  • e bow :O

  • Comment removed

  • thanks

  • whats the best e bow for electric guitar

  • @locotio The one I am using. It's called the "Ebow Plus" or sometimes "Plus Ebow". Just search "ebow plus". It may be the only one in production. It's the one put out by the inventor of the ebow. They go for around 90.00 Great fun!

  • @Dasweblol Thanks!. Look up "EBow Guitar 01" and "EBow Guitar 02" for some electric ebow awesomeness!

  • hahahaha youre so fuck

  • @Camcrazy530 Nice English! I think you meant to say, "You're so fucking AWESOME." Thank you!

  • hmm ok

  • yes i found the beginnin and end quite akward and creepy

  • @jma111000 I blame it all on the pain medication from my operation....

  • @Chadfish Ticklesperm???????????????!!

  • I feel you, buddy. I've got trucks going in the background, too.

  • at first I was like "yey, another lefty!"

    then I was sad

  • @willwelsh816 Actually I am a lefty! But for some reason I play right handed.

  • nice bedroom

  • @dimscarecrow It's not mine. I was staying at my mom's house as I recovered from a major neck surgery.

  • would it work with a nylon string guitar? i guess not?

  • @thtmusicloser No. The ebow needs steel to work.

  • that jam was vicodin

  • @Illjustwait Right on....

  • that jam was better than vicodin

  • Anyone else find the first 20 seconds extremely creepy?

  • @OldManArthur haha looks like it his voice at the beggining is kinda earatating

  • cool : )

  • OK, i am confused, does an ebow work for an acoustic guitar? and if so how?

and by "wound strings" you mean all except e and b right?

  • @PureZOOKS Right - it works on the B and high E strings. Somehow it generates an electromagnetic field that vibrates them. It just works a lot better on an electric.

  • @Chadfish it's just an amplifier that is deliberately in a feedback loop... like when you go too close to speakers with a microphone...

  • @Chadfish it works by outputting a frequency that vibrates the string, then that vibrating string affects an input coil which drives then gets generates a current that gets spit back out as the output frequency which started the string vibrating in the first place. It's called infinite sustain technology or something along those lines.

  • @PureZOOKS its probally an electric acoustic

  • @TheBobohj It is an electric acoustic, but that has nothing to do with why the ebow works on an acoustic. My guitar was not plugged in, and even if it was it has a piezo pickup in the bridge, not a magnetic pickup by the neck. An ebow will work on a totally acoustic guitar - mostly only on unwound, steel strings. It sort of worked on my wound G string.

  • I thought that would only work with electric guitars

  • @MasterOfRofl It works somewhat on the non-wound steel strings of an acoustic, as you can see. But it's designed for an electric. You use the neck pickup, humbucker preferably, with the volume & tone turned down to 2 or 3.

  • what kind of pick ups you are using??

and what kind of acoustic pick ups will be good with acoustic+ebow combination??

actually i have no idea of ebow but thinking of buying one for acoustic...

  • @aroy137 You don't need a pickup when using an ebow on acoustic guitar. I wasn't in this video. It works on the non-wound strings - sort of. With an electric guitar it's best to have humbucker pickups, and to use the neck pickup, with the tone and volume turned down to 2 or 3.

  • @Chadfish thanx a lot

  • smug weirdo playing quite good stuff

  • @bbking82 I think a more suitable description might be, "recovering from major neck surgery, and high on Vicodin weirdo playing quite good stuff".

  • @Chadfish Hahaha, you crack me up. awesom video.

  • A big high resolution camera in the bedroom. Good job! hehe

Good vibes by the way :)

  • @Chadfish i think because you got really close and didnt blink.

  • why was the beginning of that so weird?

  • When I read what an ebow actually does to the pickup I was bummed because I didn't think it would work on an acoustic, but clearly it does without anykind of pickup. I'm definitely getting one now.

  • i'm interested in using an ebow for acoustic, but am i hearing feedback through an amp or is your acoustic actually being played clean and recorded through a microphone? i don't play with an acoustic amp so i can't tell if it'll work for me

    thanks

  • @ThreeLeggedMongoose Hi. As you can see there is no cable plugged into the guitar. That's purely acoustic, and the audio is picked up by the mic you see on the camera. Yes I let it ring a little much, and it caused a rattle here and there. It works mostly on the B string. It's designed for electric guitars, but works a little on acoustic as you can see. I have 2 other ebow vids on electric that show the proper use of the thing...

  • @Chadfish I'll check those out. Thanks for replying to my rushed comment with awful grammar and organization and poor observation.

    Great playing!!!

  • @OldManArthur No I'm breathing.

  • ELTON JOHN WANNABE!

  • What strings were you using on this guitar? I have coated cleartone strings on my acoustic right now... would that work?

  • @zachaument I'm not sure if your strings would work. Probably if they are like the nanoweb stuff. I use Martin Acoustic SP Phosphor Bronze Light. An ebow is really for electric guitars. It only works well on a couple of strings on acoustic. Check my other 2 ebow vids to see it in use as it's intended.

  • @zachaument as long as its metal it should work :p unless its aluminum...which would be stupid....

  • Have you ever heard the intro of take it back by pink floyd? This kind of reminded me of it (considering that was the reason that I searched "E-bow acoustic" !)

  • @smelliot95 I have heard that! I did not know about it though when I came up with this piece. I think the similarity is in the tone of an acoustic being ebowed.

  • how much is an ebow?

  • @evonai like $80. i think...

  • Nice skills! Up until today I had only seen the brief e-bow review video on our channel, but after watching videos like this, I can really appreciate much more how the e-bow can be used. Keep up the good work, that was really cool!

  • @absolutemusicuk Thanks1 Check out the other 2 ebow videos on my channel. They are used in a more traditional way, but I was going off. There are trippy video effects too...

  • owww too much treble

  • stop drugs XD

  • you should just tell people the neck brace is a really hip scarf

  • 2:17 is freaking hilarious your face expression.. beyond that.. i like that ebow

  • cool thing, always wondered if it would work, can you hear it like two meters away from the guitar?

  • @superagnitio Yes you can hear it just as loud as if you played the guitar with a pick. Not so much on the wound strings.

  • Wow i've never heard a feed back type sound from an acoustic.

  • @DeathMetalMikey It's not feedback. It's an electromagnet held in my hand, vibrating the string. Pretty cool eh?

  • oh...sorry..lol no offense intended, your stuff sounded very cool

  • need a fret job on that B string......lol...but other than that very interesting and spacey.

  • @choumoumoumou I hear ya, but actually it was the ebow hitting the string when I pressed down too hard. My Taylor plays pretty nice when I'm not using strange toys on her!

  • @Chadfish speaking from the gutter here but that last sentence you said sounded humorously inappropriate.

  • @dllawson Hi. I'm not sure what you're referring to. At the end I say "Thank You" and at the end of the beginning I say, "I've got trucks going in the background". Some people think I said "drugs" though. Is that what you mean?

  • @Chadfish I think what dllawson meant was when you said your taylor plays nice when your not using strange toys on her

  • @TheWhaleTongueClub Oh! I get it now.... I'm a little slow.

  • @dllawson I like dick. Is that inappropriate?

  • @JOAPY You can like whatever you want friend.

  • @Chadfish Your the best. Great playing by the way. Love the "scarf".

  • So what do your dates think when they see that video camera on a tripod in your bedroom? Haha, just kidding, I'm sure you usually keep it hidden in the closet behind the one-way mirror. Cool playing by the way.

  • Very nice job. I was wondering if they worked acoustically. Now I know.

  • Does it work with nylon?......JUST kidding...that was great

  • very cool its always fun messing with an acoustic guitar with the ebow. I've made a few songs with the ebow you can check em out on my channel if you like

  • @ojnezer If you check out my Ebow playlist you'll find more exciting performances using the ebow as it's intended - with an electric guitar. The acoustic thing was just something I invented and was having a little fun with as I healed from major surgery. Sorry to bore you.

  • @Chadfish Don't apologize to the prick. This is absolutely awesome, I was blown away!

  • @Sylvanranger I know - what a douche! Glad you dug the tune. I have a higher quality version, as well as 2 more awesome ebow vids in a playlist on my channel. Check 'em out!

  • @Chadfish Sure thing mate. I'd be happy to.

  • umm...don't they still have em at musician's friend?

  • @synesthesia67 Um....probably. Why?

  • @Chadfish some dude in the list was wondering where to get one....so I was being a smartass...cool use of it, by the way!! kudos!! I have yet to figure out how to make a song with my ebow...but it makes some cool background noises fo sho!!!

  • @synesthesia67 You basically have to make a backing track first, or a whole song, and just use ebow as a solo instrument. I did a drum track first (check my other 2 ebow vids under 'playlists') then ebow, then bass.

  • @synesthesia67 Well, a good way of how to use it in a song, is With or without you by U2, if I remeber it right, the melodies heard in the backgorund is played with an E-bow

  • @Elazam You are correct!

  • @Elazam no, that was a special "infinite guitar" created by micheal brook. only 2 were made, and it has a pickup that feeds back and creates an infinite sustain

  • @jonahkemp Oh yeah! I remember that. I want the new Moog guitar that has a more advanced version of that. Search "Moog Guitar" on youtube and you'll hear the amazing sounds a player can create with it.

  • @jonahkemp

No, what Michael was using was a pickup more like a Fernandez sustainer. Michael supposedly invented the pickup but didn't patent it, for some reason, and l'm sure that devastated him.

Good stuff here, Chad. I like doing this with my Taylor in drop Db tuning so u can drone more strings instead of just the E.

Check out the first track that plays on my site. Its a Steinway with an E-bow on a PRS CE24.

    DavidBruceMusic . com

  • This is fantastic!

  • Well done, man! That was very enlightening!!!

  • Thanks for the input. Can't wait to try these on my Acoustic. :).

  • This is magnificient. I should sit around some trees while listening to this. I quiet like the wound strings with the Ebow from the sounds of this, sounds a bit sitar ish.

I 'm really thinking of getting these, but: How hard is it to find one? Hopefully its so rare as I think it is. I'm from Australia, but so far I've had luck finding a few good sites to order.

  • Check out my other 2 ebow vids:

"EBow Guitar 01 - Demo Lessons"

    "EBow Guitar 02 - Magnetic Wheel: EBow-Slide-Wah"

I tried to make a playlist, but it isn't showing up. It's not hard to fund one here. I use Musician's Friend. Get the "Plus Ebow" or "Ebow Plus" - however theysay it. The "plus" is a 2nd setting for more cool sounds. Cheers!

  • @Nick56708 brother I'm from aus too. get them from ebay if you can, or you can order them in through most commercial music stores. ebay's cheaper, but the postage may take a while.

  • I do believe David Gilmour uses an Ebow on an acoustic guitar in the song "Take it Back".

It has a clarinet-like sound on the acoustic guitar : )

  • That was pretty sweet man! Are EBow's hard to use? Because from what I've heard they're pretty complicated.

  • They are really made for electric guitars. If you already play guitar well, ebow is no problem. You use the neck pickup, turn the vol and tone down to about 30% and away you go. So worth it! Get one.

  • Yeah, I saw your other video that you sent me and it blew me away. And I've also seen a video of Phil Keaggy using one and that was amazing too (you gotta see it if you haven't already). But I'm definatly going to have to get myself one of these soon!

  • @Chadfish i plan on getting one as soon as possible! this video and the phil keaggy vid about the ebow make it totally worth the buy.

  • Thanks man! To celebrate 100,000 views on this vid, I am at this moment uploading a high-rez version of the video. It looks and sounds much better. Check back in an hour. And go buy an ebow!

  • Almost at 100,000 plays! Woo hoo!

  • 100,000 = One Hundred Thousand, NOT "a milion" you high school drop out. Ten more views and I'm there! Ha ha.

  • haha pretty cool *J*

  • sounds like a taqsim piece, means improv in arabic countries. i like the funny comments you display too...

  • It is an improv, so I guess it's a taqsim! Thanks.

  • Was your guitar plugged in?

  • No. All sound was picked up by the mic you can see on the camera. I had headphones going to the mixer under the camera, so I could hear if I was getting good audio. The ebow works mostly on the steel strings, not the wound. The sweet spot is the B string.

  • @Chadfish So you need flat wounds to make this thing work?

  • With acoustic guitars you just need steel strings. The wound strings don't work well this way, but flat wounds may just work better. It's mostly a B string thing on acustic. If the G wasn't wound it would work better. I hit the G string once or twice in this vid and it took longer to fade up and start resonating. On electric guitar all the strings work fine with round-wound.

  • @Chadfish Ok that makes more sense. How do you like the E bow? Is it as versitile as they look or do you end up getting limited by the sounds they make?

  • very pretty sounding. Your a trip my man

  • Any idea if an e-bow would work on piano strings?

  • Probably the non-wound piano strings would work. I can pretty much only do the E and the B strings on this guitar.

  • the buzzing from the frets actually isn't that bad... gives it kind of a sitar sound.

  • Exactly. I heard it and rolled with it.

  • the only thing i disliked is that your getting a buzzing sound on the guitar. is it just low action, and when ever you hit frets it just happens, or does it have something to do with the ebow itself?

  • Yes the ebow was causing the buzzing and odd notes. The guitar, when played normally, works perfectly. I hadn't developed any "acoustic ebow" style yet, as this was about 5 minutes after I discovered you could use an ebow on acoustic.

  • 0:18 "I got drugs doing in the background" lol XD

  • @joshyredpepper: Trucks?

  • I did say "Trucks". I was on drugs, but there were trucks driving by as well.

  • This Ebow excites me as a guitarist. What if i played slide while using an Ebow!? ^_^ !!

  • I already did that in my video titled, "EBow Guitar 02 - Magnetic Wheel: EBow-Slide-Wah"

Check it out. I have a total of 3 ebow videos.

  • I'm gonna have to try that now!

  • i never know about this think the Ebow is now for me like a piece of the futuree man

i never listn about that think

u play very very goood dude, it makes a perfect way to experiment new sunds its the 5 o clock in my country and i have between 3 hours learning of this think man im excitad i will have one 4 my bday

    YEEEEI!!!

  • I am happy you like the music. I have 2 more ebow videos on my channel. They are much better!

  • christmas is a-comin'

    You sir, are awesome.

  • Thank you! Make sure you get the "Ebow Plus" rather than just the "Ebow". The plus has 2 settings for more versatility.

  • wouldn't an ebow on an acoustic create insane feedback though?

  • As you can see it doesn't. All the ebow is doing is vibrating the string, and the sound comes out of the guitar body. Maybe if my guitar was plugged into an amp, and had no sound hole cover... But what you are hearing is totally acoustic, being picked up by that mic on the camera.

  • alright

  • I love it

  • This is AMAZINGLY awesome! 5/5

  • 215.. ;)

    Great video!

  • man..that sound is cool and i love your annotations!! :)

  • Looks like you really shred man! Check out my other 2 ebow vids in my uploads. They kick this one in the but.

  • Wiki search e-bow here i come

  • very ambient like, relaxing.

  • phantasm

  • That's a great movie...

  • That is fucking awesome!

  • Nice demo man! And surely the best use of annotations I've seen so far. Take care :)

  • Glad you dig it! I had to disarm the haters with the annotations.

  • This video always cracks me up. I love it. Plus its got trucks going on in the background.

  • I'm glad it gives you a chuckle!

  • dude i gotta say those are som nice sounds.

i'm getting an ebow hopefuly today =)

  • Right on! Check out my other 2 ebow vids on electric guitar. YOu can do a lot with an ebow.

  • Actually that was me that wrote the other message. I have the other ebow vids...

  • Sounds incredible,

  • why does vicodin make you make those faces?

  • Dude it's the magic of the ebow that makes me make those faces. It's powerful mojo I tell ya...

  • souds like take it back of pink floyd

  • I just checked that out. Take it back definitely has that signature "ebow" sound.

  • have you ever been told you look like David Gest? LOL.

  • That's a pretty mean thing to say. Why do you want to hurt my feelings?

  • sometimes i can be a total jerk off on youtube. i'm sorry.

  • I have a couple of buggered discs and am trying to avoid surgery. The posture involved in playing the guitar really aggrivates my condition. What about you. Any advice?

  • It depends where the discs are. Discs don't heal. Once they are protruded that's it. You can strengthen the muscles around them to support them. You can lose weight if that is putting pressure on them. The surgery turned my life around, though I still have protruded low back discs that can't be operated on for some reason. But my neck was the main thing, and now that's not a prob. You must do research and find a good doc who wants to avoid putting pins & screws in you. Mine used my hip bone.

  • Dig it, I think I could have fun with one of those..nice work..cheers

  • They are very fun. It's like having a whole new instrument.

  • NIce work sir. Has anyone tried to mount this unit inside the guitar so you could simply switch it on via a foot pedal, thus leaving your right hand free?

  • There are certain electrics with an ebow built in. There's the "The Floyd Rose Sustainer guitar" and the "Fernandes Sustainer" that have it.

  • Check out the new Moog guitar......it has a sustain function with some cool little add ons.

  • Oh I've seen it. Of course I want one, but they are a little out of my range.

  • i don't think it would give you as much freedom though, because you can do a lot of cool things like volume swells if you're just holding it and adjusting the position, violin bowing sounds and such.

  • Yes the Moog guitar is cool, but fairly specialized in what it can do. It's way too expensive for something that's kind of gimmicky, and wouldn't be used too often. Even so, I would love one, but I've for too much other stuff to get.
