i remember the first time i heard this phony prank call ... i thought that it was the funniest thing ever. esp. since the callers have British accents and are being so (deservedly) rude and disrespectful to Prince Charles.
@reverendflash2 You make good points but you must remember that the howard stern show probably edited what was submitted, so some of tne inconsistencies can be explained by the howard stern show editing it as they please for maximum comic effect. The only way to prove if this was real or not would be to obtain a copy of the original show unedited.
People. For chrissakes, I'm a long-time devoted fan of Howard's, but Howard - like you - has been the actual victim of this prank.
The call NEVER HAPPENED.
It is, if you will, a PHONY phony phone call. Play it again - repeatedly, if necessary. Notice how Prince Charles and the radio host NEVER say anything specific with regards to the 'caller''s comments.
This is real folks. Any Howard Stern fan worth his salt could tell you that.

This is the one and only first and best prank call mankind has ever recorded. This is the one and only Sire Bababooey.
Its featured in the Howard Stern show, this does not mean its created by him. Its actually his number 1 out of 25, all time.

MY COMMENT Part VI:
....but is just employing an effect used for synthesizing the
sound of someone talking on the phone.
So, please everybody. STOP helping Howard and his fans to embarrass their gullible selves further. Spread the word that the Prince Charles
prank call is, in fact, one of the biggest urban myths in Howard Stern history.

MY COMMENT PART V:
....but a phrase almost used exclusively in Australia, indicating that the caller was
probably not even in the BBC's listening audience but instead a tape-editing prankster from down under. (He likely did not hear the show
online, as the BBC was not available on the internet until 1996 and this phone call had to have been made before Princess Diana's death in
1997.) It even sounds like the caller's voice isn't from an actual phone call....

MY COMMENT Part IV:
He would have either known what was up sooner, or would have at least apologized to the audience. There is also NOTHING
available on the internet that I can find that documents that horrible time when the Prince of Wales was publicly humiliated by the Captain
Janks of the UK, something that certainly wouldn't have gone unnoticed if it ever really happened. Furthermore, the expression "stick your
head up a dead bear's bum" is not just a random insult....

MY COMMENT PART III
...and then even a third
call from Rita in Liverpool (after the recording ends). You will also note that Prince Charles and the radio host - actually, the BBC's
Jonathan Dimbleby - only react to the caller's odd comments with confused befuddlement, like something right out of a Monty Python sketch.
Meanwhile, Dimbleby is no dim bulb. He's a college graduate with decades of experience in British media, serving as a radio host, TV host,
and author.

MY COMMENT Part II:
In fact, the longest string of dialogue to not come from the caller is when
Prince Charles is heard saying something generally disapproving about 'that sort of question'. They were obviously just little random bits
of generic dialogue that were spliced together. Also, please note that the host is heard at the beginning saying that they only have time
to 'squeeze in' one more phone call. And yet, he proceeds to take a second call (the same caller, amazingly again....
