Before it was used in the British Army it was a dance tune called "Jamaica" and it is believed to date back to Shakespeare's time.

In England that tune was known as "The Rogue's March" and was only played when men were drummed out of the army in disgrace! Perhaps it has different connotations in Sweden?
We call it that too, but i sweden its just a song that we play. Very few people know its meaning.
