Dean is just your average ultrarunner, nothing more, nothing less. His book was pretty sensationalist but he seems like a nice enough guy. Bottom line is stop worshipping him.

Dean is in no way a poser. He does exactley as he says... he runs. Sure he is not the best ultra runner,for races. But he is a great extreme distance guy with good intentions and in my book that's fine

Plus, I have heard from close friends that have met him that he is full of himself, which makes the whole 'In his introverted way' lyric a little silly.

But Tiger Woods is one of the greatest golfers of all time, and we know his personality flaws... Same can be said for Jordan and Lance and Bill Russell.

As a trail and ultra runner I appreciate what Dean can do, but, again, there are so many others that can eat Dean's lunch any day.

Okay, I can't stand the over promotion of Dean, and the whole Times Square charade pissed me off to no end. But you cannot deny the training and sacrifice the guy has made to get where he is. The 50 in 50 is another overloaded PR stunt, for sure, but in many ways, that is on the North Face. Dean was the one that ran 50 marathons in 50 places in 50 days. You have to be one of the best of the best to pull that off. Jurek, Semick, et al definitely deserve WAY more attention, though!

For those of us that can't ever be Ryan Hall, Dean is a inspiration. Surely you can see the appeal of a family man who completes mind boggling distances. He is remarkable, even if he isn't the best in the world. And he is marketable, which is the primary reason he gets so much attention. I'm happy he's around, because he gets his sport more attention, and pushing ultra marathons into the mainstream. I like following the sport, and thanks to him info on these races being made accessible.
