  • I came.

  • Good work man! Outstanding technique. I love it!

  • I originally played like this (though my fingers are a little more parallel in terms of the strings) and then stopped because all the other bass players in high school told me it was retarded. But now I've switched back and it's amazing how much better it feels! Nice to see someone else out there with similar technique.

  • great "work" man! (hate to consider playing as work)

could u post the tabs or notes or send them to me? that'dd be awesome ;)

    greetings from leipzig

  • awesome!

  • this looks strikingly similar to victor wootens double thumb technique

  • mais um grande groove. obrigado pela liçao!

  • Awsome!!!!! Would love to see you do Bassline/ cover for the song"Forget me Nots" Huggz From Poppy in North Carolina USA

  • Look guys you must know I am a fan. I just know this technique to be challenging. But I think its what we maybe all be doing.

So there. I will still love my Rocco but this is another thing ...

  • this is cool man...

  • Marlowe thanks for all! you're helping me a lot with my bass playing! good videos! keep up the good work

  • I hope you don't go down this road too much. Its a tricky technique. For the punters that love you, you may lose some.

  • Well, i intend to go down this road a lot (not necessarily on all my youtube videos), but i cant see how that would "scare" of people:-D

  • Cool! Not necessarily a technique foe me but I like it.

  • I disagree. I think that you always have to look towards your next challenge and i cant wait to "master" this technique. It may take a while but what a buzz when i can play to a similar standard as this.

  • It's not like Marlowe's trying to convert to this technique. Look at his videos, he plays heavy rock with the pick, to difficult john patittuci jazz! Usually bassists from these genres look down on eachother, but Marlowe's just continuing to expand his knowledge of the different techniques out there!

    Mad respect.

  • @blunt1 you be crazy this is some funk ass shit. I love it. on my 3rd day of practicing it. finally getting somewhere.

  • I just love your white guitars tone! (is that fender j-bass or custom?)

  • Marcus Miller Jazz Bass.

  • Marlowe is a bass beast!! Very nice groove!!

  • Stellar! Thanks Marlowe!

  • This "Matt Garrison" technique is possibly the new evolution of bass guitar playing. I mean thousands of posts at talk bass etc. Di Piazza takes it to a whole new level. I still like the Rocco approach but hey learn all the techniques. Thanks again MarloweDK.

  • Sometimes we can get too hung up on technique and the latest fad however. It's best to learn all you can of the basics, harmonic theory and ear training. You can't learn everything.

  • If you like this type of playing check out Dominique DiPiazza, one of Garrison's big influences. He's more Jazz and Flamenco but amazing just the same.

  • He was my initial inpiration

  • loved it that was smooth!

  • funkin sweet

  • thats sweet

  • Nam Nam !!!!

    -lennart

  • Man, I dig that. I'll have to come back, learn it, record it, and then give you the props. Bravo!

  • Hey Marlowe if you get the chance, can you personal message me the tabs for the first riff if you get the chance?

    Tak.

  • He won't send out tabs. He tries to get you to listen, and watch the video to learn. Good luck.

  • He teaches for a living so do you really think he is gonna send you tabs.

  • Got to thank you once again for being a superb inspiration and teacher for all this time. :D

  • funky as hell

  • Good stuff. Very funky use of a solid technique :-)

  • MarloweDK - do you play fretless? Cheers from Actooon

  • Very cool stuff.

  • very funky :)

    must try it.

thanks Marlowe you are the best.

  • Excellent playing. You seem to have every Funky bass technique down. While I can play that using fingers only it certainly does look easier and cleaner adding your thumb to the mix. It's something I never mastered. I don't have time to learn everything and concentrate instead on practicing scales all over the neck. The thing I like most about playing an instrument is you never stop learning. Do you ever play any complex Jazz walking lines?

  • No, jazz is not my ball game, love to listen to it once in a whilee and can (fake) walk to chord changes, but you say - one has to prioritize

  • Great technique Marlowe... it's very similar to the old blues players (Albert Collins etc). Hybrid style. I've never tried it but i'm going to start now after watching how funky you make it sound! Thanks

  • Albert Collins is my favorite blues player, so yes;-)

  • good job !
