Teaching is great...if you are CREATIVE...and can work with all types of kids in all types of situations...it's all possible....the good, the bad...but mostly it's good....this cartoon is bogus....
My Dad tells me to get a job as an elementary teacher because it's apparently easy and I get a lot of vacation.
He must not get any of the local news channels that state that teachers are being laid off moreso now than ever before and it would be a huge waste of money to go to college for a teaching job, even if it was what I really want in my life.
Whoever thinks teaching elementary ed is easy because the curriculum isn't very challenging must be completely oblivious to the difficulties of communicating with and winning the attention of a large group of young children, containing a large subset of students who don't want to be there. If you want to teach at all, then the easiest path right now is to specialize in math or one of the physical sciences at the secondary ed level.
I want to get a job as a high school social studies teacher, but I'm not a star-y eyed idealist. I'm cynical and I feel as if this is the only job I could do. I'm not going to lie, the breaks are a big reason I want to teach. I want to major in history anyway, so why not get a job teaching fundamentals for a livable wage, while trying to make it fun for the kids. Do you think those are bad reasons to be a teacher? <- sincere question. Here's to hoping I dont get shanked by some ghetto kids (:
i find it funny how everyone overseas complains how teachers are underpaid. In australia teachers starting salary is $60 000. With yearly increments to almost "$90 000". a.k.a, awesome pay, awesome holidays and good lifestyle. if u wanna be a teacher, Australia is the place to be :)
@Snagrit yeah if you're in it for the pay. I mean let's not stay home and help our own kids; let's not solve the problems in our own country (sarcasm there).

I'm neither a naive idealist nor someone who took the job for the Summers off. Walk a mile in the shoes of someone who teaches 5 different subjects in a high school with 2000 students. Good luck.
This vid applies to secondary school teachers too. Naive idealists who want to change the world simply will not cut it as teachers. Also, people who want to be the "cool teacher" that every student in the school likes.
I wouldn't want to try teaching in public schools its just scary thought. I taught in vbs and sunday school and that wasn't near as fun as I thought. I also worked as summer camp counslor it dosen't take genius if you put rowdy summer school kids into class room for 8 hours minus lunch break the results aren't pretty. I feel bad for all teachers teaching in a public school and more so for the ones working with the ones with behavioral problems

You have a good point and I would encourage anyone who wants to do something to remember that the true reward in life is not always glamorous, that the hardships in life are terrible and they're only rewarding if you love what you do and that you have to use reason. Wanting to become a teacher is great but only if you want to do it to help others and not for stupid reasons like getting winter and summer break off or because you saw it in a movie and didnt understand it.
@GodblesstheCutieclub I think it was just to those people who don't really think anything through when they say they want to be a teacher. While it isn't bad to want to be a teacher, you do have to realize that theres one big thing if you want to teach. You have got to be ready to handle asshole kids and stick with them through the year. It's true if you want to teacher elementary, junoir high, or high school. The only diffrence is that one is to be expected, and one is to do with growing up
