@uncletyrone it was my understanding that when Tarantino wrote the screenplay he specified that the film begin with Musica Poetica, and Hans Zimmer then included it in the score. Either way... my point is that it is also played over and over in True Romance.
The local television station in Abilene Texas used this music as background for commercials in 1963. I had been looking for it for so many years! Wow!!!
This song was played over and over in the movie "badlands" with Martin Sheen and Sissy Spacek, and I must admit - my whole family fell in love with it! It's totally awesome and fun! Great song
@ceb2633 Haha I thought the movie was kind of strange, and although Martin Sheen is much cuter than his mess-up son, his character was kind of scary! Oh well (:Great sound track though!
Based on a real character who was even scarier. Fortunately, Martin Sheen can act which is more than I can say for his messed up son, in my humble opinion. C.
The magic of this piece of music. it seems to me, is to be a conflict of simutaneous carefree joy and a pending sorrow just out arround the corner. It seems so happy and sad at the same time, like life. We all should be glad as winning the lottery for being alive, and in a way being born is a big win, what are the chances nowadays, yet how many of us spend our lives wasting time on what we don't have without appreciating what we do have.
JFMP. OK.
@adamsmrt lol same here.. I dont know where I heard it first but it stuck in my head. Its been pooping in and out of my memmory for a good decade., good to finally hear it in its entirety
@djwolde Quentin Tarantino's "True Romance" was inspired by Terrence Malick's "Badlands". This was the original soundtrack in Badlands. True Romance is featuring a tweaked version of the same musical piece
@klauzes yeah, the melody is the same as in true romance but its definately a rework. nice to know. i'll check out badlands! always good to know what inspired your heroes ;)
@WhiskeyArjan Indeed, the composer of True Romance, Hans Zimmer, was asked by Tarrantino to make the music as an homage to Badlands... as is the film itself.
First heard this in the movie "Badlands" with Martin Sheen and Sissy Spacek. As a pro dj at the time, I was on a mission to find it and add it to my collection. I finally managed to track it down in Germany via many phone calls and I now own the complete vinyl box sets from 1-10 Carl Orff & Gunild Keetman "Musica Poetica". Many years on and I also have the CD. Absolute top draw. Thank you!
This definitely deserves more views. I saw the movie Badlands two weeks ago and I have listened to this at list once every day. An absolutely wonderful piece of music that makes me smile every time I hear it.
Very interesting comment. Great minds and all that...I finally got a new copy of the movie and have watched it twice...wonderful movie and the Orff and Satie music is out of this world. A sound track is actually included, but when I uploaded another part of the Carmina, it was yanked off immediately. This excerpt is from an older recording and IMHO is perfect. Thanks for listening. C.
@ceb2633@Doderhultarn89 watched Badlands last night as I've been getting into Terrence Malick's films and fell in love with piece, works so well. Even Quentin Tarantino asked for a similar piece to be written for his homage to Badlands, True Romance. Thanks for this upload :)
Like most of the other people here i got this from badlands. But in the movie i think the speed up the tempo, it seems faster in the movie. good song though
This is really lyrical; almost rings with a nursery-rhyme quality. One can possibly do without the percussive over-rides as an instrumental fibre build-up. But who am I to say? Not too crazy about drums of late, given the dearth of music in today's world. As for the "32 views" preceding mine...c'mon, guys, bequeath a comment/rating or two upon Carl...or do words fail you? Quizzically, John
This always makes me happy.

Bonsoir
