through the illusions tour most of his solos were improvised not because he wanted them to sound different it was just because he was smashed by the time they went on stage.

Slash never played the same solo twice, even when sober.. There's probably a few notable exceptions, such as Estranged... Even the final solo in November Rain was played differently each and every time (you have to be deaf not to hear it) but obviously he stuck to the main theme, like he always do. Playing the same song the same fucking way for a whole world tour is going to bore you to death before you've finished the second concert of that tour :P
