I'm a white Christian dad with a family. We adopted an 18 year old boy which brought our kid count up to 5. His grades went way up and when he graduated, he went into the Navy. He is white, so I guess that would make me a racist huh? No. We saw a kid who needed help and helped him. Black or white, we would've taken Jacob in. Stupid to think otherwise.
I liked this movie too but the issue is Hollywood and the history of movies they choose to produce which portray downtrodden black people in need of white salvation. The latest iteration being "The Help".

Would the Tuoheys have been OK, honestly, with Oher not going to their alma mater where they funnel hundreds of thousands of dollars? It's a fair question. And what if Oher hadn't been an athlete that could help both their daughter's Christian school as well as their alma mater in football? Third, the reason why the public schools in the movie are so bad and a "Christian school" is the best way to get an education is an interesting topic in the book for all to read.

Equality in the US is still a problem. Its not so much black vs white as it is poor vs rich. Rich have the responsibility to share, because they made their money of the poor. Taking in poor child and helping in is a right step to do, even if rich people should do more. And what if Oher hadn't been an athlete that could help both their daughter's Christian school as well as their alma mater in football? Third, the reason why the public schools in the movie are so bad and a "Christian school" is the best way to get an education is an interesting topic in the book for all to read.

People seem to think there way is the right way, i watched the extra material on the BRay and they explain all the different stuff like they made him look like he needed help with his football and such, they did the movie that way to focus on the dynamic of Oher vs Miss Tuohy.

This is a true story, and sure, they dramatized it, but the basic point is that someone helped someone else in need. When you say that they only took him in because of his athletic ability, then other people will probably think twice when doing something like this for fear of being criticized

Taking in poor child and helping in is a right step to do, even if rich people should do more. @wolfcreeksparks It's not that blacks are against the people the story is based upon, but that Hollywood jumps for such movies, where the "missionaries" rescue the "natives". They will not jump to make movies based on the MANY blacks who help the black community, like the old black woman who took in many crack babies and their mothers. In addition, they can show you the terrible condition in the ghetto, but now how the ghetto condition is systematically set up (ghettos being flooded w/ crack)

@AllfatherGuideUs Ya they could do that but it would not be logical. The facts show that the higher rates in crime and poeple living off the goverment are ( BLACK ) . Not that there arent any poor ( White trash ) out there but common you dont see as much crazy BS going on in a trailer park as you would in the getto.Racism would end if balcks would stop bring up shit that happend 100's of years ago , worse happend to the jews and im not even Jewish.Blacks arent owed anything so get of that.

@AllfatherGuideUs This is only for the blacks that feel that way. there are plenty of blacks out there that no matter what are doing there best to stand on there own two feet and not blaming anyone.
