  • Jeff Lynn from E.L.O on sax?....cool!

  • not a care in the world, not a tear we cryed, listeneing to awsome music everynight...

thanx mr. seger, for all the happiness you brought to millions of us.

few can write what they really feel...

  • we love bob

  • 18 years old here, unforutantley very few people i know appreciate music like this. Not a huge fan of Seger but music is very good and voice is one of a kind. Just missed him come to my hometown. I've seen Springsteen, Genesis, Elton John, Phil Collins, Journey, Foreigner, and Night Ranger all since 2003. People in my generation need to appreciate this music a lot more, and cut it with the computer crap! See some of you in 2012 (Philly) at a Springsteen concert!

  • The audio quality of this needs improvement. Now, I respect Mr. Seger. Out of Detroit, he was a man who had soul in his music. You can tell when you listen. We should be grateful to God for creating him. I do.

  • i always thought it was a guitar not a sax

  • simon cowell this is live music you moron

  • @chunkybuster007

cowell is singlehandedly responsible for the death of music.

  • Hey . . . am I the only one that thought the opening riff was a solo guitar? 35 years I've been listening to this song, and even played in a band (drums) that played this song countless times, and I never knew it was a saxophone. Well, learn something new every day.

  • @NeverforgetElvis - Hey, you're not the only one who was confused about the instrumentation. But I can say definitively that the studio version used electric guitar for the riff, while the live versions (at least the ones I've heard, i.e. "Nine Tonight") used sax for that opening riff. - Cheers, Steve

  • @luteplayer111 Whew, thanks . . . really thought I lost my grip. I went back and carefully listened to the studio version and you can here the "click" of the first couple of strokes on deadened strings just before the opening riff starts. Yup, you're right, it was a guitar in the studio. Cheers back at ya.

  • @NeverforgetElvis Me too always listened the sax here at the opening of the song.

"Stranger tonight" was my first contact with Mr Seger but this touched me almost the same.

Main Street is such a wonderful song. So, it was a guitar opening on the album?

  • @ClubViking63 Pretty sure it was a steel (slide) guitar on the album.

  • Every other band has such a wealth of live video from their early days, why are Bobs early gigs so rare?. I would rather see a poor copy of one of his as oppossed to just about anybody else.

  • just as good live as in studio. Most of today's wannabes can't do that

  • .......a soprano

  • What type of saxophone is the man playing?

  • ithis is best live ilike this

  • What was the name of the opening act?

  • Love Seger... saw him many times beginning back in the 80s and can't wait to see him again this Friday in Boston! Awesome video, Thanks for posting!

  • Takes me back, I just love Bob Seger. Best music, no doubt!~ thanks for posting

  • by far my favorite song from bob seger

  • I looked up your band, Great cover art on that Barooga Bandit album! Would love to hear some tunes. Thanks for sharing!

  • What type of saxophone is that?

  • BOB put on one of the best concerts I ever had the honor of being at !!

  • Great song. Alto Reed on the sax is the man!

  • I was standing on the corner at midnight.... trying to drink a 7-UP.

  • sucks!! i thought it was a guitar!!

  • @frankiev1231 In the studio version it is, but its usually a sax when he does it live

  • What a nice song! can somebody write about the singers life?

  • There is a question about who originally wrote the song and a street in Ann Arbor, MI, but I am here to tell you he LIVED it in the Derby city around 1976-1977. Beast Rock Ballad of all time, btw.

  • Okay, sweetsal1964. In Louisville, KY there was a bar called Beggar's Banquet on Jefferson St. at First. Bob Seger was practically the house band there in the middle to late seventies. The club was Godfather's which was actually on Washington, the pool hall was a place called the Penguin Bar on the same block as Beggar's on First, (You could see pool tables through the window) the dancer's name was April, I and know a woman here in Louisville who swears she is his daughter.

  • @TGREY60219215 ...ill bet...what a bunch of bullshit...lol..love from Detroit.

  • Is that Kenny G!!!

  • in the mid 80's he sold out 6 shows in Detroit in about 30 minutes, we loved our Bob

  • great ...Thank you

  • I swear. I was born in the wrong time period.

  • @KantianEdifice All of us who think this need to start a band or something

  • @KantianEdifice I hear ya. I listen to an oldie videos channel on FB. They play vids from the 50s, 60, and 70, and so many younger kids who watch say the same thing. Today's music just doesn't have it like the older stuff did. I feel so fortunate to have experienced Elvis, the Beatles, The Beach Boys, and even Michael Jackson from the very beginning of their careers.

  • @KantianEdifice Nah, look at it this way. You get to hear and see all the truly greats. Music is the great equalizer.

  • muscle shoals sound baby!!!

  • Soprano sax I thought that was an electric guitar in the studio version... WOW...

  • @RexRed2

    Me too.

  • whats with the gehtto drivers ed video quality. but still a great song caught live

  • Horrible sound, but what they hey, it's vintage Bob. Thanks for the memory.

  • It's a soprano sax, not Clarinet. The Turkish clarinet looks similar, but it's a sax

  • so that was the way he intended to sing the song. Without all those engineers and stuff

  • HERMOSOS RECUERDOS LINDO TEMA

  • that soprano sax is like insane!

  • any1 with piano tab or how to's?

  • I don't get why but this song always makes me think about what lifes really about.

  • Damn, thanks...GREAT memories!

  • The beginning of this song is amazing

  • I love Bob's voice its so soulful yet bluesy at the same time, this is easily my fave Bob Seger song

  • Wow!! Awesome*****:)

  • Diggin' the soprano work.

  • Oh, the good ole days...... How this song takes me back!! I got to see him that year!

  • Masterpiece of melody and emotion. We all feel lonely sometimes. The things we never had in life still can be our dreams.

    Jerry

  • This guy is sooo underrated

  • @ryan4king1 What the hell are you talking about, Bob Segar is one of the most known singers ever, people call him the creator of guitar music.

  • The mainstreet he is singing about in this video is located in Clarkston, MI just in case anyone is interested!!!

  • @sweetsal1964 Nope it is in Ann Arbor. It's written in liner notes of his Greatest hits.

  • I always wanted to make a video of this song. I ALWAYS have liked this song and always will until the day I die

  • It is a Soprano Sax.. Think Kenny G..

  • Is it me, or is Bob Seeger the Nick Nolte of music?

  • Fuckn Raw..... Love It!!!

  • Damn it guys...

    Here another good one...

Bob Seger Down on mainstreet by SnowPimp

  • Those who thought the clarinet wasn't part of the video - don't know Bob Seger. This is how the song was always played...

  • LOL ...I thought that was a soprano sax

  • I stand totally corrected...Thanks

  • that aint no sax

  • I always thought that was a guitar solo:)

  • Bob Seger is one of the greatest singers in Rock 'n Roll. He always sounds like a survivor who's lived a tough life.

  • i agree Bob Seger writes songs of alot of his life experiences. like Hollywood nights i understand is about leaving Michegan and going to the West Coast to entertain. i saw him twice . Bob and the Silver Bullet Band blows you away in concert. i love music! Drohegda

  • @Canelise. yup..Always reminds me of the Nick Nolte of Music when I hear him.

  • alto's my dad! he tucked me in at night! and drove me to school!!!

  • Not only is your father an extremely talented musician, but he sounds like he was a great father to you. You're very lucky. I never have but hope to see Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band live in concert sooner rather than later.

  • Comment removed

  • Live video of Seger is very rare. I was in the opening act on this tour. This was the only show videotaped. We were told not to look up at the video screens while we were on. I couldn't resist, and looked up just as I appeared on screen. Busted. Ah, to be 24 again.

  • @abra8067

So who are ya? What band did you play in???

  • @Anita66608 Did you ever find out, who abra 8067 was ? I was thinking the same thing. lol.

  • @abra8067 why are live recordings so rare? did he not like them or what?

  • @abra8067 I probably would have done the same man! Lucky you to have been t here. Forever great.

  • @abra8067. You weren't in the opening act.

  • @FlonnyJynn Uh, I wasn't? Then where did I get all the backstage passes? And the photos? Google "Barooga" or "Barooga Bandit". .

  • @abra8067 yea failed to mention the band you was in...or who ya are...haha..come on man tell us..you would be 65 now so why hide..

  • @ltuomela Look right above your post. There is the name. And I'm only 54!

  • @abra8067 awe well 24 years old, off of 1980 would put ya at 64..do the math...BING! this tour was 1980..before ya get your feathers all roughed up..haha

  • @ltuomela Uh, 1980 was 30 years ago. 30 + 24 equals 54. Get a calculator.

  • @abra8067 hey im old as well gimme a break..haha..im just playin with ya...my humor can be hard for some..no harm meant..so how long did ya tour with Bob i know him ya know..sail the great lakes with him..great guy!

  • @ltuomela Sept. to Dec., 1980. Punch managed us as well.

  • @abra8067 ahh nice yea his heydays, and yours im sure...historic run there...nice..

  • thats called a RARE VIDEO YOU DUMBASS

  • I saw Segar 2x's in concert at the portland civic center,he was amazing.I still get taken back to my youth every time I hear that song!

  • Is this at the Old Caps Center?

  • yep, sure is..ah, was that is.

  • Simmons!

  • I always liked Bob Seger, his songs are what I call "Blue Collar Rock",meaning not overly intricate or overdone, just down to earth. Surprise?! That sustain solo, one of my favorites,is being played on an alto sax?! Cool beans...,I always assumed its was a guitar!

  • xtremenorthener; It is a lead-guitar part you hear on the studio version of, "Mainstreet'. It is transposed to sax live so Alto Reed can play on it.

  • best live performer ive ever seen...no contest...and ive seen alot of the best....only man ive seen 5 times and was blown away each and every time...i hope the man realizes how many lives he has touched...i think he does even if hes too humble to admit it...mid seventies to mid eighties his music inspired me to be a better person

  • A classic!!!

My dad was a huge Seger fan, and this was his favorite song...

"I'd stand outside at closing time, just to watch her walk on past..."

  • My great uncle wrote this song. It is okay if you dont believe me. I wouldn't. He sold the song in the early seventies. He was a very talented person and I am glad that the world can hear his song. Unfortunately he passed away in a car accident but his work lives on. I am proud to be related to him.

  • Uh...even if he sold the song, he would not have allowed someone else to take credit for writing it. Publishing rights are one thing but he would not have delisted himself as writer.. Would he have sold his children? Of course not.

  • I don't understand what songs and children have to do with eachother but whatever.

  • That's called being rhetorical. I personally don't think your uncle would have given away so much for no mention and little money. Then again, how would anyone know if a particular song is going to hit? It IS a great song by the way.

  • what are talking about?

  • my hell he was soooo sexy!!!

  • One comment here says how 'you can get lost in his music'............HOW TRUE!

  • by far my favourite Seger tune...sax intro always gives me chills

  • Saw Bob in Miami at about this same time. I said then and I say to this day...

NOBODY stays truer to the songs you are accustomed to hearing and singing along with or gives a better live performance than BOB SEGER.

  • Saw him back in '78 in the twin cities. He was mesmerizing. And still is ....what a voice. Listening to his music helped me through more than most could endure. I thank him for that. Seger still rocks!!!

  • I saw Bob Seger in Pine Knob Michigan with the greatest audiance in the world in the 70's. Detroit! It was a great show.

  • Gotta love Bob!

  • This is one of my favorites from the 70s!

    Hello high school angst!

  • what a voice , what a story teller ...............theres was only one bob seger ...thanks for singing my life.....

  • He's the best! There's no voice like Seger's:) I love all of his songs.. I get lost in all of his songs. This is music! compared to what they have now.

  • Thanks for posting this. Although the video quality is not the greatest, one can capture the soul and spirit of Bob, Alto and the Silver Bullet Band performing my favorite Seger song (for what that's worth! LOL!) This video proves that he/they can still rock with anyone and in fact can still do it better.

  • The fuckin man!

  • Excellent quality video...is that in HD?

  • I prefer the guitar intro to the soprano sax

  • Bob Seger is great. I saw him play at a small dance outside of Ann Arbor in 1968 before he hit it big.

  • such a good singer, love his voice

  • prolly my top fave guitar outro of all time

  • My favourite Seger song ever.Brilliant.

  • in the original recording of mainstreet did they use a sax or was it guitar?

  • Guitar.

  • i like the bass player in the jumpsuit, and the soprano dude's shades(70's show) Wow...we really looked like that!! Oh, well..it was the sweet seventies!

  • saw bob in 77'78'and 80...........thank you bob for all the great songs and for singing my life!

  • It just conjures up love!

Thanks for the memories. . .

  • LOVE IT

  • just to watch her walk on past

  • I can't believe I had Seeger's private number in California and never used it. I really did. Shoot me now and call me incredibly stupid, shy, etc. I deserve it.

  • You were polite and respected his privacy :)

  • did Seger give you his number? tell the story behind that....

  • Probably a good idea to use the sax. There's NOBODY who can duplicate that Muscle Shoals sound live except for the man himself, Pete Carr.

  • DAMN, THA DUDE IS JAZZY AS FUCK!

  • what the hell? kenny g instead of the awesome guitar intro..

  • Wonderful song!

  • who cares where and when this was....if you truly love bob you would NEVER ask that question! you fuckin rock for posting this.....thanks man i love Bob

  • great song, when and where? saw bob year ago, great time, rock on!

  • great song,just great!

  • cool video,i had been looking for it for ever.
