped you would have learned something in the past 50 years. Segregation Never Helps Anything - it divides, it does not unify!

We live in one America! If the students in this school are tearing down the school; then lets give the students something to be proud of, lets give the students something to fight for; lets give the students HOPE.

  • Well said :-)

  • Please do not compare gay marriage with civil rights of african americans in america. I am for gay marriage, but the two issues are so not the same.

  • they are not the same, but the bigotry, hatred and discrimination is identical!

    * Gays were round up and killed by Hitler, just for being gay;

    * Gays were arrested for 'dancing with each other' in night clubs;

    * Gays were arrested for 'just being in a night club';

    * Gays were arrested for 'just being gay';

    * Gays aren't allowed to marry;

    * Gays were fired for being gay;

    * Gays were denied housing for being gay;

But NONE OF THIS IS THE SAME AS WHAT AFRICAN AMERICANS HAVE FACED!

  • for swaimb there is the same amount a racist whites up north than just like the south an you can't tell me i must be rich or proper naw its just some people descriminate to much. some people might think ima criminaljust because i have dreads which is not right but hey..

  • I agree - racism is everywhere. And there are just as many black racists as there are white racists. It's hatred ... and hatred is NEVER good!

  • Yes. It's not AS bad as it was (in the U.S. that is), but it's still out there. In fact, it's still a major thing, though, no longer protected by government and law. Seriously though, it seems that thinking what you are or what you believe is superior is the biggest mistake in the history of mankind.

  • but it's a mistake people make all of the time. If everyone could digest the simple concept of 'celebrate diversity', discrimination would disintegrate.

  • @Ilegalplayer LOL dont worry about that worry about burnin in hell forever

  • AFRICANS CURSED BLACK & FROM THE PRIESTHOOD By MORMONS

"..CURSED..to the Priesthood..being of the(BLACK AFRICAN)lineage by which he could not have the right of PRIESTHOOD(Abraham1:26-27)"

24..(BLACK AFRICAN)Ham,sprang that race which preserved the CURSE in the land(Abraham1:23-24)

"..the LORD shall CURSE the land..A BLACKNESS came upon all the(BLACK AFRICANS)..of Canaan, that they were despised among all people..(Moses7:8)"

"..seed of Cain were BLACK,and had not place among them..(Moses7:22)

  • Did you say this is a Mormon thing?

  • Yeah, I'm not a mormon. Not at all.

  • Your racist cult was given life in 1830 by a man named Joseph Smith... Get a life...You don't even have the title of religion.!! not even 200 years, even America is older than you cult!!

  • well photolitherland and newvagal people could be ashamed of the way us black kids act today but it isnt neccesarly just black kids and i know 1rst person because ima 14 year old from miami florida an i know how it is. some kids say it is because there out the ghetto and from the projects or ect... naw it aint that.

  • Im from Little Rock and when i go somewhere and i say im from Little Rock and people think im a racist i agree Not all people in Arkansas are rasict

  • yea horace mann!!!! go bearcats! woot! ok well anyways not everyone in arkansas is racist. Sometimes it even seems that more black people r racist against white ppl. wuts the deal? cant we just ALL get along!?! and y is it so bad to call someone black-ppl call ppl white! gosh. ppl these days.

  • Comment removed

  • Shut up man im from Little Rock i no nowone who is a rasict not one person and my brother goes 2 Central Their r hardly any Racost their and most of the school is black now

  • wow that's some strong sterotyping.. maybe you should get your facts straight before you criticize a whole region of the country..

  • Honey, American history IS your formal white history. I do agree with PHOTOLITHERLAND that those people would be ashamed of today's black youth. Wanna know why? Because they don't know their history!!! If they had been taught the sacrifice, courage, and dignity of blacks in the face of horrid conditions and oppression, that would impact a lot of the behaviors today. Instead, they were given the silent message that blacks counted for nothing.

  • You can't have a formal white history month because we learn about white people every other month. We got one month and the shortest month at that. Get it together.

  • I thought about it too, but then it hit me. We celebrate and learn about American culture every day, but we do not have to call it white history months. But I understand your point. All of us have a different cultural background. But what unites us all is our love for America and our culture. If there is a black history moth is because blacks had it a lot harder than many other immigrants, and the civil rights movement is a huge part in American history and in the shaping of our culture!

  • Everyday is white history month! Why the hell would you even ask that.

  • Comment removed

  • I don't think you got what I meant. So whatever.

  • central hoo-ra!

  • Go Tigers!

  • i am half white and half vietnamese and i find this whole ordeal completely humiliating and embarressing because people think that the color of your skin changes who you are. if my skin was purple i wouldn't act any different and i wouldn't be any smarter. but you try telling someone that 50 years ago and they probably would have shot you. they didn't even try to consider it. and i just think that if we were like that before then we are probably like that now with different issues also.

  • omg !! one of them came to my school...'

    Dr.roberts !! he was funny..lol

  • Im really happy we came so far along! I think its sad that so much happened just because the color of our skin. And I still think sad that people are fighting over it now ON youtube! I think its great to learn about this type of stuff to see how we can learn from it and make sure this never happens again in our country! I mean its just the color of our skin and I can't believe that all of that stuff happened because the color of our skin. It really makes me mad and sad! Im happy we came so far!

  • I really dnt thnk that u have to go to LRCHS to have a say. I would say if u are BLACK PERIOD. U should b able to say something about it. Cause I dnt even go to central but tha fact that they did us lyke that pissed me off!!!

  • If you didn't go to school at LRCHS then you do not have a say!

  • wrong!!!! i dont give damn wut u read i know mlack history since i major in it drrrr

  • ACTUALLY UR WRONG ONCE AGAIN!!!! see its funny how people believe everything they read on the internet!!!

  • White history is all the time!

  • because this kind of stuff didnt happen to whites in America did it jackass.

  • really?what about the irish in the 1840's? the polish in the 1920's? or the catholics in the late 1700's. maybe the jews in the 1890's. or the mormons in the mid 1800's.

  • Comment removed

  • What kind of nonsense is this? White history month is 12 months long so there.

  • Black history was never in the history book except MLK and a harriet tubman. George Wash to George Bush is more white history than I can think.

  • OK...name specifically what and who should be in the history books....who has been left out...please list a chronological list from the founding of our country to present day times.. also include why in your opinion why they were left out

  • Every month is white history month. We learn about the achievements of white every month out of the year. We get 1 month for our, and you get 12 for yours, and your still complaining. Just be happy about being white for once.

  • People say Eisenhower did nothing on civil rights. All one has to do is look at the balls he had to make this decision. People don't understand that there was such a backlash at the time, and Eisenhower was actually progressive on Civil Rights. He was a man of action, not words (why did JFK become famous on Civil Rights? His speeches). Ike also appointed 5 very-pro Civil Rights Supreme Court Judges.
