far as fort sumpter goes we repeadedly asked the foreign military forces to leave politely. even gave em over 3 months to do so which i think is much more than generous. not to mention the only death in that battle was a southern horse. what would you do if there were foreign forces within your borders who refused to leave? would evictin them make you a tyrant?

Don't dismiss the Yankees as a bunch of English Elites. Theres a old saying that the one who won the Civil war was the one with the Most IRish. Another little known fact, most of Appalachian Mountainmen fought for the North/Union.

don't discount how english the csa was. all of the most secessionist areas were the richest coastal settlements established by anglican royalists which had disfranchised & persecuted appalachian presbyterians since day one. the scotch-irish were a breeding race but so were the anglicans who were at least as numerically strong in the late eighteenth century. it was only lincoln's militarism which brought in tenn, ga, nc, va, etc. they opposed both the secession and federal coersion to suppress it

Actually as a Nashvillian and proud southerner, I feel that I need to correct this. The flag of Nashville was changed to go into accordance with the Metropolitan Nashville-Davidson county governement in the late 60s, which the flag is just a blue background with the metro government seal in the middle. Just thought I'd point this out cause Nashville is still proud of it's southern heritage.

@RedShirtArmy what really got everyone ticked in GA was for the fact that the people did not have a say,mississippi they gave the choice to their people to vote on a new flag and that idea was defeated, no doubt that if we in GA were able to vote on it the flag would not have changed.i had a teacher tell me that the flag was done to mock the civil rights movement back in the 50's.i told her i did not care its part of my heritage cause I grew up under that flag. so sunny lied and we got screwed.
