Ovechkin's answer is my favorite and the one I agree with the most. It's basic human common sense: WATCH WHERE YOU'RE GOING and of course, another basic human instinct, be aware of your surroundings.
It's amazing the amount of intelligence these guys have compared to other athletes from the MLB, NBA, and NFL. This really was a fascinating video, though. I like the fact they asked the players themselves what they think about what's going on in the league.
In Crosby's case, people continue to blame Steckel; where as I think the Penguins' medical staff was partly to blame for clearing him after that hit (he played the next game against Tampa) and also failed to discover the real neck injury as it turns out. They also lapsed in judgement in Letang's case when he had a concussion earlier this season by clearing him for overtime against Montreal (I know he got the game winner but is it worth his health?).
the rule of fighting and the rule of having enforces out there are keeping hocky honest and huble on the ice. if you take fighting away, you will take enforcers away. if you take both away hockey will end up like soccer or basketball. a sport of mostly self-exposer without any honor.
I was annoyed by Don Cherry's voice when he was complaining about players equipment being rock solid and that causing head injuries. He's so loud and bitchy, but he does have a very valid point. The equipment is like knights armor now a days.
these rules, take away the trapazoid, bring back the two line pass slow the game down a little bit and for god sakes gary betman do what don said and put no touch icing instead of touch icing that is another way of helping
if you wanna miminmize injures maybe the league should put cages in and mouth guards and yes the equipment is another go back to where biggers guys have played like scott stevenson he was a big hitter but not many head injures but i think head shots you cant take out of the game no matter how you try cause what ovi said and dion said is so true im sorry but we wanted a faster game we got it and it is causing more shit then before maybe go back to the old nhl before 2006 when they brought all
Its not so much on headshots, its the victims control to avoid turning or moving in a direction that could turn into a cuncusion, ive always been taught to keep my head up
@bruinsfan33 Agreed. I think the onus should be on the player with the puck. If I got flattened skating through the middle, head down as a kid, I got shit from my Dad post-game. Players have to know when and when not to go to a zone. The solution for the league is to penalize principle head contact, when only the head is hit. And when the talk about players having respect for other players, it has to be earned; Messier for instance, people who hit him got fucked up. Equaled respect
@PaxtonTrench I mean i think now every time theres a big hit its always being questioned . Ive seen some huge clean hits that have been suspened for , its a tough game , you gotta take a hit to give one. Its gonna suck if it gets to the point where every single hit is monitered and suspensions are flying every where.
2. Onus falls on both checker and skater. Don't skate through the middle with your head down, they teach you that as a kid, and you won't have to worry about being blindsided since you'll see it coming. Checking has also changed, it should be about separating the player from the puck so you can gain possession of it rather than trying to kill someone. You can still be physical without decapitating someone.
1. Eliminate the instigator rule. He's cleaned up his game this year, but Cooke was a prime example of someone who would run around and take cheap shots at players without fear of retaliation.
This makes me all kinds of angry for all kinds of reasons, but if this is really how they feel... I'm not going to argue with that; they're the ones playing and possibly getting hit in the head...

ovi is right. people keep blaming steckel for crosby's first concussion. fact is: crosby shoulda watched where he was going instead of gliding around
