all hes doing is playing through like the same chord progression, but changing the melody/inversions of the chords to add variety.

Yeah it can be depending on the difficulty. Anyone can take a melody they already know and mess around with it...but someone that can sit down and make a whole new song work truly has a gift.

Also, i can't concentrate in the left hand, so I just do matching arpeggios that accent the right hand. Do you have any other echniques that might help with the left hand? (totally open question)
