  • When the BS of life with all the idiots, baboons, fakes, liars, creeps, and losers piles up just way to high . . . .I turn to Frank to bring me down.

  • The best version of "Flakes" recorded at The Paladium in NYC,on Halloween,{October 31},in 1981. AWESOME STUFF!!! ;-P

  • Good rips on Dylan here!!!

  • You wanna buy some mandies Bob?

  • Zappa can't play guitar while he is singing, but he can sing, sign autographs, and be awesome at the same time?

  • Nice signature technique. But can he do it during a guitar solo or maybe The Black Page?

  • @wevelostDon FZ was approached by the libertarian party due to his ideas on income taxes vs other means of raising revenue. He found that their platform was inconsistent and a lot of the ideas insensible so he said no.

  • Genius!!!

  • Frank is quite possibly the coolest dude that ever lived. Anyone with the courage to wear such a pantsuit is truly superhuman.

    No seriously - Frank rules.

  • Wanna' buy some cave paintings, Bob?

  • LOve this live version with hot panties!

  • so awesome zappa rules

  • top song x]

  • steve vai sniffed the reaking buns of angles

  • @nmepig that'll be 'the reeking buns of angels'. Are you deaf/illiterate/bad at typing or all 3? Never mind, glad you enjoy it.

  • @togfiado666 bad at typing lol

  • ladys and gentlemen mister Bob Dylan 1:18

  • Great insight on this Consumer Society. U.S.A. Inc.

  • Steve Vai sniffs the famous Voodoo Butter Underpants....

  • reminds me of insence and "bead doors" like....from the 70's and even the 80's!!!!

  • hahahahaha!

    fucking funny as always!

  • California's got the most of them

  • Executed perfectly.

  • 2 plumbers were insulted

  • 2:46 DO THE ZAPPA

    1. Flap wings

    2. Robot Walk in Place

    3. Do miniature arm wave

    4. Wipe nose

  • I am a Moron and this is my wife.....

  • One of the last geniuses in most ways ... what all he had to cope with in his days is just amazing ... besides making so many great songs in so many great ways ... and he always did a darn good job on all fronts ... cause he was "on duty" :)

    what a guy ...

  • Just what the fuck is center? Fuck center man, can you even spell center?

  • I saw them in Chicago 1981 Kicked ass!@

    wanna buy some acid Bob!

  • I saw them in Chicago 1981 Kicked ass!@

  • immer Frank!!!!!!!!

  • Frank was considered left of center, of course, but "We're protected by unions, so don't let it upset you" backs up Scott Walker.

  • "Acid" live. 'Mandies" studio.

  • @BrianMChampion Yes I noticed Mandrax Acid pool pond.

  • they're protected by unions.so dont let it upset ya

  • while your children are sleeping your puppy is crappin!

  • WANNA BUY SOME ACID BOB?

  • I would really like to know where Zappa got that outfit.

Not because I want one for myself or anything...

  • Top quality musicians. Shames the electro studio pop our kids have to listen to

  • i have dealt with a lot of californians before, and let me tell you, 90 per cent of them are flakey.

  • @groovechaser I moved from Wyoming to Southern Cali...I am moving back to Wyoming!

  • Frank nailed the dilemma faced by anyone who's ever had to pay someone a fortune just to get a light bulb changed on their behalf. I had Bob Dylan clean my toilet the other week.

  • A timeless song. California has the most of them? I beg to differ......THERE ARE MILLIONS AND MILLIONS!!

  • he was admired by men, loved by women and a few men possibly too, yes,

will we ever see his elk again, I'm not at all sure.

  • @krasnyploshad3 His elk!? You must be moosetaken.

  • i love this song one of my favourite zappa songs. sums up why i hate insurance and modern built crap but most of all i think the melodies and structure of this song have few equals. it doesnt matter the words are funny and frank is really taking the piss, the structure and melodies are peerless. long live franks "air sculptures"...

  • I think that this tune per se is one of Zappa's best compositions. However, I'd agree with those who prefer the studio version over this live recording. The performance is unfortunately not too great. Anyway, it's nice to see Frank.

  • @uafrankie

There is not such thing as a studio version of this song. The version on Sheik Yerbouti is live (recorded at the Odeon Hammersmith in 1978), but with studio overdubs.

  • @Aqualong53

Agree, but it's pretty much what I meant to say. Thank you!

  • being a fan of Frank was like organised religion and drug taking all rolled into one. You believed everything he said and you couldn't get enough of him.......

  • You wonna buy some acid, Bob?

  • take it away bob....

  • Comment removed

  • Nope. I'm sorry this performance is awful.

  • @Neweddy24 We're coming to get you.

  • the finest consumer affairs rock song of its generation!

  • Who the fuck want's to watch Zappa stand there like a preacher in some stupid jump suit? Where the fuck is his guitar?

  • @Neweddy24

    ??? duuuude....c'mon.....

  • @Neweddy24 your off base man, playing with panties and signing autographs is way cooler.

  • @Neweddy24

YOU HAVE JUST DESTROYED ONE MODEL XQJ-37 NUCLEAR POWERED PANSEXUAL ORATAL PLOOKER; AND YOURE GONNA HAVE TO PAY FOR IT, SO GIVE UP, YOU HAVEN'T GOT A CHANCE!

  • some size of snitch on zappa, guess thast what makes him legend as well.

  • Never flush a tampoon! Classic!

  • pah. Zappa looks so bored.

  • Hey MWL4466- IT WAS EATEN BY SNAKES!!! Cheers!

  • Ed Mann rocks!

  • hot rats

  • What I want to know is, is it pink or purple?

  • just makes me feel happy

  • LOVE IT!!!

  • I love Frank's dance

  • This performance doesn't do the song justice. The album version is much better and funnier. The Dylan impersonation is weak and the way Frank sings the part of the home owner at 3:00 is not as funny. I'm sorry maybe it's just me but I really think the album version is perfection. Everything on that track is necessary, everything down to the drill noise.

  • California's got the most of them (fer sure fer sure)

  • 4:18

Wow, he was a nice guy!

  • WHERE'S MY MOTOR??? Hee Hee......

  • The one & only brilliant Frank Zappa's parody of the one & only hugely over rated Dylan.

  • We miss you Frank

  • We miss you Frank

  • ZAPPA WILL GO ON FOREVER, SPARKLING ON THE UNIVERSE

  • i swear if i let my hair grow it owuld look just like Zappa's. except brown

  • wow! lucky one who got there RECORD sighned...

  • Zappa grew up around a lot of military chemicals... clearly turning him into a God.

  • @sk8tboarder18 I think Frank Zappa is probably the most radioactive rockstar of all time xD

  • "Wanna buy some acid, Bob?"

  • one people have no taste in music

  • lmao, bob dylan, i wish i'd of been able to see him live frank is a legend

  • steve vai on weird guitar sounds

  • Is that Wackerman on drums? Fuck, just add Ike Willis and you have one of the greatest Zappa line-ups ever!

  • @Pastalet Hmmm, didn't notice Ike was missing from this line up.

  • this is one of my favorite Zappa songs. I love the album version goes right into another favorite, Broken Hearts Are For A-Holes.

  • He brings the underwear to Steve...

  • The one and only...

  • It amazes me the quantity of really good musicians that Frank constantly found for his material, many of whom made their name with him and went on to greater success elsewhere. George Duke, Chester Thompson, Steve Vai, Terry Bozzio, Vinnie Colaiuta, Adrian Belew, etc. Too many to mention.

  • @pilesovinyl I think part of the reason these musicians were so good was Frank. I learned from going to Steve Vai's Masterclass that Frank constantly challenged them with close to impossible music to play.

  • @elmoK1LL3Dyou I definitely get the impression from various archived footage and live performances that Zappa worked his bands real hard.

But they certainly repay him for that.

  • @elmoK1LL3Dyou Yep, check out youtubes Steve Vai audtion try out for the band when he was about 20 or so. It's a riot! Put in search below

Steve Vai On His Audition for Frank Zappa's Band

  • I hate cigarettes.

  • how many pairs of underwear does he collect on this song alone?

  • @dzp5560 What reason are you givin for hating this guy????

  • Never flush a Tam-Poon!!!!

  • What is the fuck is he wearing

  • "I am a moron...." forerunner to Borat? :)

  • Someone mention acid? cus I started this new canvas.

  • the fact that he's getting knickers thrown / passed to him whilst wearing a pink romper suit should be an inspiration to budding bands everywhere.

  • People like Zappa make me proud to be Italian.

    Amazing!

  • You must be Italian, love your nails :D

  • I bet that percussionist is having a blast

  • A steller performance from A Franktastic Album everymotherfuker ought to go out and buy Swear to god its Dylan on the album Frank offers first kick at the Mandies whatever those are?

  • @Chronepsis5

Mandies are another name for quaaludes

  • @suzycreamchez123

You hear it more in England than here in the US. I think it was short for Mandrax

  • @Chronepsis5 It's Adrian Belew making the Dylan impersonation on the Sheik Yerbouti album

  • @foutupourfoutu

Belew came up with that, kidding the material when he first learned it with FZ.

"that's it! that's in the show"

  • the saarbrucken / beat the boots recording of this tune is TOPS

  • one of my favorite zappa tunes!!

  • poor bob dylan.

  • Aw man, they skipped one of my favorite parts of the song.

Oh well, it's an amazing song no matter what.

  • tommy mars is still there i know

  • this band doesnt hold a candle to the zoot allures/ sheik yerbouti guys

  • @FlyingFooBalls lol dude there was no zoot allures band. That album was from live recordings of the previous tour and studio tracks with zappa playing most instruments, bozzio on drums and a few guests (ruth for example) his next band was the '76 band documented in the new philly album.

  • @confusedDirector LOL DUDE zoot allure & sheik yerbouti: roy estrada, patrick o hearn, terry bozzio, pat o hearn, ed mann, tommy mars etc.

All those guys appear on either zoot allures or sheik yerbouti, some on both. so thats what i mean when i say this band doesnt hold a candle to the zoot allures/ sheik yerbouti guys, most of these guys arent on those albums.

    nuff said

  • i know i said pat ohearn twice, my bad i meant adrian belew

  • ED MANN on Vibes!!!

  • @cheebawobanu I used to work with a guy called Ed Mann, i called him Eddie Mann Halen.

  • @00sven00sven00 haha!! Right on! Ed is da mann!! :o)

  • There are so many damn flakes around, the only thing they're good for is making this song TIMELESS!

  • as an ironic statement i once through him a panty by my former girlfriend onto the stage - in bremen, stadthalle, 1986 or somewhere in that region. he interrupted and asked his band, if someone wanted to go to the hotel to get his quilt made by unwashed panties. that was so cool. they didn't get the quilt in the end, but it was a good laugh. i was so proud...

  • That's the coolest shit ever. I'm jealous.

  • Frank probably had the largest panty collection ever !!!!

  • Project / Object is touring!!!

  • Haven't played sheik in a while. Good stuff! "Well it was eaten by snakes!"

  • "im a moron and this is my wife hmmmh mmmhmmm..." sticks in my head

  • I love Him. Respect Frank. Be good;)

  • How long was Vai in Frank's band before Alcatrazz?

  • maybe about 1981-1984

  • "we're protected by unions so don't let it upset ya" lmao

  • thanks to whoever posted this. My favorite Zappa track. "Well my toilet went crazy........ pure gold

  • yesterday afternoon. The plumber he said "Never flush a tampoooon," That great information cost me half a weeks pay, and the toilet blew up later on the next dayyyyy...."Broken Hearts are for Assholes." Love that song : D

  • I love this song it's funny the way the anti drugs part is sung and when Ray White stares at the camera.

    Frank Zappa is ace

  • ahahah, did some chick give him her panties near the end?

  • LOLLLLLLLLL

    "..every business on the coast.."

    what amazing lyrics..genius music

  • Frank always commanded the best of what his musicians had to offer, and the background vocals are certainly proof of that in this particular video.

  • The march style of snare on "we are millions and millions..." is very neat. I don't remember to be that way on the LP.

Boy, how I love this man!

  • haha the dylan impression is on the spot

  • LIBERATE ZAPPAS MUSIC

  • Genius ..and hey theres Steve Vai

  • At least learn the lyrics...

  • hahaha awesome

  • What do they mean by Flakes?

  • Lazy and incompetent workers. The kind of people who take forever to fix a trivial thing, charge you out of the ass for it, then it breaks the next time you use it because they did a horrible job.

The song was a treatise on those types of people, and a rather hilarious one.

  • oh, i thought this song was actually about dandruff. lmao.

  • thats awesome

  • I liked Adrian Belew's version of Bob Dylan better.

  • Link????

  • Yup.

  • panties were collected because some woman was going to make a quilt with them. Don't know where they ended up

  • not a bad dylan part lol

  • whoever got him to sign is a lucky bastard

wonder if the girls got there pantie's back heheheheh

  • The "Dylan"-part with the harp is hilarious....Great tune!

  • grrrreat!

  • Nice! I like how he tweaked the arrangement--I only know this from Sheik Yerbouti. Beautiful. Thanks for posting!

  • what is ed mann playing at 0:57 ?

  • Those are vintage electronic drums called Syndrums.
