There is only a reference to Mary's Soul (Nefesh)which could also mean mind, spirit and no mention of her heart anywhere. How you arrive at your interpretation is a mystery to me. @graceinmay We must differentiate sin from original sin. Orthodox Christianity doesn't claim to know whether Mary ever sinned or not. Having experienced the immaculate birth of Jesus and the miracles she may have CHOSEN not to sin. However, being a part of the human race, Mary had original sin because only God is without original sin. Since God incarnated in the flesh and dwelt amongst us it is Jesus and ONLY Jesus who was without original sin. To claim the contrary is to depart from Christianty
@politicaltourist I believe the Catholic argument is that as Christ recieved His human nature from His Mother, and that as Christ was without sin in nature and in deed, Mary's nature must have been immaculate as well, for His human nature to be free of the stain of original sin. @graceinmay I am not a Catholic but if what you are saying is true that would imply that Catholics believe Mary is a God for only a God can determine someone's nature. Two twins who have near identical DNA may still differ greatly with regards to their personality. The differences in behaviour/personality would be attributed to God's impact would it not? The whole argument (if indeed Catholics have strayed so far from the truth as to use it) smells of polytheism.

@politicaltourist It could also be stated that an omnipotent God chose to keep Mary sinless, that His Son might take on a sinless human nature from her. Saying this would limit God's power would be a bit like saying God's going to the cross limits His power- could He not have chosen another way? Why did God need to be incarnate, or die for us? A Catholic response would be that Mary's sinless nature does not reflect God's need, but plan and will.

To be born without the stain of original sin is not to be born without a will, but to have a nature which can and will and desires to say "yes" to God purely and wholly. In no way was Mary without a will, but her will was uniquely free to say "yes" to God, and her nature was uniquely pure in order to convey to her Son a fully human and sinless nature. Mary is fully human as opposed to fully human and fully God, like her Son.

How about Romans 5 18 Consequently, just as one trespass resulted in condemnation for all people, so also one righteous act resulted in justification and life for all people. Mary called God her savior because He granted her the Grace of salvation. God can save Mary before she was born, a special grace. Adam and Eve were born without sin. Brother means kinsmen in Hebrew. Acts 1:12-15 states the gathering of Jesus's brothers, about 120 of them. Rom. 9:3 - Paul uses "brethren" and "kinsmen" interchangeably. 2 Kings 10:13-14 King Ahaziah's 42 "brethren" were really his kinsmen.

@Timesearch true to the genuine female character, she modestly stands back throughout the gospel history, and in the Acts and the Epistles she is mentioned barely once, and then simply as the "mother of Jesus;" even her birth and her death are unknown. she fades in holy humility before the higher glory of her Son

1 Kings 2:17, 20 - in the Old Testament Davidic kingdom, the King does not refuse his mother. Jesus is the new Davidic King, and He does not refuse the requests of his mother Mary, the Queen.

From scripture alone one can't find evidence for the immaculate conception. But looking at the Gospels Mary's role grows from Mark to Luke. There is only a reference to Mary's Soul (Nefesh)which could also mean mind, spirit and no mention of her heart anywhere. How you arrive at your interpretation is a mystery to me. Surely Mary suffered as would any mother would suffer witnessing her child's suffering and execution and this is what is alluded to here

I do have one question. Where in Scripture is it stated or implied that Mary was without sin? In the NT or in the OT.

@graceinmay We must differentiate sin from original sin. Orthodox Christianity doesn't claim to know whether Mary ever sinned or not. Having experienced the immaculate birth of Jesus and the miracles she may have CHOSEN not to sin. However, being a part of the human race, Mary had original sin because only God is without original sin. Since God incarnated in the flesh and dwelt amongst us it is Jesus and ONLY Jesus who was without original sin. To claim the contrary is to depart from Christianty

@politicaltourist I believe the Catholic argument is that as Christ recieved His human nature from His Mother, and that as Christ was without sin in nature and in deed, Mary's nature must have been immaculate as well, for His human nature to be free of the stain of original sin. Catholics, feel free to correct me.

@graceinmay I am not a Catholic but if what you are saying is true that would imply that Catholics believe Mary is a God for only a God can determine someone's nature. Two twins who have near identical DNA may still differ greatly with regards to their personality. The differences in behaviour/personality would be attributed to God's impact would it not? The whole argument (if indeed Catholics have strayed so far from the truth as to use it) smells of polytheism.

@politicaltourist No Sir, the Catholic argument is that God caused Mary to be born without sin, so that the human nature of His incarnate Son would likewise be free from sin, as His human nature was taken from His Mother. A Catholic would answer that God, not Mary, determined her sinless nature.

@graceinmay That implies that God is either not omnipotent (because he needs Mary to transform her nature onto the human manifestation of God or that he chose not to be omnipotent and chose to allow Mary to transfer her sinless nature to Christ's humanity. If you agree with the former argument you are not a Christian because you challenge God's omnipotent nature. If you agree with the latter part of the argument you must present scriptural evidence for it. Can you?

@politicaltourist It could also be stated that an omnipotent God chose to keep Mary sinless, that His Son might take on a sinless human nature from her. Saying this would limit God's power would be a bit like saying God's going to the cross limits His power- could He not have chosen another way? Why did God need to be incarnate, or die for us? A Catholic response would be that Mary's sinless nature does not reflect God's need, but plan and will.

@graceinmay As i said before if God chose that Mary should be sinless before she was even born in order for her to be "suitable" to give birth to Jesus then he took away her free will and therefore she is not human. If that is the case then what is she? Why doesn't the (so called) Catholic Church not just spill the beans and spell it out - they believe Mary is divine and worthy of worship

To be born without the stain of original sin is not to be born without a will, but to have a nature which can and will and desires to say "yes" to God purely and wholly. In no way was Mary without a will, but her will was uniquely free to say "yes" to God, and her nature was uniquely pure in order to convey to her Son a fully human and sinless nature. Mary is fully human as opposed to fully human and fully God, like her Son.

How can a person be born with a nature that "would always and under any circumstance desire to say "yes" to God purely and wholly" and at the same time have a free will? Wasn't Prophet Jonah upright and God fearing but once the devil asked God that Jonah be tested the humanity of Jonah surfaced? What about St Peter who denied the Christ? @politicaltourist Hey, PT. One can have a free will within the context of such a nature exactly because a desire to choose and a capacity to make choices itself reveals a will. A will in tune with God's will want and chose to honor and obey Him, and finally does just that. That doesn't mean one doesn't comprehend situations and options, but that one naturally desires to and does say "yes" to what is right, and true.

Reply - God forgave all sins - God's offer. Humans must accept the gift if we are to attain salvation. Not "all" people accept the gift or outright reject it. All could be saved but many will not be due to not accepting God's forgivness

How about Romans 5 18 Consequently, just as one trespass resulted in condemnation for all people, so also one righteous act resulted in justification and life for all people. You can try to duck Romans 3 - but why are all condemd?? Due to sin. Life came to all people who believe in Jesus and lord and Savior. Mary is just as condemded as other people. The RCC teaching of Mary being forgiven by Jesus death on the Cross has no Scriptual backing, no Apostolic teaching and is heresy to Jesus.

Mary KNEW she was a sinner - she knew she needed a sin offering, Luke 2:22, just like any other Hebrew woman. What a shame the catholic church turned her into a pagan goddess. Once I understood this, I was able to leave catholicism and have never regretted or doubted my bible. Ignorance is curable if you believe the words of the bible.

Adam and Eve were created of course. Yet Mary was saved by God before she was conceived - taught by the Church which was founded by Christ and lead by Peter and his successors. With Jesus' promise,' the gate of hell shall not prevail against it (His Church') He gave Peter and the Apostles the power to bind and loose. The Church infallibly compiled the true books of the Bible. Infallibly taught matters of faith and moral, including the Immaculate Conception of Mary, the Mother of God.

@knplam This concept is relatively new. So is the concept of "predemptive redemption". Only in the last 150 years such ideas started floating around thanks to radically out of touch popes. This peaked with Vatican II that rubber stamped the Mary Cult that has become the trademark of the Catholic Church and possibly the main attraction to the vast majority of mass participants who today happen to hail from Latin America, Africa and the Philippines and are culturaly inclined towards such heresies

Mary called God her savior because He granted her the Grace of salvation. God can save Mary before she was born, a special grace. Adam and Eve were born without sin. If you are about to fall into a hole unknowingly and some one stopped you, you are saved from falling into the hole. Common sense. God can do anything, and Mary thanked God for saving her. @knplam ...Adam and Eve were created - not born. No human had sinned b4 them becuz they were first earthlings. Satan had already sinned, but he is a fallen angel and only an angel - not a man and certainly not God (I said that for his benefit - he can read). However, Adam and Eve did eventually sin and every human being that been on earth starting with their sons Cain and Able, were born into sin - that includes Mary. Mary was not immaculately conceived and she was saved by the blood of Jesus.

So we know the woman in Revelation is Israel --- a Jewish Israel. She wears the very early symbols given to Jacob and the tribes. This is about as Jewish as it gets.

Brother means kinsmen in Hebrew. Acts 1:12-15 states the gathering of Jesus's brothers, about 120 of them. Rom. 9:3 - Paul uses "brethren" and "kinsmen" interchangeably. 2 Kings 10:13-14 King Ahaziah's 42 "brethren" were really his kinsmen.

Those who oppose the idea that Jesus had half-brothers and half-sisters do so, not from a reading of Scripture, but from a preconceived concept of the perpetual virginity of Mary, which is itself clearly unbiblical: “But he (Joseph) had no union with her (Mary) until she gave birth to a son. And he gave Him the name Jesus”

1 Chron. 13:9-10 - this is another account of Uzzah and the Ark. For God to dwell within Mary the Ark, Mary had to be conceived without sin. For Protestants to argue otherwise would be to say that God would let the finger of Satan touch His Son made flesh. This is incomprehensible.

Uniqueness of Mary as the Mother of God
Gen. 3:15, Rev. 12:1, John 2:4, 19:26, Isaiah 7:14; Matt. 1:23 I particularily like these verses becausea virgin (the Greek word used is "parthenos") will bear a Son named Emmanuel, which means "God is with us." John 1:14 - God in flesh dwelt among us. Mary is the Virgin Mother of God.
Luke 1:38 - Mary's fiat is "let it be done to me according to thy word." Mary is the perfect model of faith in God.

Our Lord is a King; therefore His Mother is a Queen. She is Blessed among ALL women and is in Heaven with her beloved Son Jesus Christ. She is the Queen of Heaven. When the Archangel Gabriel came to Mary and exclaimed: "Hail! Full of grace!", I refuse to believe that it was as if she was some lucky winner of a sweepstakes. "Mary, Mary, Mary! You hit the jackpot!". I don't think so...
Mary's Immaculate Conception, as well as The Redemption, were prefigured by God in Genesis, after the Original Sin.

@TenderTrap86 God has a dispute with us because of sin. Sin is described in the Bible as transgression of the law of God (1 John 3:4) and rebellion against God (Deuteronomy 9:7; Joshua 1:18). God hates sin, and sin stands between all of us and Him. “There is no one righteous, not even one” (Romans 3:10). witch is why only jesus can stand before god for us mary cannot stand before god in our behalf she is not out mediator there is only one! and his name is jesus

@auzziesoceroo That would seem very logical if there wasn't one detail missing - the evidence that she was immaculately conceived as Jesus Christ was. I'd be happy to accept it if there was such a passage, but Scripture undoubtedly doesn't support this theory. If it was important that she be immaculately conceived to bare the Messiah, surely I would have made note of that in the Scriptures if I were God.

Isn't being conceived by "original sin" a stain on all? We are created by original sin - the only one to not have that stigma is Christ Jesus, no? How can Mary be "immaculate" in that sense?

@haojiesheng.. He is using a lot of verses (out of context) to promote worship of the demon called mary. If this was "ok" with God/ not against the word of God, why isn't is found in scripture to make idols to mary, to sing to her, to pray to her, etc. and further why didn't Jesus or at least one of the apostles tip us off that mary would be appearing from time to time to tell crazy folks to worship her even more. Why? Because it is not of God! Satan has you worshipping the demon called mary!

@JOAOBUNITAO Only YHWH himself was the BVM's savior. The BVM didnt even need Jesus at all. Unlike us, we needed him, not her. Archangel Gaberial himself says that she is "full of GRACE" and none of us are FULL of grace. And if she already was filled with grace before Jesus was even born, then she didnt need him to die for her. We say we have grace NOW because of his death and ressurection, but she was full of grace months before he was even born. Noone in history was full of grace but the BVM!

Mary is full of grace before the incarnation and death of Jesus on the cross Luke 1:28. To be full of grace is to be both saved and completely, exceptionally holy Romans 6:14, Ephesians 2:8-10. Mary is begotten by God and his seed remains with her therefore she cannot sin and the evil one cannot touch her Luke 1:28,35,38; 1 John 3:9; 5:18.

From scripture alone one can't find evidence for the immaculate conception. But looking at the Gospels Mary's role grows from Mark to Luke. And if one see's the immaculate conception as Mary as the 1st christian to be redeemed by Christ, then the immaculate conception is consent with the NT. One of the many problems with Mary's IC (other than it isn't biblical) is that Rom 3:23 is a reference to our nature, not a specific sin. We have fallen short of God's glory, every one of us including Mary. So, yes, all have fallen short; you, me, babies and of course Mary. I notice the video never mentioned Lk 1:28 which is the classic verse to prove mary's IC. She is favored, we all agree. But not full of grace, or sinless. Only Jesus is without sin.

As for where I got my bible..uh, it wasn't from the rcc sorry to say. Your canon was established at Trent. The fact is, there is very little in scripture about Mary. Your church as gone far beyond what is written about her against 1Cor 4:6. Put the videos away and pick up your bible.
