I think my relatives have this car, and this specific year.....not as impressive to see it in person. It's too low to the ground for my liking compared to modern day cars, and then it doesn't seem as big and respect-worthy as a mid-70s or 90s Fleetwood. When GM downsized the sizes of their cars 1977 I don't think it was good for Cadillacs. Good to downsize the Chevrolets and other brands, but keep the luxury cars large I say.
@NitroGadvRules I agree with you. The Lincoln Town Car was the epitome of a first class, exquisite luxury car and one of the last fine examples of the big, spacious luxury cars in modern times. The same can be said for the Ford Crown Victoria and Mercury Grand Marquis. It's such a shame that these cars are being taken off the market and that the motor companies are sucked in by the current trend of small, sporty cars. I've always preferred to ride in big luxury cars. They exude style and class.
Many of today's cars look like round spaceships and plastic pieces of crap. Someone made a comment about how these cadillacs were unsafe! Please! If one were to get in a crash in a hybrid, the outcome could be fatal and that new hunk of junk would be smashed, looking like a crushed aluminum can! Modern cars lack real style, luxury, durability and most of all, Class!! The majority of new cars are just plain UGLY and belong in a salvage yard! Fact:Nothing today will EVER be rendered a CLASSIC
@stellarfungk85 one of the few exceptions to this rule as far as luxury car classic is the last generation town car. It was very classy and truely american. Sad to see it go as it commanded a presence that very few other cars could do and also be super classy at the same time.
Yes! .. Best of all.. it's a Cadillac! .. and a Fleetwood too! .. not a CTS or an SXT or a DTS or some other idiotic, meaningless combination of letters or numbers! where are the Eldorado and Calais models of today? just because Lexus and Infiniti designers have no imagination when it comes to marques certainly does not mean "The Standard of the World" shouldn't!
i hate the new tiny front wheel drive technologymobiles they call cars now. i want full size 5.7 liter V8 rear wheel drive luxury car with bench seats, a horizontal speedometer, a 3 speed trasmission, whitewall tires, chrome grills, vinyl tops, opera windows, and an enomous hood. not some dumbass electric car that answers my phone for me and looks like a retarted spaceship.
I love old GM in general... but the Americans couldn't make really good engines at that time (I generally hate all Japanese sardine cans) like seriously, A 5.0 engine putting out 140 HP? Mercedes could make a 1.8 that could put out 130 HP!!
This car is hobbled by emissions crap that other countries didn't worry about in the 80s. take that stuff off this is a great engine. Also 140 hp but gobs of torque these things are still fun to drive.
@captainkaveh This is so true. I don't even like new cars. The newest car I would buy now is a Malibu. I like the new Cadillacs, but they don't say "Cadillac" anymore. It's just a name. It's not a distinct style like the 96 Fleetwood... the last real modern Cadillac. People can say whatever they want about the Northstar, but truthfully the 90's were far better for Cadillac than the 2000s. FWD bullshit and all with the exception of the ghastly Catera.
Only out of forced neccesity would I buy any kind of modern car and that would be a late model crown vic or grand marquis. Cadillacs lost their style after they got rid of the brougham. Bring back the fins and hood ornaments and send aerodynamic european wannabeism to it's long delayed grave.
@captainkaveh superbly stated! I could not possibly agree with you more! I am a proud American and I am so ashamed for this nation and nervous for those of us with any kind of dignity!
i had a 83 & 84 coupe de ville & loved them. i bought a white on white astroroof 81 brougham coupe 8/6/4 really nice car exc the engine & the brougham pillow seats fuck up your back if you are tall. Beautiful 15" factory daytons. Still loved them all.
hey IdigItup.. whatever THAT means .. what an inept remark! .. these were beautiful cars - some of the last truly stylish Cadillacs ever designed ..before the blob cars and harshly styled Cadillacs of today were introduced! Clearly your sense of aesthetics and style are limited.
I bought one of these, an '85 in this same color, about 1993 or so while owning an '87 Cimarron. I bought it off a lot for $3,500 with about 98,000 miles and ran it up to nearly 190,000 before I traded it in on a new Ford Explorer. Even with the dreaded 4.1 V8 in it, this car gave me almost no problems in the time I owned it.
You mean they didn't have a 5 litre in them before this year?! Geez, I thought the 305 was even in lowly Chevy's.
Anyway, this car is definitely pimpin'. The last of what I think of as a "real" Cadillac. The new ones may be great cars in their own right, but they're a different breed.
@dstarks80 My dad had a 1979 with a 425cid, and a 1980 Coupe De Ville with a 368 cid. I thought 368 was a strange displacement. I thought the 4.1 was a V6.
@themaytagrepairman That's why Cadillac advertised the displacement as 7.0 & 6.0 Liter respectively.
When GM downsized in '77 it incorporated metric parts and measurements in it's new models. I'm glad I have both S.A.E. and metric tools seeing that it's a hodge podge of mix and match parts used to build these cars. I have a '77 Commercial Chassis Cadillac hearse.
@japnikki Unsafe?!!!! If i was in an accident, I'd much rather be in a big car like this than one of those tinker toy jap cars. You stand a hell of alot better chance of survival in a a big car like this. If you don't like big american cars then move to japan.
@themaytagrepairman There is one japanese car which is equivalent to cadillac and lincoln and that is 77-89 toyota crown which was the only car came on with Body ON Frame it was a real luxury car in that time.
@luso2kx...LOL very true but I still love those old school caddys...some one could hit you and would not even know it....I have seen those european cars torn up (eventhough they are the safest cars out there)...and all the person did was tap a trash dumpster...lol with them old school Caddys you could run into someones house and the car would just have a scratch on it
@ez3276 Cadillac specs are the '86 fleetwood brougham is 221 inches long, my '94 sedan deville is209.7 inches long.So thats 11.3 inches shorter not even a foot and not 18+.But both are nice big cars.94 is when they made them longer and taller and wider then the '87's to '93.They made this body style from '94-'99.I really like the old one like this commercial it's what I wanted but the '94 is nice also-peace.
@happymike44 Dude, after the 70s, all american cars were trash. People still keep Cadillacs and Lincolns in good condition because they're expensive, but try to find a 1986 Chevy or Ford, and you won't, because they've all fallen apart already.
Did people actually buy this 5 liter "big" engine thing......
Only 10 tears earlier they had the 8.2 liter (500cui), and that´s a big engine!!
