another brilliant video, I wish I could find land to shoot on....there is a farm in the next road but he wont let anyone on it, it's very frustrating coz every time I go past the field is full of corvids
@Cancerape Yeah that is a pain. But try and get to know the farmer offer to help out around the farm, in time if he see's he can trust you you might get permission.
@HuntersVermin I have never managed to get to speak to the farmer in person, all I get at the gate is his scummy eastern-european immigrants who can barely speak english.....I should offer to dispose of them as well :/
@Cancerape Get the farmer your helping at the moment to put a good word in for you. if not i'm afraid those corvids will just have to irritate you a while longer.
I am one of the many people who really enjoy your corvid control vids especially ones with the magpies because of the destructive nature they have towards other birds especially songbirds in breeding seasons.Do you ever use larsen traps in spring early summer to control them?
@JODIMAR45 I don't but some of the farms that i shoot on do use them but they don't always have the time to look after them properly so they sit and gather moss rather than magpies.
@HuntersVermin Thats a real shame because if you want to control magpies they work an absolute treat. They do have to be looked after properly so if the farmers around you do not have the time then they are better gathering moss rather than magpies.
@Aerozine50 Yes that is good advice but i hate wearing rubber gloves, plus i usually take a shower when i get home as my wife says i smell like a byre.
@HuntersVermin Merry xmas to all the hunters reading this, and i just thought i should add to this that campylobacter aint the end of the world just make sure you was your hands after and dont have open cuts and you will be very unlucky to catch it, the human body is full of bugs but they are only normally an issue if they get into the wrong place or in too higher number :) happy hunting :)
@Bronzeback134r Sorry, i don't really like the sound of my own voice ether but it seems to be the best way to explain what is happening in the video, but there was a lot of back ground noise that didn't help ether.
Most annoying thing about NI is needing an FAC and a vermin control ticket. I've got my rifle for target shooting but need to get permission to shoot over land. A few farmers I've asked will say yes, but they don't want to go through the hassle of getting the land checked by an FEO...any advice on what to do?
@tulleh Well to use your gun for vemin control you need it on you licence for it. You only really need one or two farms, plus when i got mine FAC the police only phoned to farmer to make sure i had permission for an air rifle, but that will depend on who is doing the land check. But once you have your gun on for vermin control you can go anywhere (within reason) so long as you have the farmers permission to shoot on his land. The responsibility is on YOU to shoot safely.
Can somebody help me? I am going to buy a rifle in christmas but what is my best option in gamo rifles? Or what are the best details that I need on a air rifle?
@doncortez1979 Thanks very much, but it was a slow day with the birds always on the move, but the next vid should be better with dobble the bag. Good luck with your hunt.
@HuntersVermin i dont mean to swear, its just that i patiently wait for u to post a new video, and when u finally do, i get real excited, when things dont go per usual i get really annoyed, if u could just increase ur voice volume/ decrease the background noise that would be appreciated! keep doing wat ur doing, i love it.
can sum 1 hus an airgun expert or does alot of airgun hunting tell me wat range would be suitable for a break barrel 1000fps to kill rabbits, and say i hit a rabbit at 35 yards and i hit it in the stomach or the back or shoulder, can rabbits run far wen hit in these locations.
@FIELDROX I have shoot several magpies in the stomach with a high velocity PCP rifle with roundnose pellets, and they could still fly away and I never found them. So I recommend hollowpoint pellets and put them down for good.
@FIELDROX about 50 yards at most atleast, also I would reccomend headshots because if hit in the stomach they will tear off(go very far and very fast) unless it punctured something vital, also back shoulder don't slow em down that much I would really reccomend headshots
@FIELDROX Hope you're not in the UK with that rifle, or you have it on FAC, as 1000 fps in a .177 is over 12 ft-lbs and in a .22 it's well over. Providing you're not in the UK, then a spine shot should drop it immediately, a shoulder will most probably kill it through shock within a couple of yards but a belly should would be tragic. The pellet would over penetrate and the rabbit would likely die of blood-loss/shock hours or days later. Never, ever shoot anything in the belly - a shameful kill.
@H18136 agreed on the bodyshots, I hunt mostly with a slingshot these days up to about 30m, as you can easily get 2x a non FAC air rifle power out of them with the right ammo. IMO if you can't headshot a rabbit at 35 yards with a scope mounted air rifle then you shouldn't be hunting with it though...
@FIELDROX as already said if you are in the uk and you dont have an fac ticket then your gun is illegal. never stomach shoot anything. headshot or heart shot will do the job. at 35mtrs you need to be able to put your pellets on top of each other not wider than your little finger nail same out to 50mtrs. if you cant do this pratice till you can before hunting...
@FIELDROX At 1000fps the gun is able to cleanly kill to 35-40 yards but you have to be able to shoot it accurately enough to put you pellet into the brain a place just behind the eye and below the ear. The heart is another kill zone just behind the front shoulder but a rabbit can run a short distance when shot here. Any where else is a wounded animal that will take a long time to die. With an airgun you have to practice till you can put 9 out of 10 pellets into a 3/4 inch kill zone.
@eohinyorks I know some will say its just a magpie but i don't like wounding things its not fair on them, i am there to do a job and i like to do it right and not leave stuff wounded here and there.
Thank´s David for the new video. We´ll check your channel after the festive days for an update. I don't want to cause you any stress ;-) Merry Christmas to you and your´s!
Another great video. Why do magpies flock another that is dead? I had a great shoot from a barn window where I shot one from a tree and moments later others gathered around it, I could then pick off more. In a space of about 20mins I managed to drop 5 more. The odd one kept its distance but still in range
@waddac2 I am not sure but all the crow family have a curiosity about other dead birds, more so the magpie, it might have something to do with they're peaking order as i have seen magpies hammering away at other recently shot birds.
@SissingPyd They are good at cleaning up road kill but they are also very sore on nesting song birds plus they steel the meal put out for the live stock out of the troughs and have a habbit of dunging all over the troughs too. So the farmer is very glad to see me reducing their numbers.
@timbphoto I really like my super 10 shame that they stopped making it but the R10 probably wouldn't have sold if they hadn't. Bothe the s410 and HW100 are really good rifles, i might edge toward the HW100 myself.
