  • here's an obvious statement, elliott writes the most effective songs

  • Is the microphone ran through an autotune or is it just bad quality?

  • @MrTommyTinkles the weird quality comes from the fishman pickups he uses... also i think some of the strings were a little out of tune. but i heard while recording basement he would tune some strings a little sharp to get a stomach wrenching sound out of the boy

  • many thanks elliott

  • He makes the saddest words so beautiful..

  • i'm surprised i just found this for the first time today. great song, even better artist. probably the only musician that i realistically imagine myself still listening to in 25-30 years.

    thanks for the upload.

  • if there is good way for someone to make you be sad, this is it

  • I've always loved the chord that Elliott uses. This is a great song.

  • well is this is a pilot well Vh-1 like everyone know with all the shitty reality shows this is one of the bigger FAIL ever

  • I have no idea what you're talking about.

  • greatest of all time

  • his guitar sounds great. sonic genius that poor kid was..

  • he changed up the lyrics for tv.

  • Actually those are the lyrics from the Heatmiser days.

  • oh dang i hadn't realized. i just thought he changed the wording for tv purposes

  • It's like every song is a stroke of genius again and again. Not to mention a flawless performance.

  • Thanks for posting this. From the first time I heard this tune, which was quite recently,(I'm a little late to the Elliott Smith party I'm afraid) I've loved it. I'd love it if you did a cover. I loved your Sparklehorse cover and I learned how to play it from watching you do it. Could use your help figuring this one out as well.

  • what if god walked the streets in a regular body...he would be elliott smith

  • This makes my heart ache and smile all at once. Really wish he were still here.

  • Does anyone know definitively if this is in "Open C"? Or his usual, full step down? Or standard tuning??

  • open C, 100%

  • I love this song. I really like the Heatmiser version, too, unlike most of the songs that Elliott did with them and then re-did solo.

  • I love this man, if my soul could sing this is what I'd hear.

  • I lust this guy!

  • Perfect........

  • one of the of the freshest breaths america has seen in years. bold statements, but very true

  • Comment removed

  • -.^ you met elliott?

  • I fucking love this guy!

  • I love this guy !

  • i like this guy!

  • A life cut too short...but what magnificent art. His music lives on, within us. Lovely, touching...but is the low E string flat? O, who cares...see you later...Peace, Out, S

  • this makes me so sad.

  • dont be. :p

  • wow...this is a...wow...

  • i miss him...i wish he was still here...he was one of the most amazing artists of all time..his music was so beautiful...

  • Nice upload.

  • let me show you how much i careeeee

    see you later!

    amazing elliott :]

  • i love this taping of this song...

  • man i just hope Elliott great music isnt abused by stupid people!.

  • Elliott SMith is absolutly amazing!

  • The Guitar and Vocals are absolutely perfect on this... my favorite version of this song and possibly my favorite live elliott performance.

  • elliott was at his best in 2000

  • i think that is a guitar, it appears to be made of wood and have 7-8 strings.

  • ah yes the guitar, part of the family of objects know as instruments. yus, yus, i do believe you are correct sir...

  • If you listen closely, the "guitar" also produces some sort of sounds. I know because I have heard many sounds before, so I am an expert on sounds.

  • Elliott has quite a penchant for producing sweet sounds from this "guitar," or so I would assume this is the prefered nomenclature. Alas I must concede my knowledge of sounds pales in comparison to Goylesk, the expert on sounds.

  • hahaha

  • certainly

  • I hear a "guitar" is similar to a "piano," and some even say it is similar to a "trumpet," in that they all make sound. I don't know if that is true though, its just what my friend said.

  • 6-string guitars have 6 strings

  • not always

on my six string guitar I broke a string so now it has 5 strings but it's still a six string guitar

    burn!

  • It is a six stringed guitar...sorry to burst your bubble.

  • This song is great. I prefer it in open C tuning though. The G to C chords remind me of Belle & Sebastien's "If She Wants Me". Worth checking out.

  • This is in open C tuning.

  • i listen to pull hair rub eye almost every day. i have it in reverse and fowards. if youve never herd it fowards you should let me email it to you. the lyrics are beautiful and amazing

  • i would love to hear it!!!!

    thank you thank you...

  • as would i! can i get in on this??

  • RIP Steven Elliott Smith hands down the best balladeer of our time

  • never seen him play that guitar

  • i always see him with the trusty yamaha.

  • that isnt his yamaha , its something else.. any idea?

  • i can't see what the headstock says, but it looks like a slope-shoulder epiphone.

  • looks like a gibson j-45 to me

  • yeah, definitely looks like a j45. doesnt sound so great though (could be how it was mic'd maybe).. but also the headstock doesnt really strike me as gibson.. but yeah def. a j-45ish body.. also my original point was that i had never seen him play this guitar.. i've seen him play another proper mid 60s j-45, but never this one...

  • yeah the headstock looks off like not too sure, right about the sound too, alot of fret buzz .. but deffo a j45 shape

  • this song is tuned down really low, so hence the fret buzz...and it sounds like it has a pickup, not a mic. but thats just me

  • love him

  • damn, he is stunning. love the little smurk he gives at the end there. it really does hurt to know i'll never get to see him live or hear new stuff.

  • i know, totally cute.

  • totally, i feel the same, it actually hurts.

love the little laugh he gives in the other say yes

  • Amazing.

  • the kights went out in music when elliott died....

  • and ruined your spelling...

  • Hahaha.

  • I miss Elliott...everytime I hear him, I wish there was more to come.

  • This song was originally released on the Heatmiser album "Mic City Sons." For those of you who have never heard the band or didn't know that Elliot was in the band, do yourself a favor and go buy their albums! They are excellent. "Mic City Sons" is a masterpiece, which also included the work of Neil Gust(vocals/guitars), Sam Coomes(Bass), and Tony Lash(drums). Most people from Portland still mourn the loss of this excellent band!

  • my fav lyracist/singer/song writer of all time. i love you elliott. oh ya did i mention that he could play guitar and piano like a god?

  • he could also play the drums, and bass etc, i believe he played all the insturments in his recordings..easily the most underrated musician of the 90's and early 2000...god i wish he was still here

  • yeah dood, he played everything. really amazing

  • The albums name is New Moon, not 'Full Moon'. It was released in the States on 8th May. Go to KRS to order it.

  • this is on the new Full Moon album.. wish he was still around so badly

  • oh god.. yes..

  • Thank you!

  • I had not heard this sing before. It was great! Thanks.

  • love both of them whole heartly

  • very nice!
