One of my all-time favroite Beethoven Sonatas, and a great rendition. It's similar to the Glenn Gould version (a live-performance); not sure which was recorded first.
Very interesting recording this is! I am very glad to have found this... I never understand why great pianists like Yudina have so little viewers and as for those small pianists who miss all music like Salman attract so many?! That means there must be something seriously wrong with the musical audience!
Again, I can't agree with her choise of tempo (and the sudden slowdown in the fugato section - which is the right tempo IMO), but it's an amazing intense performance.
The gentleness, the necesssray subtlety and attentiveness is there for the adagio ma non troppo, are there at the beginning, Maria Yudina moves through the contemplation sequence(the allegro)-examination; observation; meditation; deliberation-gathering all at an even steadfast pace. And the last section, the climb from 7.26, peddling up and up until 8.00 and at the top. My, doesn't Maria Yudina keep you there, all with master class percision, unwavering and sublime control. Thank you.
Thank you ! Maybe the greatest recording of Yudina...

Wow, this interpretation is different from the ones I am used to. Will take some time to digest it.
