  • Is it a kind of di box or am i wrong?

  • I currently have a Tech 21 sansamp bass D.I. that my favorite bassist has. and now i saw that he got one of these awesome looking pedals. it is cheaper, and should I get one?

  • @Ginirokaze54509 to me overall the sansamp is better but when it comes to noises, hum and clean tones the MXR pwnds the Tech 21 one. Check out my channel for a better demo.

  • @Kaloan91 thanks! i will check it out.

  • @Ginirokaze54509 EBS makes some killer preamps.. I'd use one of those instead (: the MicroBass II is the only one with a DI output though, so if you use it to go to a micing board i'd get that, and not the tube preamp

  • @Defenderofeyre OK I will check it out ^^. I have one EBS product, the ebs multicomp. it is good. do you recomemnd the unichorus or the octabass?

  • @Ginirokaze54509 Different beasts, both are great DI's. Sansamp w/ Blend Knob is awesome, but it's really a different vibe from this pedal. Both sound great and have similar feature sets. (Both can run off phantom power too)

  • he isnt using an on-board pre amp?

  • @GetnFunky No, as I think. This JB has three knobs - vol, vol and tone.

  • @bratekr yeah, well you know. the on board pre amp can be placed under the control panel, so its hard to tell by sight if it has one

  • And for the guy who feels insulted because he likes 90's alt metal...this pedal sounds nothing like STP or AIC

  • I love how when he says "90's metal vibe" even he doesn't sound excited.

  • Bobby Vega is sooo underrated in the pantheon of bass players. Killin it...

  • so dope.

  • First Bobby Vega 90's metal tone I've seen. He's just simply "tha man" at whatever he plays! \../

  • 2:58 The Frayed Ends Of Sanity?

  • My fucking goodness this is awesome and I m such a noob to buy one

  • 2"54 great sound

  • I got told this is what Chris from silverchair used on the song israel's son, Is that true?

  • You guys have the best product introduction on the whole Youtube!!!! great stuff!!

  • Haha, so random I clicked on this video to find Kehoe (M.I.R.V.) talking. Awesome.

  • @fatboyslim615 why would you put emgs in a guitar? personally preferred for tone my friend. sure its not going to have the nice vintage growl or slap to it, but hey wutever rocks your bass right? or guitar. imo alot of fender pu's suck unless you go high end products, and even then sometimes all you do is pay for a name.

  • go to 2:00

  • he looks like the jazz guy from the mighty boosh lol

  • I love mine! They don't mention this, but you can use the distortion channel to dial in a touch of grit and compression for funkier slapped styles, turn down the mids and trebles, it'll do reggae, pull the mids for a solid clean or boost 'em for a Berry Oakley vibe. (contour switch is in ALL the time) Dead simple and rugged as anything; I don't use an amp, and never have to change batteries, it runs off phantom power from the mixer; parallel out to a tuner and I'm rigged for action; brilliant!

  • Omg! Kerry King is the promoter!

  • quit spinning the darn thing around so I can look at the controls as you talk about em, duh

  • really good demo video! makes me doubt whether I want a boss distortion or this!

  • Hi, I know if you can connect this pedal MXR m80 power amp to a Model T. 1050 amp .. I be able to drive it to full power? I would like to create me a power amplifier mxr80 + 4x10 cabinet .. I can do?

  • The look the bass player gives the camera every time he finishes playing... Priceless.

  • I hate Mid EQ, it makes the bass sound so empty.

  • @zachmcfatridge so dont use it.

  • @zachmcfatridge what are you talking about? mids is what brings a bass into the mix

  • @zachmcfatridge

Me2.. Mids doesn't sound nice. It indeed cuts trough the mix, but I'd rather have a good tone which doesn't cut rlly good trough then a good cut trough with bad sound.

  • @toefes Precisely, I love having treble pretty high and bass one notch lower. And I always have the tone on my bass all the way up.

  • @zachmcfatridge

Me2 :) This gives a smooth but still punchy sound :)

  • I buy this one... Sounds much better!! Bad video!

  • Yeah. Is anyone really nostalgic for 90s metal?

  • luv tha stache so much :D

  • ese wei rifa chingon pinche ruco

  • Bobby Vega!!!!

  • Lester Corncrieg knows what he's talking about

  • What does the distortion sound like fingerstyle?

  • @GHGod26 That's what I was thinking. He was dampening with his palm as well.

  • i bought this from Amazon $120 last yr. the clean channel is gives punch and good colour to the sound (passive) good di-box to reduce noise. The distortion might be too fuzzy.

  • Expected much more. Hartke wins.

  • I hate how all the time when people demo distortion they use a pick! not everyone uses distortion with a pick.

  • @LandOfMutants I was thinking about it , but i bought this one anyhow

  • is there one without distortion?right now i've made recording bass properly a big priority.

  • @PHAEDRIDER You could just not use the Distortion channel, its switchable!

The M80 is a really useful pedal, gives you the option of Drive if you want it, and the DI is of really good quality,

If you want just a Di just have a look at the Seymour Duncan paranormal :)

  • @AttitudeCastle nah . got it, and am not disappointed

  • @PHAEDRIDER Thats great! I find the Drive a little "fizzy" for my likes, but overall its an awesome pedal

  • @AttitudeCastle Calling it drive is wrong. It is distortion, and a bad one at that. If it was an overdrive it would be incredibly useful.

  • @hojima Fuzz, distortion and over drive are all technically the same thing, as they all do the same thing to the wave form plus a DI is incredibly useful in its own right!

  • @AttitudeCastle I own the pedal and I always have it on for its EQ. The distortion is not very good. It has far too much high frequency noise. I only really use it for doom-ey pre distortion reverb washes and for disgusting sounding (in a good way) disonant parts.

  • @hojima Well see it depends on your tastes and how you use it! You use it for that, and you use it effectively. Others may like the distortion/over drive it gives. Like the Boss ODB-3 many many swear by its tones, but also many (and i agree) think it sounds a bit naff but doesn't mean others don't use it well/get great sounds from it!

  • carlos santana!!

  • VERY THIN sounding!

  • why de man that plays the bass always has a towel on his neck..???

  • Totally smokes the Sansamp for 2 reasons- a mid control and a noise gate, AWESOME!!! Other note; The Sansamp has a compressor circuit that squashes your sound if you try to pound one and you cant turn it off and you cant adjust it- BIG MINUS! Not to mention about $50 bucks less(for more), this thing will ROAR!!!!

  • ฟังไม่รู้เรื่อง พูดภาษาไทยสิ

  • this sounds much better than the M181 Blowtorch.

  • This guy looks like big bob

    Cockmeat sandwich LOL

  • not feelin it ha, im feelin cheeches scarf more than the pedal

  • thanks man, I already have it but now i could now how use it better

  • i need some emgs!

  • Bobby vega is pretty good.

  • can I use a 1 spot adapter to supply it power????

  • My question is... Can it be used for guitar also? I mean, would it sound good?

  • Are effects for old men .-.-.-.- Lol...

  • if i have this i would be very handsome.. cant wait

  • do you see what i see? truth is an offense. your silence for your confidence

  • This an evil pedal. I must have it.

  • wants to buy this pedal ^^

  • best bass OD ever.

  • earache my eye

  • Wow, how'd you avoid getting hit with lawsuits from Tech 21 NYC for this thing?

  • @hallsf Uses a different circuit and different componenents to the Tech 21 stuff.

  • is it possible to buy a product like this without the distortion controls? Just have a DI with the clean tone by itself? Does anyone know of such a product.

  • @foderahead the Tech 21 Sansamp doesn't technically have a Distortion controls, but you will have to pay about 50 or 60 bucks more for the Sansamp compared to the M80. The pedals are pretty comparable.

  • @abnormalydevious thanks m8 :)

  • @foderahead yes, its called a DI box.....

  • 90's metal vibe isn't a statement I want to hear someone say with joy....

  • @mustard2155 So you don't like Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, or Metallica's 90's stuff? Shame on you...

  • the Bass player had some towels on, he'll take a bath later

  • Can I get Justin Chancellor (10.000 Days) distortion out of this babe?

  • great demo!!! well explained

  • this pedal is imense!

i had it delivered to my house, went to a venue and unwrapped it in within 2 hours the first time i tried it was on stage with my metal band,

this thing absolutely destroys the sansamp bass driver!,

sansamp simulates a tube amp well but this thing gives you the dirtiest metal tone ever! whereas the sansamp only gives an average sounding overdrive.

i was about to buy the sansamp until i saw this thing and i am extremley glad that i didnt! this mxr is perfect!

  • This or the blowtorch pedal?

  • @R0bb89 this, more features

  • Sounds better than the VT Bass pedal!! I'm gonna SELL my VT Bass pedal and get one of these!!

  • that bass only has 3 machine heads :s

  • @TheCurlyfuck No, it's got all 4.... One is just turned so it's parallel to the camera.

  • nice guy and product

    good ad

  • 90s metal ftw!

  • Comment removed

  • im defenitly gonna buy this thing... its an unmissable item in metal music

  • the distortion demo starts at @3:00 for those who dont care about the introduction^_^

  • This guy is fucking awesome LOL!

  • can i use this for guitar

  • I just replaced my M80 with a Darkglass Mcirotubes B3K... quite pricier, but worth every penny! The M80 is ok, but sounds quite unnatural and plastic IMO. The Microtubes has a much more organic and transparent tone... and it can get as brutal as this pedal... This is a good one anyways, one of the best around probably... but the Darkglass is much better I think.

  • @HarmBoosted ment Microtubes, not Mcitrotubes hehehe

  • i hate when everybody automatically relate bass distortion with playing with a pick... no demo with fingers+distortion.. :S

  • not that impressed. The clean sounded pretty good. Check out the tech 21 VT Bass if you want more authentic bass tones.

  • OMG i so gonna get this pedal,. its much better than Boss Bass Dist. The distortion of this one is really good

  • why does all these review people play with a pick when they use distortion? a distorted bass sounds so much better fingerstyle.

  • MIRV!!!

  • There is no better pedal in my book that beats this monster for heavy ass bass in ANY price range!!And this thing is so heavy and solid it doubles as a weapon-somene tries to steal your bass at a show and there WILL be blood on this bad boy for sure!!!!

  • I NEED THIS PEDAL FOR MY BASS

  • Duff McKagan has used it in Live.

  • Is that beardy guy Jim Dunlop? AndTommy Chong playes bass??+)))))

  • I dunno, the pick attack is pretty intense. It seems like it would do better just used as a DI box. Bass distortion is a tricky thing people, think carefully before you buy! I know it's annoying, but you're better off waiting to buy something til after you've tried it.

  • I need to grow some chin pubes

  • This guy pisses me off! DAMMIT!

  • so, if this is the only tool used or recording where from reverb is coming? another tricky thing for kids with no experience at all.

  • can this do fuzz to i wana play some muse!

  • @foofightersfan14 best fuzz -> big muff!

  • eccolo il mio tesoro!!! fantastico assolutamente consigliato per il metal(suono black e brutal principalmente)con la testa settata flat anche dal vivo è una cosa impressionante...solidissimo comodo da usare è na figata colossale!

  • It is truly an awesome sounding pedal. and PLENTY of sustain with the gate setting. The distortion cuts through the mix now problem. I just recorded an album with it and it is by far the best sound i've had DI

  • so mainly, he turned the treble and bass up and kept the mids low.

  • Live distortion tends to get lost in the mix with distorted guitars.

  • @sth209

Yep. Bass-Cable-Amp. That's what it is all about :-)

I hate these soundfiles, where they don't play the same riff with the different settings. How should we be able to compare the sounds?

My experiance with mxr bass distortion pedals are pretty lousy...

  • @sth209 thats a good thing in a way

  • The right one for bald guys, yeah!

  • Cheech Marin can sure shred on bass!

  • Bobby Vega. TOP, Sly & the Family Stone, etc.

  • @rasputinvanclitt Yep!!! He's Bobby Vega... a bad ass...

  • @rasputinvanclitt Funny - but that's Bobby Vega

  • The first distortion part sounds like The Frayed Ends of Sanity by Metallica lol

  • SOMEBODY tell me where i can get this shit from, best pedal i have ever heard, how much is it roughly??

  • about 200€

  • $139 on amazon

  • 70 quid! Wow! That is amazing!!

  • @Piehead99 140 buks in GC

  • @Piehead99 just llok it up on the guitarcenter website

  • @Piehead99 can you type "google this shit"?

  • @Piehead99 i just bought this shit from steves music montreal store for 199$ CA + TX (14%)

  • @Piehead99 google

  • i've gotta reccomend this to my bassist. this shit would sound awesome live

  • This thing is awesome, it's really like having two bass amps, one clean, the other overdriven or distorted. But in one little box. One of a kind.

  • if you have the m80, you can use the preamp of the m80 in pasive mode, and use only the preamp of your amp? or you ONLY can use the preamp of the m80?

I want use the sound of my amp and the sound of the m80 when i will want.

    Thanks!!!

  • could someona tell me what is a phantom power and taht kkind of stuff please

  • If you've seen a mixing console with XLR microphone inputs, then that's where "phantom power" starts. For so-called condenser microphones to work, they need some power - and most mixing consoles provide that power as 48v phantom power using the standard mic cable. Other stuff that doesn't need it isn't affected (like common "dynamic" mics). A direct box like this one can be used to connect passive instruments to the mixer - and use the 48v phantom power to operate - no need for an AC adapter.

  • Can I plug it into the Return input of my amp,to use the MXR as a pre-amp?

If yes,I also use a Dunlop Cry Baby Bass and an EHX Russian Big Muff...how would I plug them?

  • how much for this baby?

  • $139US or 175EUR --- crazy pricing policy...

  • wat's the price?

  • Heavy metal joey demaio-esque distorted tone! :)

  • I think I might get one of these... For the simple EQing and I can use the distortion for times when I need a bit of grit but when my Bass Big Muff Pi is too heavy

  • i like the clean..nice tight low end i dont care for the dis sounds

  • I like the MXR M-80 better than the Tech21 DI because you get a Distortion channel AND a noise gate all packed in one stomp box! Cant complaint haha!

Also, Peter Iwers' tone is AMAZING hands down!!

  • My friend, help me please. I have a multitrack recorder but I don´t have a bass amplifier. With MXR M80 can I to record???

    Thanks...

  • solism9,

Yes you can use the MXR M80 to record. Hook up STRAIGHT to the mixer, and use phantom power to power the pedal from the mixer.

  • thank you very much my friend. I gonna buy it, becouse I have a litle studio & I need it.

    Regards.

  • I thought it sounded best in bypass mode, but go figure!

  • how are you supposed to power it from the mixing board?

  • Phantom power from the Mixing board via the XLR cable

  • now dat one fancy vidayo... boring demo riffz do. repeat for toooo loooooooooooong

  • MXR M 80 The best pedal !! The distorsion is just... YEEAAHHHH!!!!!!!

  • one of the best ever.... i live by this pedal....perfect tone no singal noise what more can you ask for?

  • in videos this sounds like the best distortion pedal .. mmh i think i will order one too

  • I have tried many different OD and distortion pedals... and this MXR is my favourite so far. This one for a wide range of distortion sounds, and a Digitech Bad Monkey for mild overdrive. I love the MXR!

  • NICEEEE im picking up one of these babies haha
