TV was the best in the 60's and 70's. It was still a very pure. I think about my childhood years watching Disney, Wide World of Sports, Marlin Perkins, and others. It was so amazing that they made the best out of what the had in them days, that's probably why it was so great!!!! The effort was there for sure.....
Yes indeed, Rest In Peace Dick. Excellent announcer & voice-over artist. LOST IN SPACE wuz my fave must-see show back in the mid-1960s (until STAR TREK came along)...and Robot always had the best lines!! Great dry delivery. Robot and that awful nell Dr. Smith were THE great camp team on US network tv!!!!
Besides this I recall the most the words crush, kill, destroy from the series even though I didn't see much tv back in the day with only rabbit ears for an antena on a black and white tv, no cable, and a step father you controled what we watched on tv and to manualy change the station
@purplerainez Yeah i am from greece and there the programs are realy much worst than yours there, and if they put some of those series more often it sertainly would do a greater good! even for their channels sake.
@supermanfan62 , LOL...no, Dr. Smith was GAY!!! Then again, I think he did have *something for both Will and Judy's boyfriend...Don West who kept rejecting him...so he'd return to Will, a *broken, er unbroken* man....hahaha! He wanted *love* in all the wrong places...
@GanEdenAustralia Actually, 'Robot'(B-9) was created by the same oriental gentalman who created 'Robby, the Robot' from the classic 'Forbiden Planet'. He also designed the vehichles from the show. I may be wrong here, but I believe he was responcible for 'Land of the Giants' Spindrift ship & the 'Flying Sub' from 'Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea'.Can anyone here add to that?
The Robot on Lost In Space was the Greatest Character on the Show. He was Built to be Loyal, Brave,Bold and Protective of the Robinson Family which he was to Serve and eventually become a Part of. He Exceeded his Programming and became an Individual. His Bravery and Tolerance and Protective Behavior of the Robinson Family put him into a League of His Own. He was actually a Role Model for Children and Teenagers too. He never Swore or Lost his Temper or Faltered in the Face of Danger.
Hydrozaft, John was the father of the show, I think B-9 may have said it to him a couple of times, but he definatly said "Danger Will Robinson, Danger" in a pretty calm tone at least once, and not the urgent "Danger! Danger Will Robinson!" that everyone keeps misquoting.
Also, TooleMan87, Robbie the robot from Forbidden Planet made several appearances in Lost In Space, even tried to replace B-9 in one ep as the Robinson's servant.
Anyone remember when B-9 refered to himself as C-7 once?
The only danger to Will Robinson was Dr. Smith trying to creep into his buttcheeks. That's why the robot was always warning Will. But the kid wouldn't listen.
Gotta love a machine that seems to be able to display an entire array of emotions, thoughts - indeed, original thought, and still survive the antics of Dr. Zack! As for Will I understand he's in the music biz in Los Angeles and that puts him in DANGER all by itself. My only question is what is the battery technology this robot was using 40 years ago? We sure could use some of that now!
What a great series -- it helped take your mind off the other things going on in the world in the 60s. By the way, if you're an SF fan, Billy Mumy was Lennier in Babylon 5.
Will Robinson was one of my Heros when i was a kid. He was Cool,.Smart,polite. He never cursed or spoke back to his Parents.he loved his family and acted like a Tiny adult. He saved teh Ship almost every other week and showed the " Adult' Dr. Smith' how to act like a Man. When will smith did do wrong he 'Fessed up" to Dad.told th Truth and fully Realised the Consequences of his Actions. He was a Great role Model fo kids. Even Today. i am suer many kids must have looked up to him '60s and 70s.
@Roadracer987654321 He was my hero too!! Remember the episode when he easily put a laser gun back together after Dr Smith had ruined it and was unable to restore it? That was the kid I wanted to be, though in truth I could just about manage to stick stamps in an album!! He was in Bewitched a couple of times I remember-one a christmas story the other I think he was a young Darren after a spell. In the film i saw he was a colour blind genius, Glad to know I'm not alone with my memories of Billy M
@infrasleep I can across the Will Mumy Christmas Episode from Bewitched by Mistake last winter. I bought 2 seasons of that show for my mother for the Holidays.
Will Robinson in way was like the Older Brother we all wished we had. In a way I think I and many kids all wanted to be " Peachy Keen" and " All American Wonderful and Swell" like Will Robinson. Professor John Robinson was also the " Dream Dad" we wished we all had. I try to keep Guy Williams in mind when I handle my own kids.
TooleMan87 & MrEvan8689, it's intesting you mentioned Robbie The Robot, I mean did you know that Robbie The Robot actually made appearances in two separate episodes of Lost In Space
@SuperCartiel This whole show should be Remastered onto Blu Ray. Seaso n1 should be Colorized .With Season 1 in Color it would open the show up to a whole New Generation of Kids both Young and Old. DVD Sales would Skyrocket ! Who remembers the Screaming Sound of the Advanced Propulsion Motors of the Jupiter 2's Powerful Atomic Engines as it took off from Cape Kennedy in the First Episode ? Who recalls the Screaming Sound of the Jupiter 2's Engines as they screamed in Full Reverse?
I think Lost in Space is already on DVD. Some fourth-rate DVD maker did the pilot.
I don't know where it went, though.
It would be up to FOX Home Video to make the DVD Set. They would have to work with the Estate of Irwin Allen or, possibly Viacom (owners of CBS Inc.) to make it happen.
Make it happen. Start a petition and send it to FOX. If enough people ask for it, I'm sure the suits might get the message.
I can remember the Robot bursting into tears in one episode, his chest light flashing in sync ! Bill Mumy was my hero back then he was everywhere; Bewitched, this, films. I think he was an alien extra in some sci fi series recently last I heard
@ahz123 Knew it was something! Glad he seems to be a child star survivor as it tends to screw alot of them up. The one child star who is 100% ok and all round nice guy is Jimmy Osmond, which amazes me as anyone who made those horrific records he did in Elvis jump suits has the perfect right to go barmy with embarrassment and humiliation in later life
@infrasleep Why the Heck isn't Season 1 of Lost in Space Colorized yet ?
My son ranging in age from 23 to 6 have watched my Lost in Space DVDs.My Older Son watched the First Episode when the Jupiter 2 First Blasted off from Earth from Cape Kennedy, the night before he left for the Military. I bought one volume of the show on DVD 6 years ago. The nI bought the rest of the series last year at reduced Price. My kids melted. My one Teenager flips when Judy Robinson comes on. Remake Time.....
@Roadracer987654321 It was great fun! Too many programmes (shows as you would say!) suffocate the imagination today;where the 'role models' attitude is that stupidity is a virtue - also you would land up in jail if you followed their 'cool ways'! I wouldn't want TV to plague us with saint like characters no one in their right mind could relate to, but I'd like to see a few more Will Robinsons that make you aspire for intelligence and learning. Ignorance may be bliss -but why a life style?!
@infrasleep The " Robot" was " A Mechanical Knight " built and programmed to watch over the Robinson Family. The Robot was Loyal, Dedicated, Brave, Smart, Tough and Indestructible and Flawed at times. He was almost and indeed very Human. The " Robot " was a Great Character and more likeable than the other characters on Lost In Space. The other characters had to be lesser as the Robot and John Robinson had to have someone to look over. Will Robinson also needed someone to save each week !
@infrasleep i have the whole Series on DVD. I put the First episode on my 52" High Def TV set and cranked up the 5.1 Suround sound when the Jupiter 2 Took off on it's First Space Mission. That Earth Shattering sound the ship made when it Blsted off in Episoe one from Cape Kennedy almost blew me out of my chair. To this day whenever I hear that Lift Off Sound of the Jupiter 2 's Tremendous Engines it makes me just Stunned ! When the ship Glowed Bright White at Lift Off it Blows me Away !
I'm glad to read that the robot only said "Danger, Will Robinson, danger!" once. Because I only remember him saying, "Warning! Warning! Extreme danger!"
I also remember him once singing "Santa Lucia" in a completely different, semi-operatic voice. The space craft happened to be in one of its rare actual outer-space voyages at the time, en route between planets.
@hebneh I bought the whole Series of Lost in Space last year on DVD Box Set.
My smaller sons can't get enough of the show. My older sons including one who is in the Military have watched it too when they thought no one was looking. John Robinson was like a Rock. He was like a US Marine combined with elements of the Father from the Waltons in Outer Space. He was the only one who trusted and respected Dr. Smith with his son Will. He knew that Smith was sweet and harmless inside.
Despite the popularity of the trademark saying, only ONE time, in ONE episode, did Robot ever say "Danger Will Robinson!" Though plenty of times Robot did say "Danger!" or "Warning! Warning!".
Just as Captain Kirk never actually said "Beam me up Scotty!". Never!
@Halpin2006 The Comically Evil Dr. Smith was a Sweet Natured and Gullible individual person that Jupiter 2 Space Mission Leader Professor John Robinson knew was Harmless. John Robinson knew that Smith would have been a 3rd Grade English Teacher in another Life. Robinson was Smart. He used Smith to look over his only Son, Will, 24 / 7. He knew that Smith was flawed ,but he did know that deep inside Will was a Surrogate son to Smith. Smith would have given his life to protect Will Robinson.
Dr Jonathan Reed Demonstrations Alien Technology from another world. For those who do not know of this man type in Dr Jonathan Reed in youtube and watch the most outstanding account of alien human interaction in modern history. This is what ufo communities have tried to hide for nearly 15 years. Jonathan Reed was filmed on live television using the alien device he recovered in the woods when his encounter took place.
Our local radio station is using the audio clip from this: "Danger Will Robinson Danger! You are about to hear Olympic results that have not been televised yet!"
@GOPMom When I listened to the High Pitched Thrumming Sound of the Atomic Engines of the Jupiter 2's Advanced Propulsion System as her Engines howled in Full Reverse Nonstop in the Crash Landing Sequence in one of the First Episodes. I was Freaked. In High Def on my 52" TV and with the 5.1 Surround Sound I was in Awe as the Jupiter 2's Engines were Firing at Full Power to Protect her Crew and her Family on her Famous Crash Landing on the Hostile Desert Planet of Season 1. Why isn't this Color?
Good ol' Robbie the Robot! I even liked his twin brother who worked for Dr Morbius over on the planet Altair 5. Robbie & Dr Smith were one of the best comic duos. Though I think Dr Smith was actually an undercover proctologist whose secret mission was to find out if there are rings around Uranus.
I feel it necessary to point out to JubalCalif that the Lost in Space robot was NOT named "Robbie." He was robot model B-9 and was only referred to as "Robot" or "the robot." That's it.
Robbie the Robot was in Forbidden Planet, serving his master, Dr. Morbius.
@TooleMan87 - Pow cara, estou muito contente, maravilhado...Gostaria de saber como posso obter esse sériado Perdidos no Espaço, Em DVs traduzidos em português{Brasil}
Guy Williams looked beyond Cool as Professor John Robinson.
Will Robinson was my Childhood hero., the kind of all American kid you would like to have as an Older Brother or Best Friend.
When Dr. Smith and the Robot were on i got watery eyed. smith didn't realise he was meant to never get off the Jupiter 2 at all. I've never seen a Cooler Crash !
In 1965, my favorite TV show was LOST IN SPACE (still my and my ex-girlfriend's favorite show), and the monsters from season I gave me bad dreams. Season I was actually great television, like THE TWILIGHT ZONE, and THE OUTER LIMITS, which I also enjoyed as a small child in the early 1960s.
These videos bring back fond memories of me sitting in front of the TV on Saturday night watching, Will, and Dr. Smith. John. Maureen, Penny and the whole Lost in Space cast fighting to survive in the wilds of outer space.
The guy who played Will Robinson is a teacher at my girlfriends school in Middleboro Ma. He's an old man now! But he autographed a picture he gave us from the show. He brings a ton of movie stars to the school for the kids.
For the record, the robot never said, "Danger, Will Robinson." I've seen every episode a dozen times or more. I'd bet my last dollar on it...if you find the episode & the quote, That buck is yours : )
From Wikipedia: "Despite the popularity of the phrase in everyday culture, it was only said once on the show. This was during episode 11 of season 3 "The Deadliest of the Species". The Robot gave warnings intermittently to Will and the other crew members of the Jupiter 2, in the form of the expressions "Warning!" and "Danger!"."
Oops! I stand corrected...After reading your message, I immediately went to my Lost In Space collection and watched episode 11 of season 3. Thanks for pointing that out. Excuse me, while I eat my words. :)
@Vadigor Interesting. Apparently this misnomer has even made its way to the guys making licensed replicas of B9. The gentleman who did the original voice seems to repeat the misnomer in this video, at :35 youtube.com/watch?v=xK0Wk7mBKLs&NR=1&feature=fvwp

To this day whenever I hear that Lift Off Sound of the Jupiter 2 's Tremendous Engines it makes me just Stunned ! When the ship Glowed Bright White at Lift Off it Blows me Away !

All that wonderful vocabulary and dedication and yet Dr. Smith loves to refer to him as "A clattering cantakerous collection of cogs and camshafts!"

Never!
Halpin2006 1 year ago
@Halpin2006 The Comically Evil Dr. Smith was a Sweet Natured and Gullible individual person that Jupiter 2 Space Mission Leader Professor John Robinson knew was Harmless. John Robinson knew that Smith would have been a 3rd Grade English Teacher in another Life. Robinson was Smart. He used Smith to look over his only Son, Will, 24 / 7. He knew that Smith was flawed ,but he did know that deep inside Will was a Surrogate son to Smith. Smith would have given his life to protect Will Robinson.

The Robot was simply the Robot, one man did the voice and another man was inside the robot.

JubalCalif 2 years ago
I feel it necessary to point out to JubalCalif that the Lost in Space robot was NOT named "Robbie." He was robot model B-9 and was only referred to as "Robot" or "the robot." That's it.
Robbie the Robot was in Forbidden Planet, serving his master, Dr. Morbius.

I bought season 1 on DVD box set in September.
In crystal clear restored form the show is Mint.
Sesson 1 was too serious, dark and cold for kids.

Smith. John. Maureen, Penny and the whole Lost in Space cast fighting to survive in the wilds of outer space.

willrobinson1955 2 years ago
The guy who played Will Robinson is a teacher at my girlfriends school in Middleboro Ma. He's an old man now! But he autographed a picture he gave us from the show. He brings a ton of movie stars to the school for the kids.

For the record, the robot never said, "Danger, Will Robinson." I've seen every episode a dozen times or more. I'd bet my last dollar on it...if you find the episode & the quote, That buck is yours : )
MrEvan8689 2 years ago
From Wikipedia: "Despite the popularity of the phrase in everyday culture, it was only said once on the show. This was during episode 11 of season 3 "The Deadliest of the Species". The Robot gave warnings intermittently to Will and the other crew members of the Jupiter 2, in the form of the expressions "Warning!" and "Danger!"."
So yeah, how about that buck? ;p
