The Dalai Lama does not want independence but autonomy within China. This is a major point people tend to ignore. The world map at the United Nations in 1945 shows Tibet as China, four years before the People's Republic of China was created. I highly recommend that you search "Battle of China" in Youtube and watch that U.S. government-commissioned documentary from 1944. After 3 minutes, it shows how the US saw China's territory. The CIA helped Tibet only to fight communism and then dumped it.

According to most western sources, Tibet has been a part of China since the 1728. Years latter in the 1900s, the histories became complicated and different sources has different claims. The Tibetans declared Independence for number of years and some claimed that Tibetans were instigated by the British After the communist government took control of China, Tibet was reclaimed.

@tigerjonn It seems to me that the 14th Dalai Lama is a fairly complex person and he seems to be involved with politics. What many people don't understand is us Chinese aren't build up of a single race. In Chinese, we called ourselves 中华民族 which means united ethnics of China. The genetic differences between someone from Canton and Beijing has less similarity than between someone from Tibet and Beijing. Even tough Cantonese and Pekingese are both classified Han Chinese.

I went to a similar protest in Chicago and I can tell you these people are some of the highest educated people in the U.S. (and the world of course). Most of them were post-doc, PhD students, MBA students, and undergrads from U of Chicago, Northwestern, UIC, etc.

The Dalai Lama does not want independence but autonomy within China. This is a major point people tend to ignore. The world map at the United Nations in 1945 shows Tibet as China, four years before the People's Republic of China was created. I highly recommend that you search "Battle of China" in Youtube and watch that U.S. government-commissioned documentary from 1944. After 3 minutes, it shows how the US saw China's territory. The CIA helped Tibet only to fight communism and then dumped it.

According to most western sources, Tibet has been a part of China since the 1728. Years latter in the 1900s, the histories became complicated and different sources has different claims. The Tibetans declared Independence for number of years and some claimed that Tibetans were instigated by the British After the communist government took control of China, Tibet was reclaimed.

What many people don't understand is us Chinese aren't build up of a single race. In Chinese, we called ourselves 中华民族 which means united ethnics of China. The genetic differences between someone from Canton and Beijing has less similarity than between someone from Tibet and Beijing. Even tough Cantonese and Pekingese are both classified Han Chinese.

I went to a similar protest in Chicago and I can tell you these people are some of the highest educated people in the U.S. (and the world of course). Most of them were post-doc, PhD students, MBA students, and undergrads from U of Chicago, Northwestern, UIC, etc.

It's not racism to criticise Chinese because it has nothing to do with the colour of their skin. It's their culture. Chinese never intervene in other peoples "problems". They take care of themselves. I travelled to China and I was always pushed in front of in queues from the moment I arrived at the airport - very rude, nasty and aggressive. No kindness in their service or manner. Spitting and shouting always. They have no problem doing business with corrupt countries. I'll never go back there.

I didn't even mention Tibet. These people were protesting in favour of the Chinese government who do a lot of disgusting things without even mentioning Tibet. I thought that a student visa specifys you aren't allowed to take part in rallys?

I have lived in China before, people there enjoys a considerable comfortable life with consdierable freedoms, people there don't concern about Human Rights or freedom of speech, they just want to work hard and earn enough money to support their family, and thats what the government is providing them, economic and social security. The "disgusting" things you talk about was never supported with solid evidence, and thats what angers Chinese, accusing China over things that has no evidence to show.

I know my chinese neighbors who came from china less then 2 years ago. I know my TIBETAN friends, who ive also talked with about the issue. Ive read books on china, falun gong, and the CCP.
