Dragon Rising PRETENDS to be a combat simulator. But in reality it isn't. The developers lied to people to cater them around the products, and they used Operation Flashpoint’s repuptation to make it sell well due to Bohemia Inc. hard work with the orginal flashpoint.
The AI is good? They can see through walls, trees, bushes, and doesn't seems very autonomic either.
You only feel detached from the actual action if you're shit at the game. When I started playing my teammates did a lot of the work now I'm stacking up the kills and it's great actually leading a team strategically. They did a good job making it easy to hand out orders during the game in my opinion. It felt TOO real..honestly? You're going to criticize a war SIMULATOR for being TOO real. That's ridiculous :L I understand it's not your preference but you shouldn't review it based on opinion.

yeah, I bet COD has glitches too, so "schoolboy error" is not the term to use. I generally agree with this review - I mean the guys were honest and they did not bash on it just because it wasn't for them and they were fair to it. For me - I had to install AI tweaks and damage rebalances to make it more real, but I have 3 years of military training. In my opinion, the only thing DR lacked was content - too few good missions and too little useable equipment in the campaign.

@AtomicFreerun True. I had positive thought toward CoD 4. But after playing battlefield, well, to put it this way, "my dream came true." I wanted a game that incorporates a 'little' bit of fantasy but huge amount of realism. And shooting a gun in BF feels great, as oppose to doing that in CoD. And that is just one of the many things I like about BF. Then again, BF is way up 'there'. Excluding BF, I would go for Flashpoint over CoD without a hitch.
@mindsoulbody (500 characters limit sucks) i own almost every FPS from the first wolfenstein to the latest Operation flashpoint, so believe me that i know what i talk about, and the only good multiplayers i know so far are battlefield, rainbow six vegas (1&2), call of duty 4 (before fanboys) and even some fun games like left 4 dead 1 and 2.. but also have non FPS games that are only be played by a few people.. like apache air assault wich is great (if you like the realistic ones)

I came looking for a war simulator I found this and returned it the next day. Awful simulator. Your squad is almost useless and most of the time I just told them to follow me and didn't mess with any of the commands.There are no facial animations in this game either.

@Xyshidude its like a game of chess, you get an entire company of troops you have to order around, if its a one on one match, kinda hard but you get used to it, i always pick the aviation team and drop troops into the enemy areas and at good ambush spots, multiplayer takes a whole lot of getting used to

i just played a single player mission from this game.....my god how amazing it is! its really hard and very straining but when i finished the mission its so relieving and rewarding! Heres the statistics from the mission i played:

Mission time: 00:32:44 (yes, 32 minutes!)

I own ARMA, ARMA2= 2, and OPFP:DR and Arma is the superior game with better AI, more realism, and isn't just Battlefield 2 with the difficulty amped up.

all i got out of this review was that this game is realistic and there are some school boy mistakes.
How long is the campaign? Is the campaign any good? Is there even multi-player because as far as i know from this review multi-player doesn't exist!

I'm considering getting this and want a realistic military game.Not one like cod where it takes 5-6 ak-47 shots to kill a dude. And instantly being able to pull an RPG off your back and shoot it. I also love any game that has anything to do with the MARINES. Would this be the game for me?

Might that OPF2 has less bugs. The entire game is a scripted game. No way a militairy simulator. The fact that it is difficult to play doesn't make it realistic....
ARMA 2 is absolutely still the king of militairy simulations.

I came looking for a war simulator I found this and returned it the next day. Awful simulator. Your squad is almost useless and most of the time I just told them to follow me and didn't mess with any of the commands.There are no facial animations in this game either.

Don't listen to those noobs who claim that people who say that the game sucks, just say that because they want a COD clone. The reality is that most of these people know exactly what they want; a realistic simulator of high quality.
The reality is that this game sucks as a simulator. Now if we could have ARMA II and its great mission editor with the performance, stability and graphics of COD6, now then we would have something! Until then we just have to deal with bad products.

@Xyshidude its like a game of chess, you get an entire company of troops you have to order around, if its a one on one match, kinda hard but you get used to it, i always pick the aviation team and drop troops into the enemy areas and at good ambush spots, multiplayer takes a whole lot of getting used to

Real as it's going to get....audio delays? Light travels faster, scientific fact, black and white night vision? Thats an actual thermal scope, night-vision is green. Ok facts cleared up, (everybody knows that glitvhes happen in every game.) gameplay- Tactics, weapons, vehicles, are close as its going to get.

i just played a single player mission from this game.....my god how amazing it is! its really hard and very straining but when i finished the mission its so relieving and rewarding! Heres the statistics from the mission i played:
Enemy kills: 40
Distance traveled by foot: 2,644 meters
Mission time: 00:32:44 (yes, 32 minutes!)
i am an owner of ArmA2 and other tactical games and i have to so this one is pretty good! id say its worth the money

well wtf.. I don't recall there ever being a mission when I get to freaken fly in this game. EVERYTHING is good in this game except the damn campaign. The creators seemed to have just ran out of fund and forgot about the campaign which was the best thing about OFP1.

@MRtomtomi2 ARMAOA's graphics are beyond that of Flashpoint, no console can handle ARMAOA even on merely medium detail. Lag?? Thats because your rig is slow, not the games fault. I own ARMA, ARMA2= 2, and OPFP:DR and Arma is the superior game with better AI, more realism, and isn't just Battlefield 2 with the difficulty amped up.
