Equal pay act signed, Stem Cell limits repealed, banking system stabilized, stock market up, home prices up, home sales up, Guantanamo shut down, Goodwill towards Americans up 3 fold around the world, Auto industry reorganized and stabilized, car sales up (thanks to Cash for Clunkers). Unemployment is our biggest problem right now, but this will stabilize itself a little later on because unemployment is usually the last thing to turn around after a recession.
We were on the brink of a depression, if we didnt pass the stimulus, the US would be in a depression right now.

The manufacturing demands of the war helped, but if it was only war, growth would have stopped in 1945 when the factories shut down. But it continued into the 50s because of social programs such as the G.I. Bill and cheap home loans. Also remember, that Democrats were charge through this whole ordeal.
