  • How's that offside in 4:50...i don't understand

  • @YMCMBTunechiLil I noticed that too the defender is way in the back

  • I subscribed

  • rickets....under-rated keeper, another one, only because he doesn't have a great fullback line in front of him

  • look at the jamaican goalkeeper!

  • THATS ME AND MY BROTHER IN THE BACKGROUND WITH THE FLAG AND THE FACE PAINT!!!!!!!

  • usa could only get lucky goals

  • @zzzthaoster that second goal wasnt luck

  • US plays well against other CONCACAF teams, but they need to raise their level to be able to play on a more or less equal footing against the more established soccer powerhouses (Germany, Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina etc). Hopefully they'll get there within 6 or 7 years.

  • People, shut up about Jones' "dive". There is a clip on this website that shows Jones did in fact get clipped slightly, and when you're running as fast as Jones was, the slightest touch can throw you off. I think he might have embelished, but he was caught by Jermaine Taylor.

  • Until diving is completely out of the game I will not bitch about it.

  • @RndmPplPrsn Well the way you worded the 1st sentence is really confusing. You said "it's the last guy, not just the goalie"...that's very confusing because offsides is if you are in front of the 2nd to last guy.

  • Note to Jones. America is a not a team of divers.

  • 6:30 ; Is that a birthmark or a tattoo on the side of his chest?

  • I'm a US fan and I've got respect for Ricketts. He played great. that first goal wasn't his fault. He couldn't do much about the second goal. I like him, he's got class. Of course Tim Howard is better though.

  • usa is playin better meico were not dead yet

  • @RndmPplPrsn It's not the last man for offsides, it's the 2nd to last man. Usually the last man is the goalie and the 2nd to last man is a defender, but in this case, the defender was the last man and the goalie was the 2nd to last man. Donovan was ahead of the 2nd to last man and thus it was an accurate call on the offsides.

For another example, @STLRULES, look for highlights of Mexico/South Africa - the 1st game in last year's World Cup. There was exactly the same situation on a Mexico goal

  • One one jamaican viewed this video :P

  • now i have little soccer rules knowledge, but how was donovan offside at 4:45

  • @STLRULES according to the rule it states that the player is offside when they are behind the last defender... it never specifies which player it is... so when the goalie came out and the defender went in goal the goalie became the "last defender" and the other player in goal became the goalie... its a technicality thing and how it is worded does it make sense?

  • @Metrostars67 no problem bro

  • Anyone know what Dempsey's celebration meant?

  • @irishsoccer18 its a john cena thing... means "u cant see me"

  • Donovan still got his speed :) he shouldve just ran around the keeper instead of laying it off at the offsides call if he ran around keeper it wouldve been similiar to the goal he scored against mexico in 2007

  • i'm so happy deuce is back!!

  • Donovan Ricketts played a great game, nobody can fault that lol.

  • Dempsey, Agudelo and Jones are a sick trio to have on the field for us. Jozy needs to be a sub for Agudelo. Jones took a little dive but when you are running full speed like that, doesn't take much to trip you up. maybe it caught his foot or something. Regardless I like his style of play and toughness on the field. We need that in international play.

  • Comment removed

  • Juan Agudelo is a great player

  • It's so weird . It looks like FOOTball.. it sounds like they are commenting on a FOOTball match... yet it can't be? they keep referring to it as soccer...

  • @Warcraft20101 its a cultural difference man. i wish you brits would give that argument a rest. we don't call it football because OUR football got popular in OUR country before soccer did. we've been playing football since the 1800's and soccer since the early 1900's. football came first, then soccer. its our country, our culture, we call it what we call it and you can't change it. you don't hear us telling you "thats not football its SOCCER....DUHHHHH" do you? brits need to chill.

  • @Warcraft20101 you're mad bro seth green couldn't stop the football in the world cup

  • Michael Bradley's laziness almost cost the US that first goal. Turns it over then keeps the Jamaican onside. The US can't afford that kind of play. Dempsey was a beast in this game.

  • 1:43 "the u.s. could not capitalize" the apocolypse, ugh on of those again

  • lol... Landon Donovan looked confused at 4:40. even our PLAYERS don't fully understand the offside rule :)

  • @itzallok hold up there was a defenda in the gol box das no offside

  • Comment removed

  • @joexmc lol... wait, you were joking right?

  • @itzallok Dempsey was off-side cause the keeper was behind him when donovan did the pass and there was only one jamaican left ahead...he actually replaced the keeper. it was really smart as decision!

  • @benetluxe91 ummm... what?? i know what offside is, thanks... and i don't remember ever asking you to explain it to me.

  • @itzallok you americans don't even know its name!! So we can expect you not to know anything about football...

  • @benetluxe91 There are many countries that call it soccer. Why do you stupid Europeans keep calling us out? The freaking world cup final was held as SOCCER CITY!

  • Can someone explain to me how donovan was offisdes at 4:40 ?

  • @Y3110WP13 pretty sure it's cuz he was behind the goalie. you need two players in front of you, or you're off. usually you could assume the goalie is the second man to hold a player onside.. but not always i guess.

  • @Y3110WP13 you may not pass with keeper behind you if there's still an opponent ahead. This is what happened

  • Comment removed

  • @blackjack779 lol, my parents r also jamaican :)

  • need to work on the finishing touch =/ missing out too many chances. jamaica almost got a goal in the first 3-4 min, US tends to give up early goals, play to win!

  • If we could finish we would dominate everyone

  • i love that fact jones to dive to get the foul.winner mentality , you play to win, and you do what you can to win. GO usa,USA ,usa

  • @wadeowslbjkobe

Don't worry... that's an embarrassing attitude of some players and it seems that jones is one of these pitful guys ! So you should be proud of your team anymore... US soccer has been developing very well for the last 10 -15 years... and most of them are real and fair sportsmen... Keep it up !

greeting from germany, the next world champion :D

  • @Metrostars67 yes i agree but this is new school either they get with the progam or we are out think about it we could of had a chance against ghana if we had dived inside the box im not saying its rite but you think spain got too the world cup by playing fair watch the highlights spain vs portugal portugal got cheated they should of won thats why cristiano ronaldo was pissed after you watch that tell me if u still think we dont have to dive some times like it or not its part of the game

  • I was there.

  • Jones should've just continued for the chance of the goal instead of just diving. Would've been a better chance than a freaking free kick! I was so mad!

  • dempsey is steadily becoming the best player on the national team in my eyes. he never quits trying, always has his eye on the goal and is consistently making big things happen for the us.

  • someone explain to me how 4:42 was offside.

  • @cysoccer95

the rule is there has to be two players between the goal and whoever is passed to, so in this case, the player on the line was the "goalkeeper" or the last player, and it was smart of Ricketts to charge out to catch Donovan offside.

  • @cysoccer95 becuase he was behind the keeper making him have only one defender between donovan and the goal, which is defined as offside, you must have 2 defenders between the player and goal, someone could probably word this better but I don't have my fifa handbook on me

  • @Tvpolo9 You're correct. 2 defenders between the player receiving a pass and the goal at the moment the ball is passed. 95% of the time this involves the goalie and one other defender. Donovan was offside since he was closer to the goal than all but that one defender when the ball was passed.

  • Jamaica I still respect my country! One Love!

  • what does MNT stand for?

  • @skaterman518 men's national team

  • @skaterman518 men's national team

  • I love Ricketts I wish he was american, such a classy guy

  • @Tvpolo9 tim howard is better...

  • @wadeownslbjkobe I know he is, but I like Ricketts too though, and he'd be a great back up

  • USNT performance still sucks and they look sloppy

  • @:89 that should of been a penalty, but whatever. The end justify the means ;-)

  • Well Jones is from Germany which is in europe..of course hes the one whos gonna dive haha

  • i think :57 was offside. but seriously guys? play til the whistle it really annoys me when anytime someone comes close to the goal all of the defenders put their arms up in the air waving at the ref for a call. if they didn't call it it isnt gonna happen. so keep playing and clear the freaking wide open rebound

  • @zyxweftr watch closely, he wasn't offsides due to the guy that got juked 0:55 was jogging back slowly. The ball was kicked practically when the players were even.

  • @SirThomas4th thats michael bradley lol

  • the us are so messy....

  • I never wished a man to get injured, but I have read some injury reports with great pleasure.

  • honestly, it pissed me off that jones took a dive because that's 1 thing i have always taken pride in 4 my national team is that they NEVER dive, until yesterday apparently.....

  • @wadeownslbjkobe i totally agree, we NEVER dive.....until now. I guess its cause hes german......

  • @wadeownslbjkobe What's stupid about Jones' dive was that it could have easily gone the other way and we would have had a second yellow and have been left with 10 men. But in the end, you have to blame Dracula for making the call for the red card.

  • @zava55 wanted to issue a yellow card to donovan Dracula that is however they were clearly offside earlier. that was a Setup and thankfully jaimaca failed

    US ftw

  • @wadeownslbjkobe I agree. We should strive to be better than that. I feel it cheapens our win even though we outplayed them.

  • @wadeownslbjkobe i felt the exact same way...

  • @wadeownslbjkobe

yeah true but it was like the classico between madrid and barca incident with pepe and alves although pepe never did make contact with alves, it seemed that pepe was about to break the leg of alves with that stomp he almost did, and the ref made the red card because it SEEMED that he intended to break it. same here, although jones made the most, the jamaican knew what he wanted to do, and thats why he didnt protest the red card. either way contact or no contact, its still a red

  • @wadeownslbjkobe

why does it matter? FIRST real dive in our history. its gonna happen.

  • @wadeownslbjkobe bro i hear what your saying but we cant expect to win a world cup without diving not alot but when its nesecery look at some of best team like barcalona and real madrid they do it all time its just part of the game

  • @wadeownslbjkobe he didnt dive, he was obviously clipped. theatrical, maybe. but dive, no.

  • @wadeownslbjkobe so nobody even wear a jones jersey of ANY sport. ive also realized any guy who doesn't take their shirt off after a game has become the odd man out. oooh society

  • @wadeownslbjkobe in football nowadays the simulation is also a quality.

  • @wadeownslbjkobe i hear ya...but Dempsey dives quite often. Either way, the US dives much less than most other national teams.

  • @wadeownslbjkobe i hated the game against ghana in the WC -- after ghana went up in over time, they dove like crazy... pissed me off!

  • @wadeownslbjkobe bedoya dived against Panama clearly, and Agudelo dived against Chile and earned a PK last year.

  • @blackjack779 Same here

  • @95ShK95 Oddly enough the Jamaican dude doesn't argue the red card.

  • @blackjack779 Your're american. I guess it's fine to root for them :)

  • Great game but US needs to work on their finishing

  • ..for all the criticism that dempsey and donovan get, they are one of the most talented players the United States has had in a long time. They have the ability to create their own chances and come up with timely goals. Granted they don't match the talent level of the great European players we have now, but give them credit. These guys fight, and it's not their fault when the team loses. The problems lie deeper than that.

  • @klepto2 i think i love you....

  • @JuicyLoveForever10 i love u too..

  • lol DEUCEEEEEEEEEEE

    GREAT GAME GREEAT GAMMEEE USMNT!

  • if soccer continues to get as popular as it is now, i assume that directv will do what they did with espn u & classic, they'll switch them because nobody gives a damn about espn classic.

  • juan agudelo is not the best player on the team but definitely has the most skill out of all of them

  • @platty4 i bet he'll leave for england as soon as he gets a chance

  • @davidbassplanc once he gets more experience he probably will

  • I will agree there was no contact (or barely any at all) and Jermaine Jones did a great acting job BUT the intent of the Jamaican player did deserve a red card. He wasn't even going for the ball and was just trying to trip Jones from an easy goal. The reff made a good and bad call. Thats just my opinion. Great win for the U.S..

  • THAT WAS NOT AN OFFSIDE WITH THE DONOVAN.... LOOK AT THE JAMAICAN PLAYER IN THE GOAL!

  • @techndeck naw man. it doesnt have to be the goalie in front of the ball. it can be anybody. not many people realize that its offsides there cause it rarely happens that way. offsides isn't called if there are 2 players in front of you (usually the keeper is a given, but not this time) and a defender is in front of you. in this case. there was only one guy in front of donovan when the pass was made so therefore hes offsides. offsides is actually about 2 people in front, not one.

  • @jkcrusher18 You're right in your explanaintion, but the word is actually "offside," not "offsides." Think of it as describing where the players are, like inside and outside - offside is also a preposition, and there are only 2 sides a player can be on (onside and offside). John Harkes says offsides and it kills me..

  • @techndeck has to be behind TWO players

  • @techndeck The rule for offsides is that there must be 2 players between you and the goal line. most of the time the keeper is 1 of them, but this time Landon was behind the keeper, and only the one defender was back.

  • 4:45 how in the world was that offsides? Please tell me?! Because you can clearly see a JAM player standing in front of goal, so that obviously means Landon was well onside.

  • @davidbassplanc There needs to be 2 players of the opposite team ahead of the USA player (Donovan). In this case there was only one (the one by the goal).

  • i don't undestand why espn doesn't cover this? not everyone gets fsc (its in a seperate package thats full of other crap). everybody and their mother gets espn. if you get the sports package, fsc isn't included adn idk why. its stupid. i never get to see any soccer. instead i have to watch an online streaming (probably illegal) video of the game...

  • @jkcrusher18 FSC bought the rights for it, so ESPN isn't able to broadcast it.

  • @jkcrusher18 you can watch it on galavision, telefutura, or univison in which all are covering it , usa vs panam semifinals tmrw on univision, and mexico vs honduras same channel 2 hours later

  • @greenman1694 all of those channels are hispanic channels (i don't speak spanish) and thus i don't get them.

  • clint dempsey is the definition of unlucky even though he scored one

  • USA won and did what they had to against a lesser team. Now I hope to see a big rebound against Panama, straight into the Finals against Honduras/Mexico ( i got Mexico in that game they looked very impressive ) Oh and Tim Howard always impresses.

And @sketchedy is right about the camera, i watched the game on Telefutura and they announcers were talking about it as well.

  • haha, can't see me.

the team play on that one was very nice. That is real soccer right there.

  • Jamaica has a pretty awesome national team, and Ricketts' keeping is woefully underrated. Great job by the USA!

  • Jones' dive was a disgrace, hopefully it won't overshadow an otherwise good performance

  • Great showing by the US, but what a game from Donovan Ricketts. Jamaica would've been dead in the water if not for him.

  • Great result, best game of the tourney for the US.

I have to remark on the camera setup, however. How do you put your main wide-angle camera in such a place that people walking to their seats or standing up are going to block it? This happened dozens of times throughout the match, and the camera was also slow to track the ball at times. Definitely not up to snuff for an important international match.

  • so us should keep the same lineup this time with juan starting over jozy they look like they had a better flow wit him in the game

  • @LUPOSEIDON7 what bout donovan though...

  • @kopion12 i forgot to mention donovan over sacha

    starting XI

    howard

cherundolo goodson bocanegra lichaj bradley jones bedoya dempsey donovan agudelo

    jozy, edu and kljestan subs

  • Great win by a great team.

  • Jamaica made Michael Bradley look like Xavi out there. He was magnificent. Why didn't he play for Villa?

  • Easily the best USMNT showing that I've seen since before last year's FIFA World Cup.
