  • Her real name is Myroslava Lastivka Lydia Luciw NOT Jadwiga Zakrzewski.

  • I remember watching this after school doing my homework.

  • OMG!! I got my first taste of music videos from this show!! Thanks for uploading it!!

  • Does anybody remember when there was a video show on CBC called Coming Attractions before Video Hits came into existence?

  • "Samantha Taylor" is indeed tragically deceased, and Toronto Star's Pages of the Past will prove it with her obituary.

  • @MuscleJacker what happened

  • Ms. Zakrzewski died in a house fire? What year did that happen..

Big Hair in the 80's, was this a gel related accident by chance?

  • Comment removed

  • not dead you ultradouche.

  • No, Samantha The Media Whore would talk and talk and talk over the entire introduction to songs, while you head it faintly in the background. Some songs, like Hall & Oates' "Maneater", have an AMAZING intro, and she TALKED RIGHT OVER IT.

  • If I remember correctly, they wouldn't even play the entire video

  • Did you see the Rick Mercer Report last week? It was a rerun, yet he gave a brief mention of the "late 80's hipstress" Samantha Taylor. If you don't believe she's dead, JUST CHECK WITH THE CBC.

  • I saw her in Edmonton late last year.

  • not only did this show introduce a lot of people to these songs without having cable tv, but it also introduced a lot of songs that other stations didn't touch...now, does anyone remember a band called The Works?...they had a song called Dancing on a Wing...post it if you do...

  • I remember when thriller came on and i was in high school and my mother went stomping over to the television and said no monsters you can't watch it.

    LOL

  • I do not know the source.

  • Her real name was "Myroslava Lastivka Lydia Luciw", not "Jadwiga" as the uploader is saying. So if he got her real name wrong, the "tragic house fire" story is probably wrong as well.

  • Samantha Taylor, R.I.P.

  • @mrceleb2006

She lives. Check wikipedia. It wouldn't let me post the link. =)

  • @mrceleb2006

    She lives. =)

  • She drooled (sucking on a lollypop) on my entry form back in '81 at a Electronics show (when she worked for Q107) HA!!! I should had kept it!!!

  • Holy smokes, this takes me back, Wow. Thanks for posting.

  • Oh man, coming home and turning this on hoping against hope that Sam would play a U2 video from The Joshua Tree or settling for Duran Duran...*sigh* those were the days.

  • there was no other host! she was the only one up tell it got cancelled!

  • @sb2hot there were two hosts after her - Samantha Taylor hosted the program from its inception, then Bryan Elliott hosted from 1989 to 1991, and Dan Gallagher hosted from 1991 to 1993 - Dan moved onto Much Music after that

  • @sponger Dan Gallagher was already on Much Music before he hosted Video Hits.

  • @sb2hot I remember another host after Samantha Taylor.

  • @

sb2hot . not rue .. there was another host of she left the show ... she even guess co host when the new host took over ..

  • Im wondering who was the other hosts after her was? she was awesome!

  • @MuscleJacker Sauce?

  • @walrusgiggles Check the paper, bub! The CBC even issued a press release.

  • @MuscleJacker Source?

  • @MuscleJacker I had no idea she had died...so sad

  • @MuscleJacker

Are you sure she's dead? Wikipedia has a date of birth, but there's no indication she's deceased. I also Googled this and found no proof she's dead.

You need to provide a source, otherwise I don't believe it.

  • @MuscleJacker

She's alive and well (and looking great!)

Look her up on Facebook: Samantha Taylor Bojeczko.

  • @MuscleJacker No way! She's still alive as far as I know.

  • @MuscleJacker I think you've got your people mixed up. She's very much alive.

  • @MuscleJacker

    I don't think so.

  • @lcole1926 Read the newspapers, Icicle1926!

  • @MuscleJacker

you're an idiot. no where does it say that she's dead. and my name is not Icicle

  • @lcole1926 I read your name as Icicle--so sorry. It was an honest mistake. Jadwiga did die in a tragic house fire, and CBC even have a plaque dedicated to her in their downtown studio.

  • @MuscleJacker can you please post the link to ANYTHING that says she's dead. Because I can't find any mention of it anywhere except HERE from your comment. Because if this was true I'm sure there would be an article somewhere and I would be interested in reading it. Thank you.

  • @MuscleJacker Myroslava Lastivka Lydia Luciw is Samantha Taylor's real name...

  • @CanScor74 I am sorry CanScor, but you didn't go to school with her.

  • @MuscleJacker Wrong. Sam Taylor is still very much alive and her birth name is Myroslava Lastivka Lydia Luciw.

  • @MuscleJacker Huh?

  • @MuscleJacker

    your joking?!

  • @MuscleJacker

It's so sad for you that you're completely fucking nuts.

  • @MadHighway It's so sad that her kids will once again be without their mother this Christmas.

  • Wow, CBC really went out on a limb to get that title sequence made. Holy crackers.

  • OMG love the memories:)

  • such a different time . . . I remember this being one of the ONLY ways I could watch videos when I was 7 or 8 . . . . now you can see any video for almost any song you want at any time - which is good and bad

  • blast from the past!

  • Let me clarify, Samantha is alive and well, and she is a successful real estate agent in the Greater Toronto area in Canada, she has two daughters, both of them are gorgeous models.

  • She is also a dreamy fornicator

  • @lilwildhorse She can't be a successful real estate agent if she's burnt to a crisp.

  • @lilwildhorse Does she still read or expect any fan mail? I would love to write (yes, write!) her a letter!

  • Haven't seen this in 20 years. Thanks for posting.

Anybody know what Samantha Taylor is doing nowadays?

  • That's terrible. I had absolutely no idea.

  • Where did you get that information, I've checked on internet and cannot find anything.

  • wow this brings me back, luv u sam

  • OMG..memories of afterschools in the 80's all begin here.

  • @ghostgrabber I couldn't agree more!! I miss the 80's

  • @ghostgrabber Especially when that was all a lot of us had because there was only CBC & CTV when you didn't have cable.

  • Comment removed

  • @landrykkb I grew up, here, in the Detroit Area, w/ no cable, lol. Had to tune into CBET-9, in Windsor, to get my video fix! The picture wasn't always crystal clear, but it was better than nothing! :)

  • @daisee1010 Especially when the internet didn't exist and the TV was one of the last resorts of entertaining yourself.

  • u should be ashamed. sam brought hope and enlightment to many starstruck teens in the 80's. i will always love her. long live sam...

  • I am shocked. I didn't know that Jade had died. Her ex-husband and I work together and he never mentioned it.

  • what? samantha taylor died?

  • ha ha...now i get it. hmmmm. samantha is alive and well...i hope!

  • Jade is still alive. Just career-dead.

  • i thought you were sam's #1 fan. i am disappointed now...

  • i saw the pointer sistes last nite...

  • Where? With Issa? Did they do "Fairytale" and "How Long (Betcha Got a Chick on the Side)"?

  • ha ha...i thought you meant jane siberry who is now known as issa. but yes, issa was the third member. they did not do those songs but looked great in their floor length chiffon and later, sequined blouses and flaired pants...

  • I sooo wanted to bang her........

  • She's so wooden and awkward

  • It wasn't her fault. It was the producer Sandra Faire's dippy cardboard script. Jade would often tell me that she felt stilted reading from such amateur copy. Jade was certain Sandra wrote it on the drive to the studio.

  • Who is Jade?

  • Jade is Samantha Taylor's real name. It's short for Jadwiga Zakrzewski.

  • Well, I can understand that, Sandra Faire is and was a bitch. Amazing how someone of such little talent is now a bigwig at CTV.

  • omg im rember this show i use to watch this at home after school sam taylor rules

  • She really enjoyed performing oral sex on Stu Jeffries.

  • how tacky...

  • Oh my goodness! Remember when she used to say " O.K. all you Whammies and Duranies..." Fond memmories, thanks for sharing!

  • DAN was the man !

  • Groovy graphics

  • I used to watch this with my sister after school...one of my favorite videos was "Take On Me" by A-Ha...vivid memories.

  • good times

  • 5:30 p.m. nst from 1984 to 1986! the good ol' days...

  • I always hated these "suddenly, interrupted" openings. The worst were when "Samantha" would be caught on camera mid-sip from a mug. She twice mispronounced artists' names on air, *specifically* when she was giving the audience a pronunciation lesson. Cases in point: about the (then trio) Bros, she said that they pronounced their name "broze" and about Polish singer Basia, she said her name was pronounced "bassy-ah". Thank God she didn't try Basia's surname.

  • so, they are actually pronounced "bross" and "baws-yah"?

  • "Bross" and "Basha".

"Samantha" Taylor loved to introduce the final video of the day, then play only two seconds of it before the show went off the air. I was late for work waiting for 'til tuesday's "Love in a Vacuum", which I saw all 3 seconds of. Thanks "Sam".

  • i won so much stuff on that. especially on the friday giveaway...lol

  • I won a Simple Minds T-shirt and a UK picture disc album of Once Upon A Time.

  • they ran out of ghetto blasters one week and ended up sending me a complete stereo system. high quality! and, i just saw a "simply red" picture disc this weekend at a flea market for "holding back the years"...gotta love picture discs...i think i have to go back and get it...

  • There was even a companion "Video Hits" book, about only fifty pages long with screen saves from all the best videos of the mid-eighties. Two downsides of this pamphlet-disguised-as-a-book were the gaps of empty space left on every page reserved for your "notes", plus a horrific photo inside of "Samantha" (not her real name) herself, with mascara a la Divine in "Pink Flamingos". Quite a freakish woman ("Samantha") if you ask me.

  • it's not her real name? really? and the pic did not do her justice? no way? i met her a few times and she was very glam!!! tastefully dressed and very personable...i think the fall of 1985 was the worst for videos and music in general...i.e: arcadia, dream academy, sly fox, the outfield, and that garbage by starship. but, i think video hits felt that had to play it...

  • Her birth name is Jadwiga Zakrzewski. No kidding. No wonder she chose "Samantha" Taylor. (Taylor was her first husband's surname.)

  • Actually her birth name is Myroslava Lastivka Lydia Luciw. But still, I can see why she chose Samantha Taylor, LOL!

  • Don't believe everything you read on Wikipedia. We used to call her "Jade" (short for "Jadwiga") in high school.

  • Comment removed

  • Try again. I went to high school with her and I have five yearbooks with her mug in it. In every one she is Jadwiga Zakrzewski however in three of these yearbooks she signed her name as Jade Zakrzewski. She appears in the gymnastics club photo and the girls' track team as Jade Zakrzewski however.

  • Comment removed

  • Jadwiga says "Hi", and asks you to leave her alone. She is sick of you.

  • Jade has been following this on-line exchange ever since I told her about it a few days ago. She thinks MyMan37 is a riot!

  • the 1/2 hr. editions for one specific act annoyed me...1/2 hr. of duran duran with the same vid played at the opening and close...annoying...but same still rocked!

  • OMG! Honeymoon Suite! Expo 86!!

  • Oh.....MY..........GOD!!!! I used to watch this show ALL THE TIME!!! Man I miss it!!! Yes and Derekmimi I agree, it is amazing how many of those artists appearing on the theme are still around. It goes to show you what GREAT music the 80's had!! LONG LIVE THE 80'S!!!!!!!

  • agreed. long live "video hits"...

  • omg i rember this show i missed this show

  • I went to Expo 86 when I was 11

  • isn't it amazing that most of the artists featured in the montage are still around? except for spandau ballet...

  • Oh...My...GOD!!! Boy this takes me back. Used to LOVE this show!

  • sam will go down in canadian broadcast history! long live sam...

  • oh my goodness watching this again reminds me of my crazy days and nights watching music videos and avoiding homework!!!

  • is there anyway we can get samantha to appear SOMEWHERE, ANYWHERE!!! on a sort of nostalgic cbc program. loved sam! on one edition, she played "time don't run out on me (by anne murray), and, "i want you back" (by sherry kean). loved that edition in the spring of `1984 for sure. sam rocked...

  • please go onto canada's walk of fame website and nominate her for a star.

  • really? how?

  • I met her a few times. She let me meet Madonna's publicist Liz Rosenberg.

Samantha was a very nice lady and I appreciate her kindness towards me. I hope she is well these days.

  • @artwithinme Didn't Liz die last nite? I heard it on the radio this morning.

  • Cool! Forgot about this show until I was looking up 'Toronto Rocks!!!' Then the name 'Video Hit's' came to me and the name Samantha Taylor. These clips so make me long for the days of daily weekday video shows and when you could turn on MuchMusic and see a music video almost any time of the day. Not the bunch of crap they show now. Back when Erica Ehm, Chrisopher Ward, Michael Williams, Terri David Mulligan, J.D. Roberts were hosting and I believe Denise Donolon was running the show.

  • I remember this!

I was ten or eleven years old and everyday I would watch this after school at 5:00 P.M, daily.

    I loved this show!

  • I loved this show as a teenager. I also liked Good Rockin Tonite and the Kids variety show Switchback. Everything is so nostaligiac. As a Detroiter, I have to thank the CBC executives in Toronto for giving everyone in Michigan something else to look at besides Reagan TV. And believe me, I'm a Patriot. Bravo guys and gals. Please post more golden age 80's tv from CBC.

  • I so wanted to be her when I was little. hehe I even owned a Video Hits sweat shirt which I received for one of my Birthdays. Nice blast from the past.

  • Wow. That was a serious wave of nostalgia right there. Damn near knocked me unconscious.

(but wow, were the video graphics really that bad!?!)

  • holy shit! this is where i first saw new edition

  • This was the show that I first saw Samantha Fox "Touch Me" video. The next day at my high school during first period history class a fellow classmate stood up and asked "Who watched Video Hits yesterday?" To which all the guys in the class responded "SAMANTHA FOX!!!"

Funny how things jog your memory.

  • This is an edition from the Spring of 1986. That intro had been used for two years prior...

  • Oh my god! Video Hits!! I forgot about this show.

  • hey, so that's my mom eh. i'm completely serious :), her new name is samantha bojeczko, and she still looks great.

  • That is your mother? What an honour. I met her in November, 1986 at the CBC office (Yonge and College in Toronto). It was a Friday afternoon. She was getting off. We sat and talked about the Canadian music scene, Duran Duran, Pat Benatar and Roxy Music for about an hour. It was one of the most exciting days of my teen years. She gave me a signed 8" x 10". She was so classy! Two years later, I met her at Air Canada counter in St. John's, Newfoundland where I was working.

  • Could you ask your mom if she remembers the dude who invited her to Expo '86, and to pretend to be my older sister? I'm feeling much better now!

  • ok i was lookin up samantha taylor the one on the bus fight and stuff and this showed um lmao wtf!

  • OMFG me too.

  • Samantha Taylor....."whistful sigh".......

  • This was my favorite video show in those days! :) The 80s ROCKED!!!

  • This is priceless. Those graphics were ahead of their time.

  • Good ol' Sam. Used to check this out after school back in the day.

  • I met her at WEM ages ago & she was so nice. she was having lunch with a friend & I went to her table to tell her how much I love Video Hits & she was nice & patient with me. Watching this clip brings back the memories. Please come back Sam.

  • what is "wem"? does she work there? do you know of any way to send her a note???

  • west edmonton mall. No she doesn't work there & I have no idea how to get in contact with her.

  • no no...take tracy melchor's job...

  • These were the good ol' days and I miss 'em!

  • samantha taylor was one of my fave cbc personalities. she was very much for the moment for this time in cbc programming. i bet she is still a real lady! i had the pleasure of meeting her many times...and besides she even played the anne murray video for time don't run out on me (1984).

  • this was a great show..those days were fun..miss them a lot...

samantha was great...whenever i would write to her, she always wrote back, and always took the time to answer any questions i had..

wherever she is, hope she is doing well.

  • Sam Taylor where have u gone?? Take Tanya Kim's job!!

  • i agree!

  • I haven't seen this show since I was 5!
