  • Ah, Ben Bernie... What an era for music... Thanks Maestro, yowsha....

  • beautiful

  • I thought the Leo Reisman was the only tasteful American version of this. The Ol' Maestro called it right on this chestnut!

  • 5***** X 5*****!

  • @sbd650 agree ROGHARM his sister in law elsie berne was my library teacher in queens nyc in ps 125 which gave the world james caan. i have phot him with me a me age 2 he 7. adrian rollini's wife was my art teacher in ps 125. and years before judy holliday attended ps 125. the famous violinist attended ps 125 barry finclair the child prodigy who appeared with leonard berstein.

  • There are many recordings of this great piecee but this is one of the most hauntingly beautiful.

  • In true this is the Polish song ! and the title is : " całuję twoją dłoń madame"

  • The Roosevelt has been restored I wonder if the halls still echo with the music of this wonderful era..........

  • Wow, so beautiful so ethereal...

  • I have a copy of the purple sheet music shown at 1:30. It's very attractive.

  • Recorded in March 1929...

  • Ben Bernie's orchestra played exclusively at the Hotel Roosevelt in Manhattan from its opening in September, 1924, until 1929.

  • You have Rudy Valentino(swoon) there (last photo) from "Four Horsemen Of The Apocalypse" (silent film) kissing the hand of pretty Alice Terry! Good show! Thanks!

  • Thanks for posting this! Great version. If you ever find Spike Jones version...the last line is: "I kiss your hand, Madame, because i can't stand your breath".

  • It is the garlic that prompted the Spike Jones version.

  • Wow this is a superb version!

  • I assume that its Richard Tauber in the picture. He recorded this too, Great song and vocal.

  • The Roosevelt Hotel I know is in the heart of New York, but perhaps there's another in H'wood.

On another note, the kissing of a woman's hand is so charmingly European; funny it should take on an American accent.

  • Another of my favorites ....Thank God the Roosevelt Hotel was restored so much history there....it's in the heart of Hollywood....
