  • @GenosisDX Thanks for posting this, I find this interesting, my older brothers grew with this in their teens.

  • man this takes me back i was like 13yrs old watching Sci Fi every weekend cause it have good animation and classic stories. can anyone tell me if they know or watch a anime short can't remember it's a robot with goggle eyes and it have instrumental music where he saves his girl can't remember the name just what it looks like

  • Did the narrator refer to anime as "woman hating?" Ahh, the politically correct 90's. I certainly don't miss that aspect of them.

  • @Kempoka83 I don't either.

  • sci-fi was awesome back in the day :D

  • Anybody know what the anime at 3:45 is called?

  • @KittenMan93 Tenchi Muyo. I'm not sure if it's the show or the movie in the clip.

  • The Sci-Fi Channel used to kick so much ass back in the day.....

  • @BayAreaGiant1 Com'on youse got the rare ones Cowboy bebop......Samurai Champoo or how itsa spelled!

lol bayarea giant I brought ghost ridin whips to the D!

  • Thank you for sharing this important piece of history.

  • i completely remember watching tenchi and excel saga on sci fi XD

  • what was that anime on the end of this video?

  • Thank you so much for posting this! I am a fan collector of anime news reports and I find it fascinating how different the UK's view of anime is from the US. :)

  • @Forysan im interested to know your views on the differences just to have an insight into your findings being from the u.k. im not even sure how the masses see anime please share your thoughts

  • @trulgn I'd be glad to! Since this is from 1997, I can tell you that anime was not widely known by mainstream America. Sure, it was different than in the 80's where we saw zilch in the market, but it wouldn't be until the Pokemon phenomenon and the ratings for Cartoon Network's Toonami lineup that it would really make a splash in the U.S.. Before that, translated titles were available at entertainment stores like Sam Goody. Tapes were around $26 for subtitled versions. (cont.)

  • @trulgn From my understanding, Europe saw uncut releases long before we did, you lucky bastards. XD To this day, there are titles you guys have that we would pay a king's ransom to get a hold of. I don't know how fans are over there, but the fandom has changed A LOT (and not for the better I'm afraid). In fact, the majority of young people that attend conventions over here are wildly immature, caring more for the con raves (dances) and shouting internet memes ad nauseum. Meanwhile, the market...

  • @trulgn ...has seriously taken a dive, no thanks to digital fansubbers. Several prominent companies including ADV Films and Geneon are now gone, and titles readily available are now out of print and fetch up to hundreds of dollars. The big series everyone is raging about is "Axis Powers Hetalia", a fast paced parody of World Wars I and II where the different countries are personified into hilarious characters. It's popular with young girls because they "pair" each country up with another.

  • I've seen Akira on that channel in my country when I was 11 years old, I think.

I also saw a bit of anime movies too on there. :)

  • I remember when Scifi Channel use to air anime then they stop showing it. I heard it anime came back to Scifi Channel but they took it off the air.

  • Most kids my age grew up on Saturday morning cartoons. Me and my friends grew up on Saturday Anime on Sci-Fi! I hate you Sci-Fi channel, its because of YOU people that we have all this made for kids anime on TV today.

  • Sci Fi channel slipped up. You can totally see that girl's nipples for a micro second.
