I think WWI produced the "traumatic stress" that led to the barbarities of WWII. It affected all the people of the world. Surely some became more religious but others; I think many of those who believed in a kind God and a bright future, lost that faith. I am lucky enough not to have lost it. Perhaps the influence of something in the voices of these men? The spirit of a free and happy life will not be conquered. No need to slay the neighbors to get there. :)
When I served as Intelligence Operations Officer of the 4th US Armored Division in Goeppingen, Germany I was extremely unprepared for the possibility of a war against Russia. Though my past history, including a narrow escape from my home town of Breslau (now Wroclaw), I had not yet come to grips to the foolishness of our small and fragile planet, where "great" nations conquer their weaker counterparts, in the hope that "peace" will eventually prevail.

All the people of the earth are Gods people. This is a request from them to save them from their own political leadership. :)

"O Lord Save Thy People". More recognized from the 1812 Overture. Tchaikovsky actually borrowed the opening from this church Troparion.
