if you have ever studied geology, plate tectonics and global warming you might realize what will happen when antarctica defrosts. currently greenland is on record as rising out of the sea at a rate of 1 inch per year (attributed to the ice melting). antarctica will also rise out of the sea (once enough ice melts) and is connected to every tectonic plate around the world, directly or indirectly. it has the potential to crack the earths crust and makes any other issue pale in comparison.

current co2 levels are at 390 ppm. greenland has defrosted enough to rise out of the sea 1 inch per year. when antarctica defrosts enough it too will rise out of the sea. it is connected to every tectonic plate around the world and will crack the earths crust when it does start rising out of the sea. this isnt doomsday bull, this is science and a very serious threat to mankinds future.

About these melting ice caps.

What matters is net gain/loss of ice, as you well know, this is what affects sea levels.

There is no net loss from Greenand, and Antarctica has a net gain. Papers show the evidence, and it is also shown in the declining MSL from Envisat.

The Earth itself is a large thermometer. The sea level is a measure of average global temperatures. The rising sea level tell us that the temperatures have been rising. If the data presented in this video for the US is accurate then its climate has moved out of step with the rest of the world.

The breaking news item about CO2 lagging temp rises was predicted by Jim Hansen & co in 1995. Hardly breaking news. No one was saying that CO2 initiated these rises, just amplified them.

This video is more nonsense. Nobody has ever argued (including Al) that CO2 cahnges caused the ice ages. It has been known for over 100 years that that changes in the Earth's orbit (milankovitch cycles) will affect the Earth's climate. The periodicity of the START of the warm periods corresponds to changes ine Earth's orbit. Those changes cannot cause the amount of warming observed - it requires the positive feedback of increasing GHGs to do that. Thats why CO2 is correlated with temperature

I am a scientist and have been to Antarctica, Greenland, Tunisia, South America and many other impacted areas of climate change. Global warming is incorrect terminology — the more appropriate term should be Global Climate Change. Why is the gulf stream slowing? I agree that Globe Warming should be called Climate Change because some areas will be hotter and others colder due to changes caused by localized events ie volcanos. Nothing is obvious yet look at the glaciers.

I'm calling BS. I can't believe nobody else noticed that when they talk about the graph of the earth's temperature since 1880, they try and pull a fast one switching the data from the EARTH's temps to US temps. (2:30 - 2:50). Regional temperature data are useless when looking at global temperature change. I'm not saying Al Gore's idea of global warming is completely accurate either, but deliberately trying to mislead people like the creators of this video doesn't help anyone.

They didn't *try to deceive* anyone, they openly ackowledge that they're going to a more detailed account, focusing particularly on the U.S. The example for the earth is simply not shown; the video goes into a more detailed, more relatable chart. Graphing the hottest years on earth would be tedious and hard to look at, especially considering the length of the graph (1880-2000).

It's a common time-saver.

It would be perfectly fine to compare the earth's temp with the corrected earth's temp, or the US temp with the corrected US temp. They compared global data with corrected regional data which is useless. Compare apples to apples or oranges to oranges, but what they did is incorrect at best, deceiving at worst.

@edmoil12 If they were trying to deceive, they wouldn't have openly acknowledged their switch from global measurements to U.S.-based measurements. They were giving a more condensed, isolated graph for clarification of a point. It's a documentary, not a global geological survey report.

It's the research equivalent of adding a "dot dot dot" midway into a quotation. It's common, not deceptive.

@HarrisonOdell  If you were to graph the temperatures of various local areas over the past couple hundred years, some would have shown warming, some cooling, and some areas about the same. Global temperatures are by far the most important data when dealing with climate change. All I'm saying is it's quite possible for someone watching this to mistake the filmmakers conclusion that 3 of the 5 hottest years occurred in the mid 1900s for world temps rather than US due to the way it was presented.
