  • It doesn't get much better.

  • This what country music is supposed to be. I don't what most of the mess they play on the radio is today, but it aint country.

  • @NCTarheel62 That mess they call country is just rock, rap, and pop with a twang. Give me the real deal any day.

  • @NCTarheel62 its a disgrace to the outlaws that defined country. if your song plays on pop and country stations or dont sing about the workin man and the simple life it aint worth putting their cd in front of the legends. they sang about life, hardship, good and bad women, corruption, and standing up for america. now they just slap a cowboy hat on them and call it country. its a shame

  • I sure do miss Vern The Voice.

  • i wish this song was part of basic country class and all the new singers in nashville would have to listen t it before singing

  • Thanks to ole Vern I was burning the candle at both ends at the Dallas pseudo "honky tonks", Bell Star, Diamond Jims and Cowboys. Boy, those were the days and Vern was definitely a big catalyst in the 80's and if I wasn't listening at the joints I had him on casette for the truck trips.

  • LOVE ANYTHING VERN DOES

  • YEEEEEEEEEEEEEHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAW!!!!!!

  • I went to a department at work where we could play CD's. I put Vern in and the guys went crazy. The youngins begged me to burn some good stuff. I put Buck, Vern, Merle, Marty etc. All the old masters and they love it. They are totally hooked and in awe of the old masters.

  • great steel licks from Jim Vest.

  • Thank you Joan for keeping this on!!

  • 7 People do not know a damn thing about music.

  • @whedonfreak976 I agree...7 poor confused souls

  • awesome song

  • My comments show up as darrell1934 now. Thanks so much for keeping this one on. I love it!

  • Was very happy when Jamey Johnson cut this song he will help carry on great country music like this !!

  • @RUSSELL197869 thank GOD fo jamey.

  • I heard ET and after the show bought an album he signed and shook his hand. I didn't know at the time that he was playing jimmy Rodgers old guitar.

  • earnest tubb! duh!

  • 7 and It's E.T.

  • 6 people have no clue who "a.t." is......

  • It isn't a.t., it's e.t. "Ernest Tubb" who sang Walkin' the Floor.

  • Yes, this is county music as God mean't it to be. Brings back wonderful memories of a time that was simple and pure!

  • @jwrob80 Yes it does,,,I'm 40yrs old and grew up hearing all of these old songs...well ones actually older than this through the early 70's onward.

  • Rest In Peace Vern,

    Rest In His Sweet Peace!

    Thanks for the songs

  • 6 people likes the garbage they play on today's "country" radio.

This is REAL country. Not that crap they play today on "country radio.

  • love this ...My Mom was with us then ..we had sooooooo much fun...This one makes me think of my little sister a lot ..listening to her jukebox !!!! Miss mky Family !!!!!!

  • the "VOICE"! set em up joe

  • Love this song.....

  • This is a neat song. I noticed the phrasing pattern is not usual.

For example the first verse is like this (count 1 note to the bass guitar part):

1234567,1234567, 1234,1234,1234. Then 123 before the bridge starts.

    Then the bridge is 1234, 1234, 1234567, 1234,1234.

And there is one extra count in the second verse (after the word 'floor'. compared to the first.

Don't usually analyze like this but I'm thinking of doing a cover version and it is certainly unusual phrase timing.

    But good song.

  • @Johnnydoxx your the guy that sits around the campfire "tuning"your guitar for 2 or 3 hours then do 1 song and leave

  • a classic from my serious drinkin' days. Bravo.

  • GREAT VIDEO BACK BEFORE COUNTRY WENT TO HELL BY GOD

  • Play "Walking the Floor Over You" and "Set Up, Two Glasses Joe" by good ole Ernest Tubb and then play this song!!!

  • I just sang Vern's "Set 'Em Up Joe" over on jtyler5, so if you love country...as much as I do, you will like it. If you hate it, say so on the comments section...I've got the guts to take it! Of course, NOBODY sings LIKE Vern, which was also my brother's name! I plan to now do about four more of Vern's tunes, so come over and pay a visit now and then.

    JohN Tyler....Enjoy!

  • a good country band i like is a band called 1100 springs they got a good song called "this aint the first time"

  • Mister Voice THANX for the post .....Rusty

  • Anybody who wants to here country music like this today needs to go and get them a Jamey Johnson cd. He's is close as your gonna get to good music like this these days.

  • Anyone know where I can get a copy of "No One Calls From Vegas". I had it on an album, but can't find it anywhere now. If anyone can post it to YouTube, Id appreciate it a lot.

  • The younger generations are sick of the modern country garbage, which only represents a small market. The young people of today are referring back to the country legends and want to hear Merle Haggard, Buck Owens, Charley Pride and Vern Gosdin. We're sick of the garbage Nashville is releasing, because it's not cool anymore, nor is it pleasing to the human ear. Garth Brooks and the hat acts killed the popularity of traditional country music like Vern Gosdin. Real country forever!

  • @hectorsalinasisback Makes sense to me, but then again I'm one of you. We have to remember it's a new generation, just like we were. They said Buck Owens & Charlie Pride ruined country music, because they're different than Hank, Sr., Ernest Tubb & Bob Wills. So I can't fault the kids today, they know what they like & the record companies know what sells & THAT's the bottom line. At least they're rooted in country & not listenin' to that rap crap or dopey rock stuff. Long live Vern & C & W !

  • Set 'em Joe, drink 'em down and holler for some more! Reminds me of the juke box in Hawgs and Heifers in NYC...had this song on it and there was some drunk Marines screaming at the top of thier voices to play it again!

  • I've heard a hundred people sing thi song, Vern is my favorite.

  • what the hell ever happened to music like this??

  • @The1tireguy Someone committed murder down on Music Row.

  • INSPIRED lyrics. Reminds me of The Grateful Dead. Always showing respect to the legends. E.T. Walking the Floor. WHAT WHAT

  • Thanks to all the Fans for showing your love for The Voice of Country Music.

Please Vote For Vern and help us get The Voice into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

    TheVoiceOfCountryMusic . c o m

  • AAAHHHHHH Mr.Vest

  • NICE !

  • Great two stepper!

  • Nothing but Solid Gold!

  • I listen to more hip hop now days like tech n9ne.

But hey, when you grew up on gospel, country, and rock, all of those from 60's-90's.

And i say 90's because i was born in 96' So yeah, aint every little kid brain washedd ! This stuff ALWAYS gets play. That and garth brooks, Peter gabriel, and billy squier. Thank god my dad's born in 69' or i wouldn't ever know real music.

  • @canersikes You have to remember, Garth Brooks and the hat acts killed the popularity of traditional country music like Vern Gosdin. The hat acts played modern country, which is basically bad rock n roll. Sadly, country never healed from the damages caused by Garth. New country songs are either copies of 80s hair band power ballads or recycled bonehead southern rock songs. Modern country is white trash garbage. Vern Gosdin is REAL country.

  • well then im sure some of you guys are Jamey Johnson fans? Covering songs like this and writing other country songs that sound like good country not new stuff!

  • "Ol Vern Gosdin. Always like this guy's music. Listened to him growing up, now it's classic country. By God, we're all getting old.

  • This kind of music will come back one day...

  • Yep, i agree with u janbob73. It ain't country these days..it's bad rock.

  • i mis the old country it aint counrty nomore its rock gross

  • @janbob73 its actually more pop than rock

  • i mis the old country it aint counrty nomore it rock gross

  • Wow nice

  • This was and is a good song. I remember it well!

  • greatsong written by the dean dillion

  • @budlightrebel28

actualy when It was written back then it did not matter who played it first becuase once it was played the writer copyed it for his friends to play

  • @kencenpn if you can't spell, you shouldn't start a sentence with the word 'Actualy' (sic). Even if it were an old song, copyright laws would still have applied, but it's not, it was recorded in 1988.

  • 34 years old and remember this music as a kid, sure do miss real country.

  • Vern had a lot of good ones, but this was always my favorite.

  • Thanks to all the great fans for showing your appreciation.

Vern dearly loved his fans. Hail to The Voice of Country Music.

  • There is a very good reason he is called "The Voice"

  • every night i run the needle through walkin' the floor...

  • Damned if I ain't drank some beer to this tune. Thanks for posting it.

  • I used to have this tape in my car when I first started driving. While I listened to the whole album, it was this song I played over and over. While Vern was running aneedle through Walking The Floor, I was wearing out the tape on Set Em Up Joe! Went throught 3 tapes! It was always in the car.

  • very under rated singer. needs to be in the hall of fame before some of them younger yo yos who play that bad rock n roll they now call country.

gene watson is another one who is under rated and should also be in the hall of fame.

  • Don't listen to new country music but I love old country music like this!

  • @sara31tx I hear ya & agree!!! There's nothing better than classic country!!!

  • 34 year old LA boy (lower alabama). There will be nothing else like V.G.

  • Merry Christmas to all the Vern Gosdin fans everywhere. Your support means so much. Let's hear it for The Voice.

  • I live in North Alabama and when I hear people talk about "country" music nowadays, I get so pissed that they have no idea about real music.....Muscle Shoals finest right here, "THE VOICE".......if you know about real music, you know about Muscle Shoals, Alabama!

  • Ol' Vern here is my best performer. I guess so much of his music was what I was raised up on and going into many texas bars could hear on that ol' juke box in the corner!

  • Comment removed

  • no one like ole vern

  • Wouldn't the lyric then there's 124 sound better than B-24? Anyway, Vern hit #1 in Billboard, 7-23-88. God bless you, Vern. RIP, the Voice. Whoever heard of a jukebox selection of B-24?

  • @DaveWollenberg i've seen lots of jukeboxes that have Letter-Numbered selections...

  • @cknight814 Yeah, but not with a letter, and any digit higher than 9. God bless!
