I bet they had no idea what he was talking about, but for being put in an abnormal position it seems to me that Frank pulled off a great "normal" stance on the question.
i think franks just trying to say no one wants to see him in his pojamas sat on his sofa(n0 1)chillin, he,s a performer showing his media face. frank just likes to tell it how it is.sorry liked...RIP one of a kind
I love Frank Zappa... his music, his attitude, his words... but surely Frank agreed to do this interview? If he thinks that being interviewed is abnormal... why did he agree to be interwied? Anyway... the interviewer was a "polite dumb ass" ...
That's one of the things I loved about Zappa. You present him with mediocrity in any form (the redundant and formulated interview questions in this case) and he will put you in your place without you even realizing it just happened. RIP Frank
GAAARRRGGH How embarrassing. I saw Zappa 6 times in the uk and never realised what stupid interviews he had to go through when he came here, and Peter Sissons is normally quite a sensible interviewer. How are you supposed to take an interviewer seriously who is basically asking "are you a phoney or not"? How rude! No wonder Zappa said in his autobio that he took a poor view of the English media, even worse than other countries.
I remember this piece to camera at the time, and Peter Sissons reaction at the end.(Sissons was in the same classes as John Lennon as a schoolboy) But I always remember Zappa referring to being a plumber as a metaphor. Where has my memory and the plumber gone!?
Typical interview with Frank - asked stupid and meaningless questions. Almost every interview I see with Frank I shudder at the moronic questions they ask him. He sums it up perfectly at the end "...being interviewed is one of the most abnormal things that you can do to somebody..."
man, that studio reporter rolling his eyes at the two very last seconds made me laugh; what a bag o' douche. "...on a more SERIOUS note" ...total douche.
Hehehe, well, maybe a more suitable ending would be right after he says "two steps removed from the inquisition", having the spanish inqusition drop by.
Why is it that TV interviewers have forgotten the ast of asking questions that get useful answers. If the "interviewer" had asked the right questions, we would have heard 3 seconds of questions and 1 minute 25 seconds of Zappa.
Throughout his life, Zappa eschewed illegal drugs and alcohol, choosing to only consume a steady diet of coffee and cigarettes. He preferred a clear mind to induced psychedelia, and often criticized the drug culture of the 60s. I highly (haha) recommend you check out my favorite album of his, We're Only In It For the Money, for a fantastic lampooning of the counter culture.
sweet; i love it bc using language to your advantage is key; everything is about how you frame it. He was probably wrong but the words he used were key. think about it and your dreams will be fulfilled
Well that settles that then. . .
