Hi @0utdoorsurvival , there are many criteria for selection. For colour-blindness, the medical officers would have to look at it case by case, and determine if you are indeed partially colour blind. In the case of commandos, applicants must have no colour blindness. However, there are other vocations which you can apply for in the Army. If you're interested in joining the Army, maybe you could give our friendly recruitment officers a call at 1800-687-2769. :)

Come on people. Malaysian have more bragging rights for their army because they have more experience in real life combats than us. Like the real 'Black Hawk Down' combat. It is not just the US army that went in and save their own kind. Malaysian and Pakistan armies were involved too. Until Singapore sent in their best to serve in the real frontline firefights like in Afghanistan and make a front-page stories about it, no one will look up on our army.

Of course, they do not have any real life experience other than the live-firing trainings which is unrealistic to some extent. You cannot compare them to the Commando regulars who have signed on for life. They have done real-life missions and all these are highly confidential. For obvious reasons, they are not being interviewed.

For non-Singaporeans, these commandos are essentially conscripted and not full-time soldiers. They serve their time and train to meet what is required of them. In my opinion, i believe that this dedication is worthy of respect. Your full-time special forces either serve out of patriotic/personal interest, or need the job to bring the money home. Next time, try asking them to give up 2 years of their lives and serve in the army.

Commandos are about the attitude and character. Fitness is necessary but it's not the top-most priority. They are also chosen based on the computer test during the medical check-up. Those with above-average IQ and thinking are chosen.

Being a small country does not means it must be weak. Having an army and elite force creates a deterence to anyone or any country who has "funny ideas". Being a strong country does not depends solely on military strength, there are also economical strength and other areas involved. My country, Singapore, is small but she is not weak.

U sure?? Even kopassus haven't seen any action for a long time u kno, tho I believed kopassus have way better mentality than these guys, tho not as nicely equipped. These guys are still sent into the jungle with rifles and full gear, Kopassus is sent to the jungle with only survival knife and a bag of salt.

Well they're force to join military training, so compare to other's country commando which sign up for military and after years of training then only be chosen is much different.

a lot of u guys try to slate them and talk abt USMC green berets, but truth to be told most of u guys are just a bunch of wuss, knows nth abt special forces training (not to even mention US army) and who cant even make it through BMT. so i suggest, try passing ur ippt before u start slating anyone.

@cepomwa dude wtf. they are NSF, 19 years old, how fucking buff u want them to be in 1 year of training. size dosent mean anything. cdos are required to walk such long distances and go for missions after missions even the buffest guy will slim down.
Physical preparation u say? they have fucking red berets that means they walked 72km with full pack, IBA, and weapon. try doing that.

@pixma321 You mean the vocational assessment interview at hendon camp? They will ask if you are interested in joining commando, if yes, why are you interested. They might ask about your family background etc. You can also ask question regarding the commando training.

Commandos are about the attitude and character. Fitness is necessary but it's not the top-most priority. They are also chosen based on the computer test during the medical check-up. Those with above-average IQ and thinking are chosen.
If i could i'll share the grapes. That doesn't mean their sour.

@khairulridwan @silvercarcrash nope...they are far from commandos. for starters they don't fight as a det of 12 and neither do they speicialise in infiltraing behind enemy lines. they are just a better infantry. more of the CHIONG AH! style of fighting. and they don't repel from 1000feet i'm sure. same jungle training? i don't think so. highly doubt it. they are second place at most. quite evenly paid wad.

i was in the Republic of Korea Navy Underwater Demolition Team back in the 90s..... similar to the navy divers in the singapore navy.
i haven't gon through the navy diver's training or this commando training, but i seriously believe that my udt training was tougher.
in the s'porean military, the instructors don't beat their soldiers

Being a small country does not means it must be weak. Having an army and elite force creates a deterence to anyone or any country who has "funny ideas". Being a strong country does not depends solely on military strength, there are also economical strength and other areas involved. My country, Singapore, is small but she is not weak.

@ranger0504 well , in other countries , joining the army is not compulsory , and they have more human rights than we do , if a man does not wish to go to the army in the US, the army would not force him in any way, thats why singapore's forces are quite comparable to other countries.
