hey blaine - thks for the vids - question - I have a 96 wildcat 700 EFI touring - was running good then started bogging out on top end when warm - now when warm also bogging out on low end - barely got it home today - anyways - couldn't find any specific stator videos for my 96 700 - but saw this one - my stator seems to have the three prong too - measures...
brown to green - 254 / black to green - 43 / brown to black - 296
@andrewjohncocks sleds starts fine - have installed new battery - goes like a bat out of hell when cold but then bogs after about 10 mins - with my readings is it safe to say I need a new stator
Your stator looks like the one in my video labeled "Arctic Cat Stator Testing triangle shaped 3 prong plug 580 EFI". I will change that title to early 1990's Battery EFI 580 and 700. Regardless, the ignition coils are the same and the specs are the same which should be 450 and 45. The general rule of thumb is that the low speed when measured cold should be higher than 430. Anything less than 400 and it is very highly suspect. With yours measuring 245, I can say without a doubt that it is bad.
i have a 98 PS 600EFI and i did this test, and from the green and black wires i get 50 ohms. but from the green and brown i cant get a reading. any idea why? the sled still runs fine.
50 ohms is high for the high speed coil (unless it was measured while still warm). If you did not get a reading from Brown to Green...then I don't know what to tell you other than possibly the stator coil is shorted out so bad that only upon pulling the recoil does it make enough voltage to arch and therefore make enough of a connection to create enough voltage to run. It sounds like your sled is running on borrowed time. What caused you to check it in the first place if it runs fine?
I have a 1999 ZL 600 EFI. I checked the stator Brown-green is 400ohms, brown-black is open (actually 32K ohm). Do you sell rebuilt ones, do I send you mine, how do I get in touch with you?
I have a 95 ext 580 efi the gr-brn is 333 gr-blk beeps and shows continuity br-blk is 362. died on the trail towed it out, dealer says $600.00 what should I do??
Blaine, Great videos, I appreciate it. On my 97 jag 440 f/c, I have an intermittent spark. Using a spark light, It will start and run fine. Agood spark can be seen in the light. It starts to warm up and then while increasing rpm the spark will completely vanish for a second or two and then come back. Never seems to be a weak spark. Also, the stator ohms out good hot and cold. Do you think coil or CDI box? Is there away to check the coil? The plug wires don't appear to be removable, nor the boots
Usually when it starts and reves up good and then it starts to spit and sputter as it warms up, it is a stator, plug wire connection or trigger/pulser coil. If the stator tests good both cold and warm then you're more than likely looking at a trigger issue or spark plug wire connection issue. The CDI and coils are the least likely to go bad.
Blaine, Is it possible for a cdi box to have compatible harnesses and connectorsbut not be the right box? I tried my cdi on another sled, the wires all connect properly but it gets no spark at all rather than the result on my sled which is runs ok until high rev. then the sparks is intermittent. i thought it would be a good way to test it. Can the Artic dealer test the stator out of the machine? the trigger coil is part of the stator assembly. Thanks
Yes, a CDI box can have the correct connectors but not be the right box. Add to that sometimes the Pt.# is rubbed off the box so you don't even know which box you even have on it. Some dealers might be able to test the stator but more than likely they are just going to measure the ohms when both cold and warm.
Thanks, ok, so in summary, the stator ohms ok hot and cold, the coil seems to work good in another sled, it looks like I should either buy another CDI box and hope that its the problem or pull the stator out and maybe have it tested or rewound. What would you do?
hey blaine, i have a 1997 yamaha yzf 600, im not getn no spark, i've changed everything but the motor.... cdi box, ignition coils, i just got my new stator, hopefully this works, my new stator has two connectors, one is three pins all white, and the other is two pin yellow n blue i think, the three pin goes to rectifier, how do i hook up the other two pin connector..help me please thank u......love ur vidz...
I'm not sure. Try to find another model like yours and see how that one is hooked up. I'd hate to tell you to "Try it this way" and have you blow up another eletrical part. Sometimes you can find on-line mirofishe to look at and it tells you where the wires go. Or sometimes you can call a dealership and they can look at the microfishe and tell you too.
Hi Blaine. Would you happen to have the resistance specs for a Yamaha ET250 or Bravo 250 stator? I have a '79 Enticer 250 and I'm troubleshooting the lack of spark. I've already ruled out a grounding problem. I'm thinking stator because they say a CDI box failure is less common than a stator failure.
The specs I give in the video are for the EFI. Actually the carb and EFI specs are the same (45 ohms & 450 ohms) for the 500, 600 and even the 580. The 2000 they went to a new stator where the specs are more like 16 ohms, 16 ohms adn 32 ohms in series. I don't rewind those "new style" stator as of now. The ZRT stator was mailed about 2 hours ago.
Hi Blaine I may have another stator for you. Are these specs you gave for this stator the same for a 1998 zr 600 efi I have a 2000 manual and the specs for 2000 are different. How are you doing on my ZRT stator Thanks Ray

does the stator need to be removed to test it? or can you test it in the sled? just want to be sure i test it properly.
jrgooler 1 month ago
The stator does NOT have to be removed to test properly. You're perfectly fine testing it while it is still in the sled.

The low side coil died. I can rewind it and offer a 2 year warranty.

@BlaineDP Thanks, on this model, i believe the trigger coil is under the flywheel.
is it actually attached to the stator or can it be replaced seperately?
woodeedog 1 year ago
Yes, the trigger is under the CDI, I believe it is part of the CDI and cannot be replaced separately.

It at least seems like through the testing you've done it potentially is a CDI/built in trigger issue.

Have any stators for a 98 zr600 efi ready to swap out? I'm just wondering if I can swap ones with you and the cash so I wont have too much down time.
