listen to that BIG sound, the cinema organ is the best, people who havent heard one of these really dont know what there missing.

Yes the Hammersmith organ really is a BIG sound. The pipes are above the front stalls ceiling and the sound is ducted down through a large grill above the proscenium. It's amazing how well it projects into that huge auditorium and fills it.

Thanks glenny56. Yes it was quite a task I can tell you, but worth it in the end.
In the 70s and 80s the interest in these things was not very high. All the management was interested in was making money. Now however the value of instruments like this is more appreciated, both in terms of heritage and music.

What a beautiful sounding compton, and a credit to the people that have spent 100's of hours restoring the wonderful organ.
I have to ask why the an organ of this calibre was not kept in working order.

What a fabulous Compton! I admire Richard's playing style greatly, he has such a fluid, almost effortless style, it's great. Come on Ivor, how about a few videos of you at the Compton? That would be excellent! = D

It was a truly remarkable and memorable day. We even had ITV London television coverage on the "London Tonight" programme.
The Hammersmith Compton cinema organ is one of the most fantastic machines or musical instruments in the country - not least because it is 75 years old!
