@kasey1311 In Virginia, according to the Virginia department of fire programs you have to be 16, with parental consent. I had my firefighter I, firefighter II, and EMT-Basic all before I turned 18.
@REDskins4life3125 ok cause in pa in order to take ff1 and ff2 u have to have a live burn and hazmat ops before u take those classes andt the burn u have to be 18 so yea but i guess virginia does things different
Are there pre-requisite classes to the live burn? Because in VA our live burn was a test of our Firefighter 1 skills, and idk how you would be able to operate safely in structural fire (even if it is a training fire) without the basics of firefighter 1
@REDskins4life3125 we have whats called essentials to firefighting class which is basically a little less intense FF1 program. but now they change the class to a new program which you recieve like 3 classes in one so yes there is a pre-requisite class
@kasey1311 before FF1 we had a program called essentials before FF1, u take that class first and then hazmat then your burn and then u can take FF1 in pa
As a Junior Firefighter you can do everything a regular firefighter does. The only thing you cant do, Untill you achieve Firefighter 1, is enter into an IDLH atmosphere
Immediately Dangerous to Life and Health. So basically you can't go into a burning house, or do things that could seriously harm you. But you can do alot of basics. Like set ladders, or other things around those lines
haha ahh i remember the first time i rolled up a hose that was fun about 100 yards of pure 2 1/2 inch line and just me... good times. i love being a Jr.
Things like that. Roll hoses, clean trucks, i get to assist on medical calls and things. Not too much work at fires but i have been told i'll get to put out grass fires in the near future. Its great i love doing it
Future whackers...

Its not that bad. You can take FF1 when you turn 16 and just being on the fire ground will help you learn alot

where the hell are the SCBAs?
they were invented for a reason
always wear FULL PPE when fighting any fire large or small, dont expose your lungs to that stuff.
squrt29batt12 4 years ago
well the reason is youth usually don't put out the fire, i think...
