Frank nailed the dilemma faced by anyone who's ever had to pay someone a fortune just to get a light bulb changed on their behalf. I had Bob Dylan clean my toilet the other week.
i love this song one of my favourite zappa songs. sums up why i hate insurance and modern built crap but most of all i think the melodies and structure of this song have few equals. it doesnt matter the words are funny and frank is really taking the piss, the structure and melodies are peerless. long live franks "air sculptures"...
I think that this tune per se is one of Zappa's best compositions. However, I'd agree with those who prefer the studio version over this live recording. The performance is unfortunately not too great. Anyway, it's nice to see Frank.
There is not such thing as a studio version of this song. The version on Sheik Yerbouti is live (recorded at the Odeon Hammersmith in 1978), but with studio overdubs.
being a fan of Frank was like organised religion and drug taking all rolled into one. You believed everything he said and you couldn't get enough of him.......
In the panty examination there was found much wanting and too much stinky pudding. But that never derailed the performance. Were the panties returned to the offender? We'll never know. But the performance rolled on to a smooth and clankey conclusion as the singer signed an album and told us of morons and their comeuppance. Love was in the air that day at the Dub Room. Ahhhh . .. .
YOU HAVE JUST DESTROYED ONE MODEL XQJ-37 NUCLEAR POWERED PANSEXUAL ORATAL PLOOKER; AND YOURE GONNA HAVE TO PAY FOR IT, SO GIVE UP, YOU HAVEN'T GOT A CHANCE!
This performance doesn't do the song justice. The album version is much better and funnier. The Dylan impersonation is weak and the way Frank sings the part of the home owner at 3:00 is not as funny. I'm sorry maybe it's just me but I really think the album version is perfection. Everything on that track is necessary, everything down to the drill noise.

It amazes me the quantity of really good musicians that Frank constantly found for his material, many of whom made their name with him and went on to greater success elsewhere. George Duke, Chester Thompson, Steve Vai, Terry Bozzio, Vinnie Colaiuta, Adrian Belew, etc. Too many to mention.
@pilesovinyl I think part of the reason these musicians were so good was Frank. I learned from going to Steve Vai's Masterclass that Frank constantly challenged them with close to impossible music to play.
A steller performance from A Franktastic Album everymotherfuker ought to go out and buy Swear to god its Dylan on the album Frank offers first kick at the Mandies whatever those are?
@FlyingFooBalls lol dude there was no zoot allures band. That album was from live recordings of the previous tour and studio tracks with zappa playing most instruments, bozzio on drums and a few guests (ruth for example) his next band was the '76 band documented in the new philly album.
@confusedDirector LOL DUDE zoot allure & sheik yerbouti: roy estrada, patrick o hearn, terry bozzio, pat o hearn, ed mann, tommy mars etc.
All those guys appear on either zoot allures or sheik yerbouti, some on both. so thats what i mean when i say this band doesnt hold a candle to the zoot allures/ sheik yerbouti guys, most of these guys arent on those albums.
as an ironic statement i once through him a panty by my former girlfriend onto the stage - in bremen, stadthalle, 1986 or somewhere in that region. he interrupted and asked his band, if someone wanted to go to the hotel to get his quilt made by unwashed panties. that was so cool. they didn't get the quilt in the end, but it was a good laugh. i was so proud...
