I have this video card and I have a question. Some games it runs perfectly but some have poor frame rate. For example when I run Battlefield 3 on ultra it runs only at 30 fps (fraps shows that) when I run it on high it runs at 60fps. Also Arma 2 runs choppy for me. Windows rating gave it high numbers, The only thing that's low is my hard drive which is 5.9. Could hard drive cause my problems?

@acemace3618 well the gtx 480 is about the same price as the 580, but the 580 is much cooler, consumes less and has better performance. and if you have a card like a gtx 460 you can buy another one PLUS an sli motherboard for about the same price or less than the 560ti 2gb or gtx 480/580(at least where i live). of course, you should check if you have a powerfull enough power supply :) a gtx 460 sli beats the 580 and 480 hands down and you also have the advanteges of sli :>

@acemace3618 a single gtx 460 1gb can play all the games on max except the witcher 2 and on dx11. the gtx 400 series and gtx 500 all have dx11. and i'm not saying this from some websites, i have the evga gtx 460 1gb and i can tell you i'm very pleased with it. on sli the performance will double(not that i have sli, this im telling you from websites), so you will play 99.9% of games on max with 60 fps, the other 0.1% you will play at about 40.

@jeggeggo It's possible but if you are talking about the 470 + 480 then those two are not compatible with each other.

Basically if you have a gtx 480 and a gtx 470 you can not. they have to have the same amount of ram and same processor. so its very thin on when it comes to mixing graphic cards. I heard you can on certain ones but i dont know which ones that will be. go to slizone and they can tell you pretty much everything you need to know.

I don't know if any of this is accurate of what I'm about to say but I'm under the understanding that Nvidia cards can only do either AA filtering or AF filtering at once whereas ATI cards can do both at the same time. That being the case can I get one GTX480 dedicated for AA filtering and another dedicated to AF filtering? I have seen something similar done where a guy had a seperate card dedicated to PhysX plus a seperate GPU. Just asking if this is the case if and I can do that.

@kadmany I would say 1 year max settings on everything getting FPS of 35+ on a single card. If you go SLI you would get better performance. The GTX400 series scales much better and work much faster in SLI configurations than single card counterparts.

@kadmany With a few CPU upgrades probably over 2016. But in all seriousness by that time there will be a single cpu who will be better, consume lower and cost less. There is no point in getting more than 1 GPU at a time since most software wont support it anyway(or have it implemented late).
