what's with all the little twerps deriding this song? probably one of the better tunes he's written. atmospheric, bluesy and some solid lyrics. i guess kids like you just aren't exposed to those kinds of things in the music you usually listen to lol. lottttta bonehead kids offering their opinions on youtube these days.
With the exception of the most well known wings stuff (and even they are nowhere near on par with his Beatles stuff of course) McCartney's solo work is pretty weak unfortunately. This song is so non-descriptive I forgot immediately as soon as it was finished.
@FriendlyShadow1 haha. I was referring to his assumed name - William Campbell assuming the name of Paul Mccartney, because Paul James Mccartney died in 1966.... I really believe that.
Actually - the title has nothing to do with the artist's discography. It is in fact a very obscure reference to PID - if you look at the album cover (yes it was an album not CD back then), you see 2 SHADOWS - 1 on each side of Faul's head - an impossibility of 2 shadows - 1 on each side from just 1 man... but then of course we all know that the guy on the cover is in fact "McCartney II" - 1 shadow for the original the othe for Faul... Also check out "Nobody Knows" on this Album ;)...
@fanofprotopic "Actually,it was the third...McCartney,Ram and THEN McCartney II(which was called that as a 'part two',if you will,of the original 'McCartney' album)......Peace
@fanofprotopic "Actually,it was the third...McCartney,Ram and THEN McCartney II(which was called that as a 'part two',if you will,of the original 'McCartney' album).....(although Ram may be considered a Paul and Linda album...it's really just him with her singing backgrounds, like 'McCartney was...)
@fanofprotopic They were called McCartney I and II simply because Paul played all the intruments himself. Like, all we hear is McCartney. Has nothing to do whether Ram is considered a soloalbum or not. McCartney III is gonna be released this fall, also with Paul playing all the instruments.
(It's also been speculated that the title referred to the Lennon/McCartney creditation thing.)

@billywhitewolf Don't judge his solo work based on any songs from this album. Listen to Ram and McCartney 1 they are much better.

Ram is definitely a better record, but this one is a masterpiece in its own right despite being somewhat flawed.

Pretty good record seeing it was recorded in Paul's basement studio most songs r weird but some r good

Possibly the worst on the album, but it isn't terrible. I like everything except the lyrics.

I got the album and it is fantastic.

To Paul's credit, I only just became aware of this album and it's amazing. It is true that Paul was the experimental one out of him and John.
He was brave to do this and his solo output is pretty good actually.
itsthedubchimp 7 months ago 5
@itsthedubchimp Him and John both has their experimental moments -- this is a silly debate.
warmhurt 6 months ago
@warmhurt True actually. More credit to Paul is due. People hold an irrational dislike for his music at times.

this is the only self titled album of faul

@ilsy74 Actually McCartney II came, appropriately, after McCartney.

@ilsy74 Ah, I see. Well whoever the lookalike is, he's just as good as the dead one. :P I had always heard there were still a few who believed that.

Love the echo Paul puts on his vocals! Nice one Paul :-)

This sounds like it could have gone on "Venus & Mars."

Sounds like the Police.

@warmhurt
Yeah and recorded before they had recorded their first album. Sting said of McCartney "he's probably my biggest idol - muscially".

McCartney II is the SECOND, not third solo album by McCartney (hence the "II" in the title)
